Qantas club upgrades

Actually, I thought this myself. I can't recall QP Life being that much.

I just searched through some old files and found a fax dated November 1999 when I joined my ex wife as Partner Life Membership and that cost $1850 with no joining fee.

I was incorrect with the amount I paid for my Life Members as mentioned in a previous thread. I was a member of the club for several years and have found the documents that confirm I joined as a Life Member in October 1999 and I paid $1500 (not $1100). Irrespective of whether I was a prev member or not, there was no joining fee with Life Membership so its a long way from $7.5K, but my membership was a promotional thing and I think it was half price at that time so it would have normally cost just over $3K.

ISTR, as a general rule of thumb that it was about the cost of 10 years of annual membership with no joining fee.

Well I am a life member for the qantas club, I brought my membership one year when I was travelling out of Australia when i got a complimentary visit, after my visit I enquired about joining. The decision was life time because of the food & novelty.
That's interesting reasons for joining QC. Yes, because the food offered back then was far better than the food in the outlets in the general areas of the airport, I can understand that reason. Novelty value? Was that really the reason...a purchased novelty item rarely continues to capture the imagination year after purchase...
At the time I had started my own business & was just starting to earn money so I thought i would treat myself & family (fingers crossed) for the rest of my life.
The life of the membership is also either your lifetime, or the lifetime of the Qantas Club offer.
I am only a bronze member which is ok but now they have taken away all the reasons I joined the club for, I can only desribe the feeling as being taken for a ride. Any ideas how to get my privileges back rather than feel like another sucker , Please help this has been nagging at me for some time now:(
The basis for your decision was based on a set of expectations that have been watered down over the intervening years because of changes made by QF. Other benefits have been added as well, do they play a part in your ongoing expectations about what you are receiving for your membership?

One would hope that QF will continue to see value in providing the service, thus there have been times where QF haven't seen value in continuing to provide certain services, thus they have been reduced. Getting services back to the "way they were" may be a pipe dream, given the QG goal of the holy grail, profit for shareholders.

Well all in all alot more feed back than was expected sounds like there are alot of QC supporters Good for you peoples. The $7500 thing for joining everyone has got me disbelieving what I remember ?
One thing is for sure the Qc back in the day when I joined 10-15 years ago is definitely no where close to the old service but hey I must concede where time is involved things get smaller & prices go up .So only if I had realised back then that the package that they were selling was going to be taken away once they had made there goals what ever they were,I would have probably ,no definitely left it to a once free pass visit
So be it life goes on

I don't think there's anything wrong with that. When flying, I wear whatever I'm most comfortable in. Screw what anyone else thinks.

That attitude is OK as long as you can follow it through to using mobile Ph. usage, loud music, swearing and anything else that can offend.
There are many forms of offensiveness, not just visual occurrences.

Two things,

Firstly I also fly in what ever I am most comfortable in, and that has included shorts and thongs...

Secondly, I agree, the QP has gone down hill in recent times in regards to the food on offer, and not been a big fan of cheese it oftan leaves me with nothing to eat at all. Thus I'll usually find the nearest hungry jacks or something like that for dinner and then make my way back to the club (sometimes with the HJ in tow)

The one exception I have found was TBIT at LAX earlier this year, where the food offering was excellent (fully cooked meals where available from the buffet)...

In any case the T&C's do specifically give them the right to remove or alter services at any time without notice, and alter the services only for specific locations...

$4,250 inc GST in 2006 when I looked at joining, then they took it away. Should have got life !! Doh!

I'm no member, although I can walk in and have done without showing anything more than a boarding pass.

Some lounge dragons do not read it properly, makes you feel devalued when you pay for it. They just pretend to see it an acknowledge. One of my friends is a FA and they said QC staff just look for "QC, QANTAS CLUB, SAPPHIRE OR EMERALD" printed for domestic. In INT they need to scan the BP.

Well theres some interesting feedback. The buy in option was not cheap around $7500.00 so I hardly think that qualifies for riff raff as some of you are so delicately putting it that has dropped the exclusivity.
Some of you sound like you have lost touch with reality ,maybe be being born with a silver spoon in your mouth does that.
The food was cooked bacon eggs for brekkie etc & other stuff that I vaguely remember to be a treat,(Its been so long ago ah memories) when you were at the airport,
I think also you could use lounges overseas I do remember using one in the Philippines ?
But all in all I am obvously the one who feels like the most hard done buy & it is not because of being ungrateful it is over the years they have taken away priveliges .
I would havet thought by paying life membership ($7500.00) I would have been automatically upgraded because of the extra effort put in for being a qantas customer

I know alot of riff raff with money!! no silver spoons on this site, just alot of experienced travellers. I was thinking life could be worse, you could have bought Golden Wing Life membership like I was thinking of doing.

SPRUCE :D

That's the problem with life membership, they are very indescript as to who's life the membership is for...

Well the golden wing life membership is still valid for the life of the member. Just that there isn't that many lounges available.....

I had Golden Wing Life Membership also, which is how I was offered the promotional price of $1500 into Life Membership at the QP, but alas only one membership left with the Ansett demise.

Dumb dumb question - but would it get you into other lounges (star alliance)

I wonder if theres some sort of contractual arrangement for instance

just a random thought ;)

I believe the answer is no...
Sometimes when airlines go under, other airlines step in and take over the FF program, but in Ansett's case no other airline or company did, therefore it made the points and lounge access agreements worthless.

Also when Ansett went under, it was deregistered from star alliance, which means that assuming golden wing still existed you wouldn't be able to gain access to other star alliance lounges anyway.

BTW One of the plans under Ansett MkII was to rejoin star alliance, but that obviously didn't happen...
