now need to sign the card on the back same as other cash cards

That's strange - I got my Platinum Qantas Cash card today and there's no place for me to sign it on the MasterCard side of the card
Is it the combo QFF and Qantas Cash card you are talking about? - would a prepaid MasterCard need a signature on it?

It's right above where your name is.

Exact words - prepaid card not valid without authorised signature.....there's a strip where I assume you sign.

Thanks - gee I would have missed it if I hadn't asked - it wouldn't win any awards for design - as others have commented it's a very busy card with logos galore

Have to say I'm struggling to find a pen that will actually write onto that surface - don't know about others but it seems to be a real challenge to get something to "stick" to the surface!

WP partner received his today. If he decides not to activate the debit card, is it still his FF card or does he use the old one?

This is my question as well - Mr FM and I both received ours today - we didn't register for them and haven't decided whether to use them or not. We paid cash onto our 28 degrees card and then used it to withdraw cash in Hong Kong and Macau and that worked well with a great exchange rate - haven't had time to look at this one and see whether it is worth it or not - have put the huge amount of paper they came with in the "to be done when we come back from South Africa pile :) " So so we use our old Plat cards or these ones or maybe I just take both!

Agree about the 28 degree card. We did exactly the same in Singapore and Indonesia earlier this month.

The issue I see is whether the old card will work with the Q tag at domestic airports if this new card is supposed to take their place but doesn't get activated. If it is meant to replace it, then does this mean that it must be activated and if there are no deposits or debits made then will the maintenance fee automatically be deducted.

Hmm - good questions - I think I will just use my old one until they get clarified .....Domestically we tend to use online check in with the boarding pass sent to our phones, so don't use the card for check in really.

Not sure why the activation is anything to do with Q checkin, just like the old card it should work fine, regardless of whether the Mastercard is activated or not.

New card = old card with optional mastercard.

The Qantas Card comes to you ready to use as a Frequent Flyer membership card. For the first time, the new card also allows all Frequent Flyer members to access our industry leading Faster, Smarter Check-in.

However to start using the Qantas Cash™ facility, you need to apply online and complete an identification check at qantascash.com.

The way I read it: this card has two distinct functions:

1) QFF card. Should work exactly the same way as your old card. If you look at the barcodes on the back, they're the same (except on the new card it's actually a little "fatter" - just like me since I received the original!)

2) As a MC Pre-Paid card. In order to use as such, you must activate the pre-pay function.

Simple really - unless I've missed something bleedingly obvious!!

Regards,

BD

Thanks Red Roo and everyone. I just need to have all the answers as my partner doesn't read the instructions. ;)

Strange with Virgin they wanted me to do the 100 point check but with QANTAS they didn't ask me and just set up the account without asking for ID check, guess QANTAS trust me.

Given there is a thread about doing the check at the PO, maybe its further down the line, ie when you first put money in ?? Or maybe its like paypal where it kicks in after a certain $ value on transactions.

Also the site says Platinum prepaid MasterCard in the title bar, but guess it is like the Everyday rewards platinum MasterCard that doesn't have insurance or is it just that I am QANTAS platinum.

This is the thread, but I did my ID check online using my drivers license.

Sorry annoy that QF only accept driver licence in NSW and VIC for the activation of the card. I am in Adelaide so it is required to go to Post Office for ID check. Very inconvenience so I say good bye to this Qantas Cash !!!
