Qantas Club Dress Standards...Stubbies, singlet and thongs....What the???

I must say I'm looking forward to the 1st of April. I predict the whole thing is going to be a huge farce, especially in QLD.
They tried to enforce similar dress code at the executive lounge in Hilton BNE once. It didn't take long until regular guests complained that it's unreasonable to ban people from wearing thongs in QLD and threatened to take their business somewhere else so the dress code was abolished soon after it was introduced.

Im just pleased the Americans don't read the posts here about "thongs" and judge us all ;-)

Surely bare hands are even worse, but why don't we make everyone wear gloves?

It's far more common to see folks washing their hands in public bathroom sinks, though i have seen people washing their feet. At any rate the accepted practice (or at least for most people.. or some.. or OK maybe a few :) ) is to wash one's hands during the day, hopefully several times (:) ).. it's less so for people (in general) to wash their feet.

Thus, in the context of a public place like the QC, you'd hope people's hands would, in general, be cleaner - of course we all know as soon as you touch a door handle or rail or something you're going to get re-contaminated, but I still think the point holds some validity

However like most of this thread I think this sub point is veering OT :)

OK, I started this thread after walking into the QP in BNE (not J Lounge as I was a SG at the time) to be greeted by 2" of "Builders Crack" located between a ratty pair of stubbies and a "wife beater" singlet. To top the ensemble off were a tired old pair of single pluggers. Surely it can be agreed that this is well outside any definition of "Smart Casual"?

Whether or not this rule should be in place is another issue. However given it isn't a public area surely the owner (QF) are allowed to set a standard and police it. Should they also police behaviour? Definitely, however this would require a much greater staff presence and up the cost of QC membership for those that pay.

FYI...
I'm also one that has frequented the PER QP in Hi Vis (@QF WP do you still have my old shirt?) many times between mid '11 to mid '13 as my role required me to take day trips or overnights into the Pilbara (numbering close to 100 of them)On nearly every occasion (I can think of one or two that I cut timings very fine) my routine would include a stop at the local pool in order to shower and change prior to heading to the airport.

Or the right type. :D

Actually, as ms TheRealTMA just noted, apart from thongs, we need to be cautious if we are suggesting that everyone must wear 'pants' for entry to lounges in Oz.

Loved that series, and much looking forward to series 3 of the U.S. Version which comes out next month. Though I think Frances Urquart was even more sinister than Frank Underwood.

The discussion re Stubbies, singlet and thongs is (or should be) in reference to the Qantas Club.

Yes agree. But FU lived up to his reputation in the US series. Kevin Spacey and Robin Right did the series proud.

Is there evidence to back this up? I'm struggling to see why bare feet are unhygienic, or what the difference is with having shoes on? Shoes have crevices on the bottom to hold dog poo (which you won't step in with bare feet), and the inside of shoes are a nice warm moist environment to breed all sorts of germs.

Once upon a time they did all wear gloves. ......, well at least those who would have frequented the Flounge
I still remember my mother wearing (long) gloves to go out somewhere formal, and to church (short) wearing a hat!! That looked like a pavlova.
I do own driving gloves ( somewhere ) for when I drive the MG. Even if my hands don't get cold

Well, there is a first.

After more than 800 posts, I have had some deleted.
Apologies to the Mods and the AFF community, if I contravened any written or unwritten rules. That was certainly not my intention.

Do deleted posts count toward your 1000 posts club membership ?

I FIFO to Karratha and there are some interesting units back a forward there.

I usually wear jeans and shoes.

I am also always in an exit row so if I have to get out I'd rather be wearing shoes.

Why are singlets so unhygienic? Isn't this more about the persons hygiene than the item of clothing they are wearing?

Something with bad hygiene is going to stink regardless...Are they going to ban women from wearing sleeveless garments?
