Qantas CL approached by VA

The standard public number is 13 13 13. But, yes, 131 131 is on the back of many cards.

The recorded voice for the former answers "Welcome to Qantas", the latter "Welcome to Qantas Frequent Flyer".

There's a different number on the back of my WP card, and starts with "Welcome to Qantas Platinum", but after that it seems to be routed to the same areas as both the above numbers.

I was under the impression that 13 13 13 is for QF sales with nothing to do with the QFF program (ie those who are not members) and that 131 131 is for the opposite.

I remember when I was a newbie and wanted to enquire regarding something to do with a booking I called the first number, then after 15 or so minutes still on hold I hung up, called the second and got through quite quickly. In any case most of the time a query would be related to QFF anyway so I ring that one from now on.

I was going from this that sam showed us earlier that lists Premium Service desk for CL, WP and SG.

131131 is the published QFF number, given its not open public holidays then the general number is being used now which can divert calls to QFF.

These days they route to the same place after the welcome.

i.e.

Enter QFF number, # then the following options (for both):

  1. New Bookings
  2. Flight arrival and departure info
  3. Existing bookings
  4. QFF

I think perhaps lines have been crossed? The image was promotional material for NGCI and thus services at the airport, but not phone services.

Who cares about phone numbers?

I'm more interested in the Virgin "Chairmans Lounge" equiv... sounds exciting! Thanks for sharing OP!

It is just as well that I dont qualify for either club as any club that would have me as a member would be,as Groucho Marx stated, not be worth belonging to.

Well when your in my position and as valuable to QF as I am then I don't think the rules apply to you ;) I know that sounds horrible but most CL's say that for two reasons. One if someone asks them about it they can just parrot that line. Two it makes it much more exclusive for them. Funny note in the CL box it has a "Policy" list and the first rule is that its non transferable :D Also in the CL box you get a little map with the locations of all the Chairmans Lounges. I felt like a pirate looking for treasure :D

It was a joke dude.

There's one operator who I have dealt with several times over the last few years who is a competent and professional as they come and often works weekends. I am always pleased when the 'phone is answered "Qantas Premium - W**** speaking". :D

For me (during the week), I always hope for Hercules. He's a champ.

At this stage I can't see what VA can offer CL members in the way of lounge offers. Sure there is the SYD refurb. but very little else is available.

Just what can VA offer to make it exclusive ?

DJ does have other areas that can become a lounge, the temporary lounge in BNE is a case in point, other airports would have similar space. Don't forget they also have non airport lounges!

Agree...but the cost would run into the millions and would take years to complete a viable network domestically.
I just don't see the financial effectiveness of this move.

I don't think it would take years at all, I would not be surprised if there is already a lot of work completed, while it may cost a lot, the perceived influence on corporate spend the targets have would offer a good return, you can imagine the FIFO bill for someone like Twiggy Forrest's company, or even the board of westfarmers!

If a lot of the work has been completed then that would explain why the OOL lounge has taken so long

Guys please just remember that they are considering it. It's not a sure thing. And as for AUSBT I have lost mounds of respect for them as they have written a story based on one anecdotal case. The fact that they are considering a program does not mean that it is necessarily going to happen.

Well we don't know if AustBT have used this story as it's sole source do we... I would imagine that the AustBT crew would have quite a network who can confirm or deny such rumours "off the record". Remember that heaps of stories start off as rumours... I don't believe that AustBT's editorial integrity should be put into question.
