QF 19 SYD MNL J today. i.e. on board
Salad of buffalo mozzarella with artichokes, broad beans , grapefruit and almonds.
Absolutely superb. Best starter I have had in ages. And that includes on the ground!IMG-20240514-WA0008.jpeg
Lively dressing coupled with ruby red grapefruit really spiked the taste buds.

Interesting... or maybe not so much... that one of the most delightful entrees is also one of the simplest.

If anyone didn't know better, they'd see "salad, yeah pass".

Then again, I also like buffalo mozzarella 🙂 Unsure what the other options available would be, but if it were between this or soup, it'd be this.

Perth-Adelaide early afternoon flight:

As always, pizza in the Perth lounge was awesome so I arrived for my flight pre-stuffed already :p Service started with a package of nuts and drink of choice so I treated myself to a lovely Bloody Mary. Very much appreciate this pre-service on the Perth routes.

Late lunch was served shortly after with a choice of Thai style pork curry, some fish dish and the usual chicken salad. I’m always up for pork though I was very doubtful about the “Thai style”. But to my surprise, it tasted much better than it looked and indeed had a taste remotely reminiscent of a green Thai curry, especially as the meat tasted like it was grilled on one of those street vendor carts which made for a bit of authenticity. I must also been lucky as there was LOTS of chille on the rice which at least added a bit of spice to the meal. Not remotely as much as I would like but not everyone would be keen of such a heat bomb so I understand. The salad had an extremely fishy tasting slice of salmon on it which I took off instantly but the salad itself was rather nice with some Chinese cabbage and a “Japanese” style sauce- a true meal of Asian ConFusion cuisine it was!

Crew was excellent and kept proactively refilling the lovely Riesling I had with the meal. About an hour prior to landing, the usual Maggie Beer ice cream was served and I finished off with a nice nip of Scotch. All in all, a very pleasant flight.

Adelaide- Sydney, late evening flight:

I missed proper dinner time by 5 minutes but must admit that at this stage I was well and truly bursting. Choice was the usual soup, salad or “Mediterranean vegetable pizza”. Luckily I had seen a picture of the latter on this always useful thread before as I would otherwise have stepped into this trap: I saw it served to someone across the aisle and it looked as non appetising as on here and way too carb-y. I decided for the cauliflower soup rather and speaking of carbs, I got it served with not one or two but three (!) slices of the bread which I didn’t touch. The soup itself was excellent with proper bulbs of charred cauliflower in the soup and some lovely almond flakes on top. Definitely hit the spot at this time of the day!

Am I the only one who thinks this is really light on for a meal. A 2 hour (?) flight and all you get is soup and some bread. No side salad, no dessert. Terrible.

That's pretty much standard on Qantas for "non mealtime" meals. I totally agree, not good enough and I personally hate the different levels of service at different times. As I've mentioned many times before, different people will be in different mind spaces regardless of time- especially when you come off an international connection.

But in this very case I was lucky as for me, that soup was just enough given I had plenty of lounge food and another flight straight before it.

Aside from the question of time of day, the 3 "options" - soup, salad, pizza, would together make an adequate meal. If you're after a snack one would be fine, but these are certainly not "meals" in isolation.

This was my seat on J yesterday SYD ADL when I got on. Pretty slack cleaning

I'm assuming this is a 737/717 seat? Would you believe that the seats on the new A220 are not cleaned properly regularly/between flights? Last time I was in an A220, there were chip crumbs on the seats and the drink placement thingy ... cleaning crew either do not get enough time or are not doing their job well.

Yes 737

Y seats are next level unclean! Been flying around a bit in the past 3 weeks on various airlines and can say, sadly, cleaning on QF ain't that great. Regardless of the port of departure (international or domestic). Y tray tables are sticky, the seat pocket has cookie crumbs. Someone left a tissue in the seat pocket, there were wet wipes in one instance. Oh, there were cheese and crackers, stuck to the floor, between the leg of the window seat and the side of the inside of the aircraft.

lovely Bloody Mary
Noiceeeee :D Love it when a BM is done right and done well.

The chili was the first thing that caught my eye when I saw your post 😍 Can't describe how a decent serving of chilli changes elevates the dish to the next level :D And I'd imagine the Riesling did some favours complimenting the chilli and curry flavours.

QF11 Tues 14/5

Aperitivo of almonds with the canned margarita. No Sky Spritz available.

View attachment IMG_4030.jpeg
Pumpkin soup with creme fraiche. The plant based dining option was the same soup but with croutons.
View attachment IMG_4031.jpeg
The chicken main option. Tasty. I wasn’t familiar with the dish & was expecting a breadt of chicken. I was pleasantly surprised.
View attachment IMG_4032.jpeg
Desert was chocolate or chocolate or cheese. This pudding or choc choc Pat & Stick’s ice cream. I’m not a huge chocolate fan & would have preferred a non- choc option. This was tasty.

We were served the most delicious meal on our short flight from Sydney to Gold Coast, Qantas in Feb. Unfortunately we didn't get time to finish it before the air steward whipped it away. Perhaps if he hadn't spent 10 minutes talking to his mate in the seat in front we would have had time to enjoy. He did graciously pour our wine into a plastic glass so we could finish that.

Thanks for posting. I have to say I hope that menu changes in July as it is not that inspiring for me.

QF71 PER - SIN today.

The Duval Leroy was chilled and bubbly. The Salmon was delicious but I sent back the tub of “dressing”. It had come straight out of the fridge and was just a pot of solid oil! The bun was warm and very good.

IMG_0505.jpeg

Poached barramundi was soft and well cooked, and I enjoyed the greens as well. The right level of bite. One of the FAs was eating the steak and said it was very good. I guess they can reheat it just enough from experience.

IMG_0508.jpeg

I had a good meal in the F lounge (moist poached chicken with a “Mexican” sauce) so that once QF1 takes off, I can decline any meal service and try to go to sleep straight away. The 5-6 hour layover is a killer. If there is a next time, I would fly QF9.

Does that menu not match the meals?
