Qantas Delays/Cancellations

QF5, the 1715 SYD - SIN on Friday 2 December is delayed for an anticipated half an hour in its departure.

The 1745 hours SYD - MEL, QF457 (B738 VH-VXN) took off at 1835 hours, so arrival is suggested as 1954, 34 late.

QF460 and QF478, respectively the Friday 2 December 2016 MEL to SYD flights at 1830 and 1845 hours have both been cancelled.

QF2289, the 1905 hours MEL - LST suffered the same fate.

The 1930 hours from CBR up to BNE, QF1554 (B717 VH-YQT) took off at 2039 with arrival forecast for 2104 hours, 49 minutes late.

QF467 is an identically timed departure but it is from SYD down to MEL, with the 2 December plane being A332 VH-EBD. Having taken off at 2031, it is suggested as arriving at 2151, 46 minutes late.

QF1522 is the 1955 hours short flight from CBR to SYD that was airborne at 2043 hours with B717 VH-YQW. It is predicted as arriving at its allocated position in SYD at 2123 hours this evening, 33 minutes late.

B738 VH-VYI on the 2000 hours MEL up to SYD, QF490, took off at 2039 but it is still expected to be about 39 minutes behind into SYD at roughly 2104 hours with B738 VH-VYI having the task.

Saturday 3 December 2016 sees QF583, the nicely timed 0925 hours from SYd down to HBA expected to instead depart at 1000 sharp.

QF1473, the 1055 SYD short flight to CBR has been cancelled.

The 03DEC QF9 service MEL-DXB is currently delayed more than 18.5 hours and scheduled to depart today at 18:00.

Just saw them tow OQH (Reg Ansett) to the gates, so I wonder if it is that flight.

OQH operated the inbound QF10 last night so I would say it is now fixed and will operate the delayed QF9 from yesterday at 18:00.

QF9 has a shocking on time departure record from MEL. Over the past week, not a single flight has left on time (within 15 minutes of the scheduled departure time). It has picked up some time however by the time it arrives in LHR.

Earlier on Sunday 4 December, QF11, the 1130 hours from SYD to LAX departed 34 minutes late with same day arrival expected at 0650, 35 late.

The delayed Saturday night QF9 referred to above departed MEL on Sunday 4 at 1819 - DXB arrival is expected at 0120 hours on Monday 5 December instead of 0630 on Sunday morning, with eventual predicted arrival at LHR being 0650 hours on Monday 5 instead of 1240 on the afternoon of Sunday 4.

The Sunday 4 December QF10 (due out of LHR at 1155 hours) has been cancelled as far as DXB. The Sunday night QF2 appears to be operating normally.

To balance the QF10 first sector cancellation, the Sunday 4 December QF1 from SYD to LHR is only running as far as DXB.

These partial cancellations are understandable in one sense as QF works to get the timetable back to normal, but they guarantee that some passengers who would have expected a trouble free, on time trip instead (for instance with QF1 this afternoon ex SYD) get shoved out at DXB and presumably are placed (where seats are available) on EK flights.

First hand accounts as to how passengers were treated - alternative flights, meal vouchers, accommodation and if so where and so on would be most welcome.

Also on Sunday 4 December, QF132, the 2200 hours arrival in MEL ex CHC is arriving at about 2250 hours.

The delayed QF9 (from last night) will arrive in DXB within 30 mins of today's QF1. Presumably they will consolidate passengers onto the one DXB-LHR sector and balance onto EK services. This allows the QF1 sector to LHR to be cancelled and aircraft will turnaround to operate DXB-MEL (as the aircraft isn't there due to yesterday's QF9 delay)

QF do not appear to even try to get QF9 away on time. It will be at least half an hour late tonight even though the incoming QF10 arrived early from DXB.

Re: Emirates Delays/Cancellations

I was on QF9 that left Friday night that was diverted to Muscat as Dubai closed due to fog. We spent ~2 hours on the ground refuelling before heading to Dubai which was a zoo as you can imagine.. Luckily the P1 team were looking out for me as they had already rebooked me onto a later flight to MXP. During the refuelling stop in Muscat the captain was walking around talking to passengers (I was in F) and he mentioned that the flight crew were very surprised that the airport had been closed.. I have to say the QANTAS crew were fantastic in handling the situation..

On Monday 5 December, QF495, the second timetabled from SYD to MEL of the morning at 0615 was cancelled as was QF407, the 0715 hours departure.

QF2448 from BNE to MOV at 0630 hours (AEST) has also been cancelled. MOV was badly hit by the coal price collapse (which has now partly recovered) and has been featured in a major newspaper magazine insert.

The 0820 hours SYD - ARM is instead expected to depart at 0850.

The 0700 hours peak hour QF409 from SYD to MEL took off at 0736 (A332 VH-EBN) so should arrive at about 0905, half an hour behind schedule.

Thank you Quickstatus.

Prior to your advice, I was simply going to post that QF7, the 1505 hours longhaul from SYD to DFW had been delayed until an expected 1610 hours in its departure. One assumes that its delay (due to the storm) will be far longer.

UPDATE: As at 1626, operations have resumed.

QF73 from SYD to SFO has been delayed (at least in part) by this significant thunderstorm activity around SYD with B744 VH-OJU not taking off until after 1636 hours. Arrival is suggested as 1045 instead of 0930 hours.

QF2261 from LDH, the 1410 hours timetabled departure has been in a holding pattern east of SYD for a fair time as at 1640 hours (Q200 VH-TQS) while QF1560, the 1350 hours ADL - SYD that took off at 1422 this afternoon (B717 VH-YQT) is in a similar boat (pardon the pun) along with three other either QF or VA flights, including QF442 (A332 VH-EBD) that is showing with a nominal landing time of 1645 that has become mythical given the weather.

The 0920 hours PER - SYD, QF642, took off unpunctually this morning at 1011 with A332 VH-EBS. It is caught with a number of other holding planes in the usual Goulburn - Crookwell (NSW) area with a suggested arrival time at about 1716 (which would be 46 minutes tardy.) QF923 from CNS down to SYD is in the same area in a hold and is nominally due into its SYD terminal at 1717, 57 late with B738 VH-VXR.

It will be interesting to see if any operators need to divert aircraft.

Most flights from MEL-SYD delayed by 50+ minutes this evening due to thunderstorms. They're making announcements on the lounge for passengers without luggage to move to earlier flights.

Tarmac activity at Syd still shut . That means that passengers on arrived aircraft can't disembark. No one allowed on the Tarmac.

Flights ts can leave and arrive but effectively grounded as it can't be serviced or directed to/from gates

As with the MKY - SYD 'competitor' VA1472, QF122, the 1525 hours ZQN - SYD that took off at 1545 looks to be diverting to CBR for an arrival there at about 1735. This latter (QF) flight is normally timetabled to arrive at the SYD terminal at 1640 hours. If there were Border Force staff rostered on (or more likely able to be called in), at least in an sbolute worst case passengers can be officially processed in CBR to enter Oz.

Can't disembark even via the air bridges?

It also looks suspiciously like QF444 (B738 VH-VXO, the 1530 hours from MEL to SYD that departed at 1556) may be diverting to CBR as it has descended to FL16 or so as at 1724. Looks like it may arrive at CBR at about 1740 - 45. This flight is due in SYD if operating punctually at 1655 so the delay will be significant.
