The 'why would I want an omelette for dinner' BNE-PER

Takes all types :) I don't have a problem having an omelette for dinner, though what you got looks a little pared back for my liking - I think it needs a bit of bulking out (but might be a figment of the photo).

Think of an omelette like an egg crepe basically. Japanese omurice is a delicious dish.

Now THAT would be fabulous to get on a plane.

18:30 departure

This was a "refreshment" flight. The only meal choice was an Asian beef noodle salad with mushrooms. The dessert was some sort of donut ball with jam.

I found it very nice, although it was a bit of a rush to finish eating. The flight was so short that the cabin crew had to start preparing for landing as soon as I got my meal. I was only the 4th passenger in J to be served.

I was once told by a FA that they call the CBR-SYD sectors the indigestion flights :).

Sometimes unnecessarily so given I've occasionally had everything but drinks taken away a good 5 minutes before the "cabin crew prepare the cabin for landing" message.

Seeing them feed 20 J pax in the 737-400 days was quite a sight. I used to do the sector fairly regularly in J (back when it was only about $50 more than flex Y so I was allowed to book it for work).

One FA on a longer flight - might have been BNE-MEL - said to me as I was wolfing down my meal by force of habit "you fly the CBR-SYD route a lot don't you?"

I'd be happy with a cheese plate or a gourmet sandwich on that flight, with a glass of wine or a beer.

Way too quick a flight. I don't envy the FAs having to work this route, serving some 180 passengers within less than half an hour. Had the flight time been any shorter, there would likely be no service, or a single drink run.

Some intra-Euro flights are that length, though sometimes the food service consists of all-disposable elements (e.g. completely disposable plastic trays), or basically lots of small canape stuff. Also, many FAs don't finish food service procedures until about 5 minutes before touch down, if that.

I was on an ADL-MEL flight in row 4 on Saturday so I could see the entire J service. One woman in row 3 hadn't even finished her dessert before the FA took it away because it was close to landing. This was on a 56-minute flight too. I have always found QF to be very slow on the J service compared to VA, probably because there are an extra four seats.
I was allowed to hold my 2nd can of beer for landing but they obviously took the cup and paper napkin away.

Yes on ADL-MEL (and even MEL-SYD) if you're not in row 1 or 2 it's a very rushed experience in J on a 737. For some reason it takes them a good 20 minutes after take-off to begin the service.

walk in the park! In ye olde days they'd feed 28+ F class CBR-SYD with a full hot breakfast and drinks.
... or dinner.

I remember the days of the coverta seats with first two rows dedicated F and the next 5 convertible between J and Y.

Rows 4-8 were good as they had decent pitch with fold out footrests attached to the seat in front.

Mind describing how that worked?

Did they have more FAs working the cabin than now?

Did they serve all 150 pax the same way (well, at least a hot breakfast with drinks, not necessarily the same quality)?

At least.
The last four times, the service didn't start until closer to 30 minutes.

Yes, I've tried to avoid row 3 on short flights, but when you have no status, it's actually impossible.

Just need to monitor seat availability. I have often been able to get row 2 as a NB and actually got 1A BNE-MEL in a full J cabin last month.

Oh I check, trust me. But oh well, at least when I'm in J and rushing to eat in the time allotted, it's still not whY. ;)

It's crazy really, unless you're WP1 you can't get row 1 at time of booking and what I see is that most often row 1 is occupied by NBs who upgraded in the QP.

On Tuesday we were served the S&S Sav blanc for the first time ever.Virtually always a chardy on our flights in J and mrsdrron wont drink it.often asks if there is a Sav blanc in Y-often gets one of those little bottles.Happens on International sectors as well.

ADL-MEL is one of the tougher ones as it's almost always <1 hour. I think the quickest I have had is 53min
usually I just have a glass of wine or similar rather than worry about a meal (which means those behind get served a little quicker too!)

this is why they have such a cut down service on CBR-MEL/SYD too due to the short flight times. it is a shame given it's CBR and you'd think more effort would go in, but they are VERY short.

I remember back 25ish years ago doing an AN F (3 class!) MEL-CBR in the 727 with a whole afternoon tea service which was something else. ah, the good old days :)
