Still, not a lot of change there. SYD & BNE have not changed much at all.

I'd have thought the cheese would be the last thing need to change. What's wrong with a bit of mould?
Actually, MEL QP have gone away from that plasticy Brie/Camembert to alternating servings of a Matured Chedder and a Blue Vein; both quite reasonable quality. Also (IIRC), the patizzies and mini sausage rolls have been replaced with mini dim sims and curry puffs/spring rolls (pseudo fried).

Just to be serious here, for a moment, and to play devils advocate.

I wonder how well it would go down for QF to adopt the same on-board catering model as Vermin and DeathStar AT THE SAME TIME as substantially increasing the offerings in the QP?

Basically, telling the riff-raff that they will have to pay for meals on board, whilst giving those who fly a lot (and therefore get lounge access) the opportunity to have a reasonably substantial feed in the QP prior to the flight. Would cut down on wastage on-board, as once the meals are loaded onto a flight they are thrown away if not eaten.

Some problems would crop up, namely for the FF's who check-in when check-in is closing, and therefore do not have time to access the QP, but am open to suggestions.

Thoughts?

Dave

That is similar to what Air NZ introduced a few years ago. NO meals onboard, purchase or otherwise, admittedly short flights, and much improved food and drink in the Koru Club.

I find it works well. Fares came down. Those who travel frequently have the opportunity to get fed (by turning up early and using the lounge).

I agree, but after a few visits to AA Admirals Clubs, I realise just how lucky we are  :P

Exactly. AA offers trail mix, water, and coffee that has no right be called coffee.

It's still substantially better than what they serve onboard.

Coffee  more like muddy stream water.

Come, come now. Starchucks is sometimes better than other coffee in the LOTFAP. Not often, but sometimes  .

Yeah but look what you are comparing it with. Americans not exactly known as conoisseurs.

I knew I had read it before, but could not remember where it was applied.

I think it has merit, what does everybody else think?

BA have done it trans-Atlantic, in F and J, but for no other reason than that it allows extra sleeping time.

I wonder if this would fit in to the overall plan for all QF services which are NOT CityFlyer to become part of DeathStar.

(alright, I know this plan has not been announced, but we can all see it coming, Qantas Group domestic flights will be in three bands, CityFlyer, DeathStar and QantasLink).

So, we can possibly see some upgraded catering in the Qantas Club, to cater for those who fly a lot OR who do not fly enough to get it but want to pay for it. The rest will have to pay for it on-board.

Works for me, I mainly fly on CityFlyer services anyway, so I will still get my freebie drinks.

A double whopper meal with cheese at Burger King costs ~$7 if anyone does not like the Qantas Club Menu. Would also beat any meal you can buy on board airplane.

VS have something similar on some routes (eg JFK-LHR). Get a decent feed (as in restaurant quality sit-down meal) in the Clubhouse and, if you like, a snack on board else more sleep. Its a great system for those who have access to the Clubhouse.

I really don't know what you are all complaining about - the menu does change...

- the QFP recently changed the supplier of their pumpkin soup in CNS!!!

- the chicken strips sometimes come with SWEET CHILI CRUST!!!

- and just for variety - the bread rolls in TSV are the LARGE C RUSTY ONES rather than those small white fluff balls!!!

- and if you're lucky enough to go to the miniature lounges in places like ROK and MKY (great cos the bar fridge is always open so no worries about the 1pm drinking start) they have copious quantities of PLASTIC CHEESE AND CRACKERS and fruit cake!!!

- for a real treat go to DRW in the morning and you can order whatever you want to eat (cos the QFP is SHUT in morning hours so you'll be getting a feed in the cafe next door).

Seriously, though, after 13 domestic sectors in the last 4 weeks I'm really over the same old same old QFP fare and would love to see a change in menu!!!

Great idea to feed people up before the flight (like BA first lounges who offer freshly cooked to order fare such as bacon rolls and veg curry) and less on board

This has been done basically for the 'shorter' long haul flights, such as trans-Atlantic. For example, a red-eye JFK-LHR on BA leaving at 5pm takes about 7½ hours to arrive at LHR at 7am.

By the time a meal service would be complete it would eat up 1½ hours, whick, with being woken ¾ hour before arrival leave about 5 hours for sleep. Take the time for the tucker service out with pre-flight dining and you could get perhaps 6¼ hours sleep.

For the love of God, open the bar before 1pm! For the love of God!

1pm is far too late. Maybe 11am?

I flew QF81 from Adelaide on Monday, and the bar wasn't open, even though it was an international flight! (though got plenty on Board).

Most of the daytime departures out of Darwin leave before the bar opens (11-1ish) which is just the time you want to have a few drinks before a long flight.

Surely opening the bar 2 hours earlier during the day won't send them broke. Even if it's beers only - self serve. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!

p.s. I am not an alcoholic!

Is there some licensing reason for the 1 p.m. opening of the bar, or is it just because that is when QF feel is the right time?

Let's start a petition to get it open even earlier!

I will be in ADL on Sunday from 10am-12noon and meeting another AFF'er so we decided to meet in Cooper's Ale House at ADL airport rather than QP because of the 1pm rule!

Please tell me Cooper's Ale House is open early enough and serves real alcoholic beer.
