...and people who tuck their shirt into their jeans. ;)

Can I tuck my torn blue singlet into my adidas track suit (with the buttons down the side);)

I do however think that there should be a standard set and people should not want to look rough when out in public.

Chino's and polo I believe would be fine.

Why do people seem to assume that because something carries a hefty price tag or prestigious brand name that it automatically embodies good taste and fine quality?

I have a name for people who have this attitude. I call them "Peasants". I feel this pretty much sums them up. Growing up, my parents divorced early and we lived on welfare.

We were NEVER peasants though. When we went out we had to dress APPROPRIATELY! We had to use our manners and we had to show RESPECT for ALL people we came into contact with.

That's all I have ever instilled in my son. He has the tattoos and piercings that many of his generation do. He looks pretty mean and a bit angry really. He wears the expensive ripped jeans and designer tops that someone with his financial backing can afford to do.

BUT... He dresses appropriately for whatever activity he is undertaking. He would NOT ever turn up to the airport in anything less than smart casual. He can make his "statement" when he is at "Bang" or one of the multitude of nightclubs he and his friends frequent.

When he his travelling, dining, staying at hotels then he will wear appropriate clothing and act in an appropriate manner. If HE can do it.... Surely anyone can??

By wearing expensive ripped jeans, isn't your son a "peasant"?

***Read my entire post Russ***

Depends on where he chooses to wear them!! Perfectly acceptable to wear to "Bang", or a concert, or at McDonalds etc...

Totally inappropriate at Vue De Monde!

I believe a designer suit would be considered inappropriate at "Bang"

It's about wearing clothes "approriate" to where you happen to be.

Remember Russ... Even a "High Vis Vest" is approriate in a mine!!:)

Only the fat ones ;)

If you have even a small bulge / pot belly you should never tuck - leave out.

If you have abs - tuck away ;)
Well mine is more than a small bulge but mrsdrron wont let me leave home unless I am tucked in.

I did read your post. I was just trying to work out why it was relevant that his ripped jeans were expensive. That's when I saw the risk that your son might be a closet peasant.

If you want to talk appropriateness, does he remove his piercings before travelling or does he leave them in?

Haha :p Can we add Uggs to the ban list too :D

+1 on that one!

And, can I dare suggest, we add wellies i.e. gum boots for us in Oz - can you imagine the state of those feet after spending all day in summer cooped up in rubber boots!

My mention of them being expensive was as I was quoting "Blueflamenco". I don't know how to multi quote on here.

But feel free to read in the context of their post.

He doesn't remove his piercings prior to travel Russ....

However if you were offended by them I would have to ask you very kindly to remove your face from from my son's nipples and crutch as that is inappropriate!!

russ - doesn't that depend in significant part on where he has them? If under clothing, its a case of 'Don't know, don't care, don't Tell' until the metal scanners pick them up and he gets to display......

I got a confused look from my housemate when you made me literally laugh out loud then Reg :p

Hmmmnn... You just called me a peasant (with a capital P) for posing the question of why people automatically equate quality with price.

Yes... you truly were taught to use your manners and show respect to ALL people you came into contact with...
