qantas.com Price Promise

You could try BA.com because on premium fare they can save (dependig on routing and dates)! I saved over $1000 on my last trip (although it was almost 7 months ago).

What about this bit that no one has raised.....

No booking fees and fee-free payment options?

Does that mean that the $7 Domestic Credit Card booking fees are now gone?

Nope! price match has to be claimed by midnight the same day.

They're really not giving away too much at all:-|

Oh. Teach me for jumping the gun before reading the fine print. You're correct, they're not conceding much. I guess it is an improvement, however minor, but I cannot see too many people benfiting.

You have to read the wording carefully. There are no booking fees, but there is a Credit Card fee.
There is a fee free payment option, but not by most credit cards.

This is purely a marketing ploy that will not catch any thinking traveller.

Points to consider:

1. It expressly excludes credit card fees. If you pay by credit card then Qantas WILL charge a credit card fee. Zuji, as an example, does not charge credit card fees. This can be a significant cost.

2. Even if you manage to find another flight at lower cost AND make the claim by midnight on the same day that you made the original booking, you won't see a credit for the difference in price between the lower available rate and the rate available on Qantas.com until after departure and up to10 days thereafter. That could be a long time away.

3. If there is a Sale Fare advertised after you make a booking it is very unlikely that the fare basis of your booking will be the same as the fare basis for the Sale Fare - so no refund.

4. Is it really worth your time and effort to search for a cheaper fare after making a booking just to maybe get 1000 points?

I don't see this news release will materially alter anyone's behaviour. Those that book through Qantas will continue to do so, those that don't won't change because of this.

Now if they were to offer a guarantee that extended from the date of booking to the date of the flight - that would be a different matter.

Where does it talk about Credit Cards excluded?

There is no $,%,^,*,#,@,!,~,`,+,= anywhere on that particular sentence.

Means no Credit Card fees.
Roberto+ric_melb, if that does 'exclude' CC fees, QF are deceiving people because online, 'l think' that's how the majority of people pay, vs BPAY

No, but it says there are fee free payment options, which there are. BPAY. But it's quite misleading, although technically correct.

I agree.
The whole CC fee is a giant rip off. How about putting it on a sliding scale related to what FF tier your on?
Log in, book a flight, Silvers get 5% discount off the CC fee, Golds 10% and Plats 15%? Or am l just thinking stupidly after a 14 hour day?

Yes it is (a ripoff). If they are going to charge it then it should represent the actual cost to them, so should be a (sensible) percentage of the total amount charged. The fact that they charge per person and per sector makes it an even bigger rort.

Choice gives Qantas a rap over the knuckles for Shonky credit card fee
But in a long written statement, Qantas has objected to the ignominious award. ''This is disappointing and we don't believe it is deserved in any way,'' said the statement, issued by the media relations manager, Simon Rushton. ''We believe our approach is straightforward, transparent, and that it ensures customers are always aware of what the additional cost will be where they use a credit card.''
"Qantas does not derive net revenue from the fees,'' Mr Rushton said. ''Our collections are lower than the costs we incur for accepting credit cards.''

Pull the other one!

It's not misleading - you just need to read the terms and Conditions which state in part:

The Flight Price Promise does not apply to:
  • Cancelled bookings or travel agent, corporate or membership rates.
  • Tickets purchased through anyone other than Qantas or a licensed travel agent
  • Lower online fares offered under any promotion with a third party (including, but not limited to, promotions with newspapers, exhibitions or other special events); or
  • Lower online fares that are not published and are not available to the general public including corporate discount fares, staff fares, consolidator fares, wholesaler fares, student fares, closed user group fares and fares where the carrier details are not known until after the purchase;
  • Lower online fares discounted by the online retailer by use of coupons, loyalty rewards, redemption of frequent flyer miles or similar and other offers or incentives to reduce the total cost; or
  • Lower online fares for a travel package with inclusive airfare; or
  • Lower online fares that are lower as a result of an error by the retailer of the lower online fare; or
  • Lower online fares that Qantas is unable to verify, using reasonable means.
The Flight Price Promise applies to total flight prices (including any fees, taxes or surcharges but not including credit card fees or commissions) which are quoted in Australian dollars without the use of a currency converter provided on the competitor's website. Only the individual who booked and paid for the flight on qantas.com (Claimant) may make a claim under the Flight Price Promise.

Note my bolding of "but not including credit card fees or commissions)"

If someone else is willing to sell you the same fare class on the same flight at the same price but at a lower or no credit card fee, bad luck - Qantas won't pay you the credit card fee difference.

Again, it's just a marketing gimmick - no real material gain.

I'd be amazed if anyone makes a successful claim, and if they do they:

a) Have got way too much spare time to research alternative vendors for flights, and
b) Obviously jump in and make a booking before doing all the research that their time allows.

Interestingly the guarantee also appears to apply if you book through "a licensed travel agent" - see second line of conditions above.

Surely if there was a cheaper price available them day you booked then you'd just book with the agent/site with the cheaper fare?

I'd seriously doubt if anyone will ever make a successful claim on this.

Zuji, as an example, does not charge credit card fees. This can be a significant cost.
...
Those that book through Qantas will continue to do so, those that don't won't change because of this.

I'm one of those sheep that nearly always book through Qantas.com, and stump up the $7.70.
I think I'll change to Zuji.
After all, since the Price Promise is nearly worthless, I won't lose anything by going elsewhere.
No more sheephood for me.

At first glance I was like what??? thinking they were matching to other carriers...

I don't think this move is a good thing. Seeing QF control the price anyway, they're either going to force travel agents to charge what QF website is charging or just shut them out all together...

Yes, l also got mixed up thinking QF had made a few changes in reply to VA; including changes to credit card fees on the whole. Skimming on a BB does have it's downfall.

Geezz, I'm glad i checked here first, I was almost about to waste my time and look like an idiot by making a claim for tickets i bought last week and comparing them to Virgin.
Sheez
I guess i read what i wanted to read from their promo email.

I was granted a price promise claim in October ( after a hassle) points supposed to credit after 8 weeks, followed up in December and "the person who proceses those is on holidays" etc. Still no points, sent email but no response YET. If they think I will forget about it they are wrong. Anyone had the 1,000 points credited yet ??
