Qantas Club Guest Dilemma

Rude and completely non-obliging generally seems to be an employment pre-requiste for BA staff.

In which case most staff I have come across have failed to meet the employment pre-requisites

My experience is that BA staff are typically v polite; it is hardly wrong if they follow rules regarding benefits

So as a very long-term QC member and a person who has put hundreds of thousands of dollars through Qantas and BA, I am expected to purchase an additional membership for the one time a year I take the kids on holidays overseas?

So far QC staff have "bent the rules" to allow the kids in and I suppose I shouldn't take it for granted, but BA have in effect continued the no-kids rule for families with only 1 Club member. And I certainly wouldn't say that BA staff excel in customer service. I had two very average flights between LHR and TLV this year - they seemed to use the worst crew and plane on the assumption that it may be blown out of the sky anyway!

And for cough's sake, my daughter had one apple juice, two biscuits, and sat playing with a train set for an hour! Would it have really killed them to let us in?

Yes Dave - they are the rules, but that doesn't make them reasonable.

Cheers,

AC

Whether it is once or 200 times is hardly the issue is it. For you , it may be one time that you wish to take extras, for other people it could be more often. Remember, also, as you point out, it is a QANTAS club membership you have purchased and not a BA one ( ok BA ones can't even be purchased anymore ) . I think that expecting a partner lounge to allow you to take in guests that they wouldn't allow their own Silver members to do, is unreasonable

When you renewed, you were aware of the 1 guest rule, so if it is an unreasonable rule, why renew?

Dave

If kids were totally banned from the lounges, you wouldn't hear me complaining.....

Dave, Dave, Dave ( ohh ... and Anna)

You are missing the point entirely.

My QC membership costs me $99 per year .... so there is absolutely no way I am not going to renew!

I just wonder what Qantas and BA expect their members to do when they travel with family. Now there are folks here who have kids and folks who don't, but the ones who have kids will understand that the one time you really need access to a quiet, well provided space is when the family is doing long-haul trips to and from the UK.

The 1 guest policy caters purely for couples, and I'm sure that is the deliberate intention (know your demographic).

IT JUST SEEMS PETTY AND INSULTING, OK!?!

If QF or BA put some reasonable limits (like the previous guest passes) or invoked some nominal charge for children/extra guests then I could understand their reasons and choose whether to pay or not.

But my choices currently are to take half my family into the lounge or none at all. I can just tell which option you two would prefer ......

Cheers,

AC

They do provide a facility for this, it is called a partner membership; I don't know what rate you would pay for it given your membership rate

This then allows both of you to enter and each take a guest . Low and behold 2 adults and 2 children validly in the lounge. If you are not prepared to pay for the partner membership then why should you get for free what others pay for?

Dave

I'm sure we're started to bore people with this, but just for your info .... 1 year Partner Membership = $385. Not something I would choose to fork out so that I could take my entire family into the lounges maybe once every two years. But of course that's me being unreasonable ....

Anyway, it's time I took this up officially with QC rather than ask for opinions on this site.

Cheers,

AC

That is exactly what I did for Mrs NM before we embarked on a 3 month RTW vacation. Twas money well spent in the end.

Of course another option is to reach Partner Gold FF status and that has the same affect and also works for non Qantas Club partnet lounges like CX, AY etc. Just does not help for US lounges, but they were not part of our itinerary.

It *should* work for US lounges - Gold and Platinum provide complimentary QC membership - the Qantas Club logo is on the back of the card. I have used my Gold card in US lounges. (Or is the Partner Gold card different to the normal Gold card?)

Or the same thing for 75 000 FF pts.

Yes, Dave, you are correct. The Partner Gold QF FF card looks no different to any other current Gold FF card and it includes the QC logo on the back. The card makes no reference to being "Partner" Gold.

That figure include the Joining fee. mrs serfty's renewal this year cost $215. It's quite possible that I will not need to pay this next year. ;)
