Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Please lets not get into a discussion on newspapers. I believe i have pulled you up on it once before pointing out where you were wrong and I can assure you you don't know what you are talking about with newspapers!

May I remind you that we are on a "Frequent Flyer" site where we learn about the tricks of flying. If i want to know the ins and outs of every plane, I'd look on a plane spotters website for that. Oh and I have given Qantas plenty of stick in the past but at the same time, if you are constantly bashing QF and their performance in the air.. at least be unbiased and compare with VA and some others too.. you never mention those.

Well said... One of those posts where merely a 'like' just isn't even close to the giving the appreciation it deserves.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

nlagalle, this is a discussion about QF cancellations and delays. I do criticise VA - for instance, its FF website is not user friendly and I have said so. A QF 13 hour delay is fairly serious if it involves turning back after departing DXB.

A discussion which realistically does not belong in this subcategory of the AFF website, but rather in a technical/operational forum.

Do you closely track their cancellations as much as you seem to with QF??

now off to find a rabbit yawning...

Plugs PR - they never get delays!

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

I personally enjoyed the yawning cat FWIW, although I don't much like cats in general.

I do quite like cats. My cat is sleeping at the moment, but I will update her with the QF2 and QF127 issues when she awakes.

I am unaware of her newspaper or news website preferences, however.

The UA SFO/LAX - SYD/MEL B747 flights have historically had many more delays than QF, but not a mention here.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

The delayed QF9 had quite a fast trip from DXB to LHR in six hours and 42 minutes, arriving at 1902 last night. It looks like it formed QF2, which got away from LHR 43 minutes late at 2158 - quite good in the circumstances.

This morning, QF10 from LHR and DXB is just about to arrive MEL at about 1030, three hours late as it spent multiple extra hours in DXB yesterday afternoon. In turn, QF93 was previously shown as delayed from its normal 1020 departure until 1130, but has now been put back to what still might be a little optimistic mooted departure of 1200, meaning at least an hour's late delay to the timetabled LAX arrival time of 0640. In turn, QF107 from LAX to JFK that is due out at 0845 might be delayed.

Bags of connecting MEL or SYD passengers to JFK are doubtless waybilled for transfer at LAX to QF107, but when delays to flights such as QF93 occur, are the passengers (and hold luggage) changed to travel between LAX and JFK on flights such as AA2, AA12 and so on so as not to delay the 744 operating BNE - LAX - JFK and return?

Update: QF93 departed MEL at 1230, but was not formed by QF10, but as far as I could see by QF94. So etops1 below should have A388 VH-OQK, while VH-OQH is on its way to LAX.

Well I'm on QF9 today (and a bit of an anorak) so this info is interesting.

But I don't see why we can't have a thread with both yawning animals and aircraft issues.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

I wonder if that was the same aircraft as the delayed QF 93 I flew Thursday?

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

This is going to have a significant flow on effect, as OQL is still on its way back from LHR after being delayed 36 hours from Wednesday QF2.

OQD is in Hong Kong - delayed QF128 by 24 hours.

there are 3 A388 out of schedule. Meaning there will be 744 substitutions or significant delays.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

doesn't sound too good. I hope QF is doing the right thing where necessary and accommodating economy passengers on other airlines if the need arises.

first and business class pax can hopefully vote with their $$.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

QF11 has been subbed with 744 today.
An A380 is positioning down to Melbourne from Sydney to operate QF9 in place of the aircraft that turned back to LAX.
QF1 is delayed until 22.30 (6 hrs) awaiting incoming OQL which is arriving back tonight 38 hours late.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Wow, that's cutting it a bit fine with QF1! I hope it makes the curfew.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Here is a brief report about the fuel pump(s) failure:

Fuel pump fault causes Qantas A380 to turn back mid-flight

www.flightradar24 is showing the aircraft as flight QF2D but only (in its text part) as operating from ':HR to DXB.' Sometimes this website does not cope with altered or delayed flights, which is surprising because its information source is otherwise pretty accurate. It also isn't displaying the number of kilometres (or nautical miles) that the delayed flight has now covered since departing DXB.

In direct contravention of what AFF members suggest above, QF claims 'no flow on effect'.

Is it merely bad luck that quite recently as AFF member Brettmcg explained, there was another serious (overnight) delay when a fuel pump failed on a QF A380.

Or is it becoming a systemic issue, notwithstanding that QF has 12 A380s undertaking multiple without incident rotations each week?

If so many A380s are out of position and in some cases 744s are having to substitute, how long before QF runs out of available spare 744s? Will there be further flow on delays for a couple of days or do the long layovers in LAX and LHR ensure that fairly quickly all flights get back to schedule?
