I have to say proper dress standards would be a start. I've been in there with parents in shorts and thongs with their children sreaming around.

Better Champaigne would be one more improvement.

Try PER. It's full of miners in hi-vis outfits.

As for the Champagne, you're not going to have a chance. The *cheapest* "real champagne" you're going to find is around $45 a bottle. They could use Chandon for a decent sparkling, but why would they? Even the J lounge has the same booze as the QP.

Think of what you'd pay for a glass of Champagne at an airport, and then imagine how much would get drunk in the QP if they put a decent bottle in. It is not cost justifiable.

I think this thread is interesting

It actually reminds me of the Virgin lounges, although I think its gone the other way

Breakfast there in Sydney about 6 months ago was continental breakfast + all the hot toast you could eat. And after smiling at the person serving she rustled up some bubbly along with the lattes she made us

Dinner is pretty basic but they do serve a hot soup/risotto in a crockpot

Its not fussy food, but its pretty good value. And its definetely improved since its become all inclusive.

Maybe you could see if thats more to your liking? :)

I dunno about shorts and thongs Mr Ed, but when they started letting horses in...:p:D

...
I don't believe (someone correct me if i'm wrong) that anytime access was ever part of the Paid Qantas Club offering. ...
Can't recall hot breakfasts.

I do know that anytime access was the go until the early 90's when it was changed to "you had to be travelling Qantas on the day" - which meant you could pop in either end of each segment; this was changed to departures sometime around 1997.

Back in the Mid 90's, the bars opened at 3pm on the east coast (and 2pm in QLD clubs during Daylight Saving).

Thanks for the clarification. Back in the 90's I was still a wee lad:)

When was Life QC membership $7500?? Must have been an age ago in another version of the program. The last price I remember seeing just before the Life option was withdrawn was about $4200

(Was looking longingly through the QC info thinking that I'd go for Life QC if I ever won Tatts - couldn't afford / justify it otherwise for my maximum of 2-3 trips a year )

Ms Lucy,

Life QC membership is no longer available for purchase.

I was lucky enough to inquire about membership with the Qantas Club in 94' when they had a promotion going whereby if you were a Life Member of Ansett's Golden Wing Club they offered you Life Membership of the QP at a very reduce rate because QF wanted your business. With that promotion I paid in the vicinity of $1100.00, so it has paid for itself many times over, but I too can only remember Life Membership being in the mid $4K range because at that time there was no upfront joining fee as there was with the annual membership. I have dropped back to Silver, and shortly will probably be back to bronze so the membership is useful to me if only check in.

To be honest I dont remember it must have been about 10 years ago my memory is not the best at times but i swear it was then, as far as value for money I was not thinking just wanted a special treat for life (just in case business didnt do so good I thought it was a gd life investment ) so value for money didnt come into it for me , sometimes I need to take a breather then reevaluate.Oh well!

I don't think there's anything wrong with that. When flying, I wear whatever I'm most comfortable in. Screw what anyone else thinks.

I so want to say pyjamas here...

um did i say that out loud

yep I did! :p

Actually, I thought this myself. I can't recall QP Life being that much.

Yes, Life QC was withdrawn about 2 years ago. My memory of Life QC being about $4200 relates to about that time.

I had the option in 2007. I missed out !!!! I bought my first QP membership back then only to have it suspended 3 months later as I reached SG :D

I wish I had it as I could have salary sacrificed it !

Living outside Australia helped lower the cost (no GST) if you thought you might be moving back someday.
Some of us OFT are professionals, dressing and acting as such, but I agree that the Perth QP is a shocker with all the CUB miners on company sponsored memberships. And now because of their behavior we have lost liquer and "normal" beers on WA flights!

Having just experienced the Perth QP, it wasn't the day glo that shocked me. It was all the guys obviously just off shift - thongs, stubbies and grotty T-shirt. The memories of my time working underground came flooding back.
