I have just posted this so that we can get this most important and pressing issue over the 300 post mark, garnering the respect it deserves!!!

Dear oh dear.........

mmmmm as I sit at home in my QF J PJ's I am wondering what to wear today for my whY trip to LHR.:shock: (My first non business trip for seven years.)

I'm going to spend a good couple of hours in the F lounge at MEL today. I'll enjoy people watching and cataloging their dress sense!!!

I have just realised that I don't own thongs or a singlet.

I think I'll settle for Chinos, long sleeve collared shirt, blue socks and deck shoes. :p

Will I look out of place ordering the prawn linguini with a side of hot chips and wash them down with a shiraz? :):)

The interesting thing when going into Q Club is to watch the well-dressed and well-heeled go straight on at the top of the escalator ... into the Chairman's Club. Over the years I have been right behind sports celebs like The Shark and pollies like Kim Beazley and when I turn left, they go straight on and through the unmarked door.
They were dressed way, way better than me!
There is a theory that the better you dress, the better the chances of an upgrade. For my trip to LAX/JFK/SFO next month, I am considering wearing an opera cape and gloves -- and I am encouraging Mrs B to get the decolletage out there.

What an amazing can of worms the simple original post opened.Personally I really dont mind if people inappropriately dressed in the QP or elsewhere. But like JohnK I do take dress into account. If say I was thinking of changing accountants and a fellow turned up in his boardies I would think to myself -well he isn't concerned with my feelings with his dress, would he consider my feelings with his work.A tradie would not have to meet as high a standard-though those that drive like a lunatic on the roads with their names emblazoned on their vehicles woulkd not be considered with a similiar feeling on my part.
Just interesting for the Teva wearers-here in Coober Pedy they are worn by 2 groups-grey nomads and backpackers. Both groups certainly associated with the word casual, but smart?
To each his/her own.

Gee...bit of a temperature difference between Coober Pedy and Antartica.

Had to thaw out!;)
But even here when I went to slake my thirst I found higher standards than the QP

I think you will find the majoirty of people will cast judgement on someone's appearance when they do not know the person and they need to have personal dealings with them.

Also as you state if you want to be successful in business then first looks are very important and if your dress standards do not meet certain standards then that can be harmful to your business.

Would anyone go for a job interview in stubbies, singlet and thongs?

Would you send your child to a rundown day care centre where the carers wear stubbies, singlets and thongs and have visible tatoos and body piercings?

Would you go to a wedding in anything less than a suit? If you did it would need to be at least smart casual.

So why drop those dress standards when visiting lounges and travelling?

You were on a roll there John, I was nodding in agreement all the way .... and then my head paused when I saw your last bit:-

So why drop those dress standards when visiting lounges and travelling?

*shakes my head* I can't agree with you on that ;)

I am sick of slobs & yobbos..what bloody next....bare chests & board shorts?

Piss off & get back to cattle class where you belong!

Do you guys ever get even remotely dressed up for anything???....(& I'm talking casual dacks, shoes, socks & a polo shirt will do)..were not talking the Birdville Pub here, so get a bloody grip

I joined QC to get away from you lot, but sadly due to the way you yobbos treat it is slipping all round

Those same "slobs & yobbos" might have more smarts than to put their email address out there on the internet. Maybe a less confrontational attitude would go well for a first post?:)

I travel for leisure so I won't wear a suit to enter a QP, however, I like the restaurant rule. I'll always wear a shirt with a collar (polo shirt) and then depending on climate either nice jeans (read no holes) or dress shorts with smart casual shoes.

Despite this, whilst in the BNE QP today manged to see one gentleman in a hawaiian shirt and thongs  and also did see someone in a flannelette shirt

Dear oh dear, flannelette not only a fashion hazard, but a fire hazard as well!!

+1

And that, Status Seeker, is all I would ask. I REALLY do not think it is that hard!!!

UNLIKE some others.... I do not have a massive aversion to thongs. (feet)

BUT.... Not with board shorts etc.... I think Alanslegal pretty much has it right with what he describes as his usual attire with thongs in the lounge.

I personally do not wear them when flying... But NOR do I wear a suit!!

Why not run a poll on this subject of Q lounge dress standards, would make interesting stats.
