I can see some QC holders being annoyed if there is a J* lounge and they can not get access but it is ok in the reverese that you fly J* and can use a QP.

Depends if the QP is open when JQ departs, it's becoming common for this not to be so.

I just picked a random date and it would look like the J* lounge would be open for QF flights on the date.

I am talking about the QP, given the JQ lounge is closing I doubt the QP will be in existence for the first few months of the QF service while it's renovated.

Luckily the QP would be open for some of the major JQ flights, viz. international flights and flights around business times (ish). Whilst obviously not ideal, a handful of flights late in the night will not be covered, including two Trans-Tasman services.

That is assuming they will only open for Qantas flights.

There's another balance here in that once the JQ lounge turns into a QP, JQ pax won't be able to buy lounge entry any more. They will either need a QP subscription, a QP pass or need QFF status (SG or WP) to enter.

I've never been to the JQ lounge so I'm not sure how big it really is. I'm going to naively think that the boffins (*shrug*) have only budgeted the requirements of the QP for the 3 daily flights, which means no consideration of JQ flight traffic or arrivals access by WPs. Not to mention that since there is a fair spread of the flights, you might just get lazy staff at times (*big flight!* *departed* *twiddle fingers* *flight!* *departed* *twiddle fingers even longer* *last flight!* *thank God* *pack up*). At least with the VA lounge, the staff are kept busy all day due to VA's regular scheduled flights. Finally, I'm sure the QF boffins haven't quite fully acknowledged the possible depth of QFF elites or business travellers in QP and are underestimating the usage of the facility as such. It's not like golden triangle flights where at rush hour you can have scores of elites who use the lounge (now if only QF realised this and did something about BNE, though admittedly some of that complaining should be directed at the BAC and the government).

Overall, I'm not anticipating QF to bring out a spectacular lounge. I wouldn't even think there to be one palm tree or one surfboard there. :p Jokes aside, perhaps you'll have the benefit of new furniture (or newly upholstered), but don't expect new style. They recently "redid" the ASP QP (so I hear), so I wonder if they have new furniture and decor there. I know I've been in the DRW QP and that is pretty unexciting to say the very least: probably the low bar of QPs (not counting "regional" lounges) in the system.

I'm hoping there will be good internet, and a couple of showers! The latter should not be underestimated in OOL in the summer.

And J lounge? Not yet by long shot ("OOL gets a J lounge whilst we get shafted in PER?!" *cue similar in ADL* *cue mega riot*)

It will need to be a new style compared to what is there presently, having spent 3 hours in there last month I dont think capacity will be an issue, these pics sum it up nicely:

Although they do not feature the lovely laser printed A4 sheets stuck on various walls reminding patrons that alcohol must not go past that point, I do hope we see the same when it becomes a QP and spreads as a practice to the F lounges etc ;), not.

"No alcohol past this point"? What are those for?

I should've been clearer in that when I said "no new style", I was meaning nothing new compared to the style we are accustomed to with the current QPs in the system. I suppose it would be optimistic to hope for otherwise...

Thanks for the linked article - I do note that the article mentions no showers. That ain't good :( Ditto that to no printing service (hopefully QF will install a standard office multifunction that will allow printing).

You cannot take drinks into the movie section!

Not sure showers are needed, given the Gold Coast weather one is normally available on the walk to the carpark during summer.

Interesting. I wonder if QF will keep that movie section or just put a flat screen TV there, period.

If I could stand to be more facetious, I wonder if QF will keep the instant ramen on the buffet. :p

Ah, touche. ;) :D

therein lies the issue, good food and bar will be replaced with mediocre food and a late opening bar, it's a downgrade. But will be an upgrade in the air so long as its not raining.

Good food and bar, you need to get out more, party pies and cheap vino is not what I would call good food and drinks.

Last time I was there the Japanese selection was miles ahead of the party pies offered in QP's, and while the drink selection was a little limited, it was open from first flight, not that I drink in the morning, but it's better than waiting till 14:00 as I'm lead to believe these days.

In that sense, it'll be a downgrade. In many others I'm sure it'll be an upgrade.

I think you missed the point, a few fridays ago it was party pies that was all that was on offer at the JQ lounge!

If it ends up looking anything like the fairly new lounge in Cairns, then I'll be happy. Just ended up there for a few hours the other day and while selection of food and drinks was the usual, I was very impressed with both the airy layout and the friendly staff. Anything will be better than those annoying unskilled Virgin trainees just out of high school in my eyes.

I hope they get the design of the interior right, it'd be such a shame if they let it become something akin to the rest of the QP lounges. I guess you could argue that uniformity among the QP offerings is necessary. But I'd like to see a shake-up of QP lounges, they are hardly bastions of high design or aesthetic appeal. QF have some real competition from DJ/VA now. I personally think a Marc Newson-style overhaul is in order. But that's just me.

I spent this evening in the JQ Lounge at OOL - my first experience. Fortunately it will be a QF Lounge again when I return - I don't plan to experience that JQ Lounge again - it was truly abominable.

I wonder if they'll be styling it more as a regional QP... either way, will be good to see the finished product, though they need some intra-QLD flights for me to do that :p

I received an email from Jetstar cancelling my pre paid tickets to the JQ lounge in December because of the refurb. They are going to refund the money plus a voucher. Really think they should honour the booking though in the new Qantas lounge..was a bit of treat for my Mum as she had never been in a lounge before.

Would have been good, but might have set a precedence for other cities to offer low price lounge passes (on JQ to QP), completely overcrowding the lounges.

Maybe you'll be lucky enough to fly when there's an AFF member who can guest your mother into the lounge.
