Qantas Business Class meals & menus

QF655 SYD-PER

No photo sorry.

Choices were Smoked Salmon Salad, Beef with mushroom sauce and Garlic Chicken.

Stupidly I opted for the steak. It was as tough as old boots and I had to hack at the thing to get a bite. Poor excuse for a meal. The lounge offerings were not flash either. Interestingly, I had steak with Bearnaise sauce on an awards flight with China Airlines a day prior - it was delicious.

Flying Sydney to Denpasar (Bali) in a few weeks, any ideas of what may be on the menu?

No pics, but not the best experience on a wet-leased Alliance/QF CBR-BNE run last week.

What was an over $1,600 airfare in J, early afternoon departure and the only choice was a ham and cheese croissant (retail around $6 from my local bakery). Only 2 of the charcuterie plates loaded and both gone before even leaving row 1...

Now, I realise I don't fly CBR-BNE on an E-jet for the culinary experience, but it was pretty woeful none the less. Much better variety on the QFlink 717s when they were in service.

The VA J breakfast experience and offerings BNE-CBR was much better.

Aperitivo of almonds with the canned margarita. No Sky Spritz available.

Pumpkin soup with creme fraiche. The plant based dining option was the same soup but with croutons.

The chicken main option. Tasty. I wasn’t familiar with the dish & was expecting a breadt of chicken. I was pleasantly surprised.

Desert was chocolate or chocolate or cheese. This pudding or choc choc Pat & Stick’s ice cream. I’m not a huge chocolate fan & would have preferred a non- choc option. This was tasty.

Was the chicken dish spicy?

I had a morning flight yesterday from LHR to EDI with BA on a small Airbus in Club Europe. The flight was only 1 hour 25 mins. We were served breakfast. I am so sorry I did not take a photo, as it puts Qantas breakfast servings to shame!

My gluten free meal was a small yoghurt with strawberry purée, two poached eggs on a delicious Mexican bean stew, and a warm and delicious bread roll served with butter and a jar of jam. I also chose a glass of champagne, being glad my journey from Perth was nearly over.

I saw my neighbour’s charcuterie plate and it looked appetising.

Boy, did those FAs hustle!

Ohhh, BA have got menus back I see.
Didn’t have them on any of my recent flights but the food and service was absolutely top notch

Hi all,

Disappointing J dinner BNE-AKL on 18/5/24 (B737-800) - 3 choices available even in Row 3 (due to only 7 pax in J). I had the Teriyaki Fried Rice - very underwhelming - bread and butter and cheese good. Bar of chocolate for desert. Lounge options had been poor too so I was a bit peckish on arrival. Definitely expect better for a trans-tasman flight.

Return (19/5/24) AKL - BNE was on a A330-300 and the dinner was excellent. I had the option of a hot smoked salmon Thai noodle salad or a cheese and spinach pasta. I had the salad - absolutely delicious. Served with sourdough + butter, greek salad and dressing, cheese and crackers and a bar of chocolate. Usual drink choices. Salad and the cheese & crackers were delicious. One of the best J class meals I've had on a medium length flight.

Consistency from QF non-existant!

SYD MEL Sat evening QF491:

Choice of:
Rueben
Cheese plate
Mushroom soup

Choose the Rueben, was a bit soggy and not great - probably should have gone the cheese plate. Tea/coffee served on relatively short flight (not down back according to the announcements...)

SYD to OOL on a evening flight QF596 earlier this week.

Choices were:
Garlic chicken (with steamed veg and potatoes)
Minestrone soup
Cold smoked trout salad with vinaigrette (with egg).

I ended up going with the chicken (picture attached) as the trout salad was not available by the time the FA reached my row.
The meal was bit bland, and veg over-cooked and very mushy. Portion felt bit small also.

For desert we received an chocolate slice consisting of what looked like shortbread biscuits covered in chocolate (which was approx 2cm x 9cm in size) (picture attached) - tasted like they used cheap compound chocolate.

FA wasn't very engaging/friendly, with me asking for a tea seeming like an effort.
Front toilet for J passengers only was enforced.

Overall one of my least enjoyable experiences traveling J in a while, particularly as the hot food offerings in the SYD J lounge wasn't that great either (chicken curry (couldn't find the chicken)) and minestrone soup).

Am greatly appreciative of being able to travel in J occasionally, however Qantas need to step up their quality of food in J and the lounges.

QF474 Mel-Syd 24/5/24

Lamb salad with chick peas, feta and olives. Glass of cab sav with top ups. Passionfruit cheesecake. Nice meal. Great crew. Very enthusiastic and CSM clearly loved her job. Lamb was a nice backstrap that was cooked to medium. Pretty good for a 55 min flight on Friday night.

That lamb "salad" has more meat in it than most of the slop meat style dishes on offer.

Flew from PER to ADL at 6.15pm or so.

The next morning my parents flew from PER to SYD at 9am.

I was really surprised that my exact dinner menu was served as breakfast to my parents! Literally the exact same menu.

Terriyaki Chicken or Salad with rare roast beef or Paella with prawns and chorizo.

Who wants to eat food like that at 945/10am when they served it?! 😝

I was super impressed with Virgin’s offering ex ADL at a similar time of day of either eggs on toast or a compote of (I forget exactly) with berries - both very “breakfasty”.

Be curious to know what others have experienced and/or think of this 🤓

As an aside it has been years since I’ve flown transcon on QF in J - SYD to PER (they only loaded 12 meals for 12 pax and when they got to me in 3D they offered me beef or beef being the last two that were left). Curious to know: Is this std operating procedure to load 12 meals for 12 pax?

I have no status so had to preselect 3D and realised I would be last to pick.

At T-80 Expertflyer showed 1F available and 1A and C blocked but neither of these 3 seats became available at T-80 nor at OLCI.

These were all award seats so I was just very happy to be in J.

To each their own of course but I tend to find the breakfasts on planes to be the most underwhelming of the meals, so I’m always pleased to get an early lunch.

Makes me wonder if the FA combined the meat portion from another unclaimed serving!

9am-11.59am departures are a 'refreshment' service, which this departure (presumably the 9:05am) has just fallen into.

I can understand the menu options might not be what most would eat at 10am, but in Qantas' defence (someone pinch me) most people catching a flight after 9am will have already had breakfast too. It's a tricky one and I can see the argument both for and against.

The meal would have been served at about midday Sydney time, so if a passenger is trying to adjust to their destination timezone they may appreciate the non-breakfast service too.

QF103 SYD-HNL 24/5/25

Burrata for entree, snapper for main, chocolate mousse for dessert.

The burrata was great. The snapper a bit dry/overcooked, corn puree was delicious though. Chocolate mousse also delicious. Wine top ups could have been a bit more forthcoming. Bar service with a bag of nuts to get things started. Interestingly my partner received almonds in a small dish.

Scrambled eggs and potato rosti for breakfast. IMG_6590.jpegIMG_6591.jpegIMG_6592.jpegIMG_6593.jpegIMG_6594.jpeg

Pretty good flight overall.

SYD-AKL on QF145:

Flights over an hour or so already can’t be too good if on an old 737 but that Qantas has further downgraded their meal offerings post COVID is a real cough move in my eyes. You used to at least get a little glimpse of QF International when crossing the Tasman (especially if on an A330 or 787) but now it’s exactly the same Domestic globb you get on routes to Perth, plus proper champagne but minus the ice cream.

And by exactly, I unfortunately mean EXACTLY. Same meal choices as two weeks ago on ADL-PER, a lamb stew which I had not fancied too much, a chicken salad with Cesar dressing and some prawn dish. Went for the salad as I can’t eat seafood, well aware that there’s often a bit of anchovies in cesar salad but a small amount of fish is luckily okay usually. Not on Qantas- the cedar dressing tasted like straight from the ocean, not sure what they had in there but it was not just some crushed up anchovy fillet. Even my partner, who likes to eat seafood and had fully indulged in some S&P squid in the lounge earlier, said that the dressing was way too “fishy”. Totally idiotic to have to seafood options on one and the same flight. Meh. The salad got served with a side of salad that contained mostly pumpkin, Qantas’ latest obsession and way worse than meh 🤢

IMG_6357.jpeg

Champagne was Lallier which must be relatively recent as I had never seen it on Qantas before. It was also the only choice in the Flounge but I found it much tastier than some of the usual cheap ones they have recently, definitely beats Mumm or Pieper in my book. However, I was not the only one go liked it so they ran out barely mid way over the Tasman. Not got enough, Qantas! NZ based JetConnect crew was super attentive though, friendly, chit chatty and super apologetic about the champers. As ever so often, hard product meh, food bah but it’s the staff that bails Qantas out!
