Qantas Darwin International Lounge opening 1 November

Ok well it's not quite a new lounge but Qantas will take over the old Catalina lounge in the international section to provide a lounge for up to 100 people in transit.

Something I didn't see coming and look forward to the reviews. I thought they'd closed the Catalina lounge to turn it and the international departures area into processing for the NT border domestic arrivals.

I was surprised to learn from the footnote that the lounge at LAX has still been closed and will remain so until December - doesn't Qantas gain quite a bit of revenue from other Oneworld flights at that location? I thought they would have reopened by now even in the absence of Qantas flights, as it is preferred by a number of American Airlines travellers over the AA lounge.

Could be because BA is using the star alliance lounge and they might have a notice period to get out of that arrangement, and QF doesn't want to operate the lounge until BA comes back with them. I think they were preparing for December until quite recently.

However the AA Flagship lounge (which you can use even as QF Gold) beats the pants off the ow J lounge - so I think your statement would only be true for AC/QP non-status members. Moot point, as it's also still closed.

To be fair this is all temporary and WA is likely to come back. At the moment whilst there are some local jobs created at the airport, at most you've got a few hundred people stopping off in the airport for at most 90 minutes.

The real benefit would come if the NT allows vaccinated domestic and international people to enter without quarantine. They have pitched a date of 18 January when that will happen however there are a few conditions attached that might scare away some one who'd have a stop over to/from London.

These include; you must stay within areas of the NT that are 80% fully vaccinated, show a negative upon arrival from the last 48 hours and get tested on days 1, 3, 5, 7, 12 and 17.

Could easily spend that time in the NT provided those areas are 80% vaxxed
