Qantas Business Class meals & menus

QF836 BNE-DRW 01/09/16

Choice of:
- Lamb and feta meatballs with pilaf rice, green beans and a garlic and herb sauce
- Traditional caesar salad

IMG_3828.jpg

I was quite impressed with the meatballs. Some sort of blackberry ice cream stick on offer for desert. Pecan pie on the tray.

Turns out that this was some back-up catering and the lunch offering should have been more extensive (according to the CSM) as our original aircraft went technical just before boarding and the original catering had already been loaded on that.

QF843 DRW-SYD 02/09/16

Choice of:
- Braised beef with potato gratin
- Turkey couscous salad

Thoroughly enjoyed the beef. Perfectly cooked (as were the potatoes). Service was a bit lacking this flight (compared to the last one).

QF862 SYD-OOL Nasi Goreng(with egg) - also offered the next day on QF447 SYD-MEL (must have been the weekend catering special out of SYD :) ). Wine was the bloody Shaw & Smith which I turned my nose up at :D

I would be absolutely thrilled to be offered nasi goreng with fried egg on a flight. Was it good?

yes it was pretty good.

I had to laugh a little bit when the bogans in row 1 (they were the sort every 2nd word started with F, feet on the bulkhead, Bernie Tomic clones), when offered the meal choices asked "What's that?" :p

Slightly OT, but we don't know how good we have it in Australia. This was a J meal MAD-BCN on IB (Iberia) today. Woeful.

...

If it's any consolation, MAD-BCN is a mere 300 miles. That's shorter than BNE-SYD, or about double SYD-CBR.

That said, yes we are spoilt, even if it is a case of that rather banal cheese box.

Is there much difference in domestic J catering between flights marked as "Dinner" vs "Refreshments" on SYD-BNE and SYD-MEL sectors?

I have a flight coming up which I want to request an upgrade, but was wondering if I should change to a flight which departs 30 minutes earlier but is marked as "Dinner" instead of "Refreshments".

Refreshment is usually a soup or cheese box for the late refreshment flights; dinner will be a proper meal.

Nasi Goreng looks good.

I wish they would get rid of that Shaw & Smith. It was fairly ordinary the first time I tried it but I swear QF must have bought the entire output of the winery and I'm well and truly over it. There are other white wine grapes besides Sav Blanc you know!

Opusman you remind me! Recent trip to OOL from MEL via Sydney they had Shaw Smith Sauvignon Blanc on 3 out of my 4 flights. It was both acidic and spritzy. :(
CSM on one flight agreed with me, but another of her crew loves it. I know it takes all tastes, but I think its a dreadful wine. Reminds me I was going to give feedback to Qantas and forgot.

I looking at one of Lucky/OMAAT's flight reviews (Fiji I think?) and had a chuckle when I saw the dreaded Shaw Smith on the carte des vins.

Hear hear!

One of the more overrated Aussie whites. Looks like JL bought some too as it's offered in their NRT F lounge.

I'm not a fan of Sav Blanc but unfortunately it's very popular in Australia so it make sense QF will offer it when there is only one white choice.
