Qantas Price Promise | Book with confidence at qantas.com
At qantas.com, we know everyone loves to score a great deal. So along with no booking fees and fee free payment options when you book at qantas.com, all Qantas flights now come with a Price Promise.If you find a lower publicly available fare on an Australian website, for the same flight on the same day after booking with us, we'll match it*.
The same goes for hotels, cars, activities and transfers. And on top of that, Qantas Frequent Flyers can even receive 1000 extra points.^

Gee, that's a big commitment to make, might hit them on the trans pacific route more than they would like.

But, it would get me to book with them.

Can't see it hitting them too hard. Don't often see much of a discount via agents versus Qantas.com.

The Same Fare means a fare:

  • for the same route(s), with each leg of the trip flown in the same order;
  • for the same dates;
  • for the same flight numbers;
  • in the same class of travel; and
  • for the same type of ticket (including fare conditions such as whether tickets are/are not flexible, refundable or changeable).

No, but QF is routinely more expensive than all the other carriers.

But one of the criteria for the match is that it is on the same flight numbers. It's not for matching some other carrier.

Yeah, point taken. I miss read that. Hmm, so can probably find a return o/s ticket for maybe $20 or $50 cheaper if you spend the time to look.

Yeah when i first read that i thought it meant match any carrier and yes that would have been a big commitment, but also would have made me consider flying with them more...

The deal about same QF flight if discounted later is a whole lot less exciting but still i guess something...

Wish they would move to Jetstars offer of matching the price of a competitors flight...

I guess if a sale happened after you had booked (same fare bucket etc.) then maybe it would help.

But the trick with this is, the new fare will often be a different fare bucket, and may have different fare conditions.

Oh i know companies LOVEEE to say they will match or beat any competitors price etc and then put in every condition to make sure its almost impossible to claim against it, makes them seem so competitive without having to deliver squat...

And lets face it, outside of members of forums like this, who the hell understands fare buckets etc anyway, i still have little clue about all the different fare/class letters... So safe to say they ran the sums before offering this and don't expect to recieve a big hit from it...

But one or two people might be able to use it... possibly... perhaps.... :)

Nope! price match has to be claimed by midnight the same day.

  • Complete and submit the Price Promise claim form by midnight (23:59 AEST) on the same day as making and paying for your flight at qantas.com.

They're really not giving away too much at all:-|

Hilton's Best Rate Guarantee is a perfect example.

It's about driving you to book throught qantas.com and not looking for QF fares elsewhere - so the sale is processed through qantas.com and thus there's no commission payable to the agent.

QF hopes you'll just go to qantas.com without looking elsewhere, confident you're getting the best price for the flight you are booking. And you'll end up on qantas, not looking at a fare matrix on a consolidator website and picking another carrier who happens to be cheaper - they hope you'll just go to qantas.

//IMO off//

The only way I can see this being useful is if QF upload a sale price during the course of the day, and you booked prior to the sale being uploaded. Otherwise, they wont really have to pay out very often - it would be unusual for an agency to be sitting on cheaper flight prices than the airline (otherwise the agent wouldnt make any money). So I'd say most (all) sales will commence at exactly midnight now. If they didnt already.

Cheap marketing.

...It's about driving you to book throught qantas.com and not looking for QF fares elsewhere...Cheap marketing.

Definetely - same mantra the cabin crew have been drumming into pax on board 'Make Qantas.com your first destination'.

Completely agree re Hiltons Best Rate Guarantee....it is a complete crock! Given my experience with it, would wonder if anyone ever has a successful claim. The headline for this, and now Qantas, looks great but the fine print means that they pay out very little.

When I started to read the email I thought, wow this is great. My first thought was I can book now and if they offer it cheaper before I leave, I can get the cheaper price..... Nope not unless its before midnight on the day you paid in full.

Then I thought, aaah but find the cheap airfare on the other airline first and then book a matching qantas fare.... Nope its only on the same qantas planes with the same flight numbers.

So I was a bit dejected. Of course the only trick I can see is to book the flight and hold it for $25 for the week, before paying in full.

What a ridiculous waste of time....nice one QF marketing department!

I've never read so many conditions in my life...makes Jetstar's Price Beat Guarantee look amazing.

Useless.

You might have just hit upon the real answer.

QF seem determined to improve the image of JQ at all costs :!: :lol: :rolleyes:
