Qantas Delays/Cancellations

On Saturday 11 February, A332 VH-EBO on QF19 (1225 hours SYD - MNL) departed at 1312 and took off at 1327.

QF35 (1220 MEL - SIN, A333 VH-QPJ) took off at 1324. It should arrive half an hour behind schedule at 1755.

QF127/128 was due to end its seasonal A380 upguage tomorrow and return to 744 operations on Monday. However due to an out of position 380 (after 17 hour delayed Fri QF9), 744 operations resumes tomorrow and remainder of the 380 roster will be back on schedule.

An A380 will position to MNL for mx on Monday night. The out of position aircraft will be well and truly back in SYD by then assuming no other issues between now and then.

QF12 is delayed ex JFK for 18 hours and the QF16 delayed as well. It will arrive Sunday night now at 2355.

The QF12 LAX SYD will operate as planned.

OEB has been on the ground at SYD since Monday. Not sure if it's in maintenance or not and how quickly it can be pushed into service. If it can't be, they won't have a spare.
They may have to go back to the A380 for HKG tomorrow and delay QF1 until the arrival of the late QF2. That would free up a 747 to operate the BNE - LAX flight on Sunday.

EDIT - QF73 isn't operating tomorrow so there is a spare

The Friday QF7 arrived DFW at 1931, departing at 2148 as QF8 with an expected Sunday 12 SYD arrival at about 0721, 76 minutes behind time.

A388 VH-OQL on the 18 hour late QF9D is about to land at LHR at 0606 on Saturday 11 February, but will then take a few minutes to get to its terminal. The overnight delayed QF2 may perhaps depart a little after its retimed 0800. Amusingly QR9, the 0620 hours scheduled arrival at LHR (A380 A7-APA) is not far behind QF9D.

UPDATE: VH-OQL departed from LHR at 0804 hours on Saturday 11 (1904 AEDT), taking off at 0837 for the flight to DXB and SYD.

QF11 and QF12 on Sunday 12 February between LHR and JFK and return have been cancelled.

Interesting that they are canceling transcon QF11/12 rather than sending a replacement aircraft.

QF15 has been delayed to 0200 (Mon) some 15 hrs late.

There is no spare actually as one of the 744 is operating an Antarctica flight tomorrow - which would explain why SFO is cancelled tomorrow.

OEB must be in mx an unable to re enter service at this stage.

It may merely be that publicly displaying information has yet to be updated, but QF1/QF7/QF11 and QF127 ex SYD on Sunday 12 February 2017 are all showing as 'on time.'

On Sunday 12 February B744 VH-OEH is operating the 1100 hours SYD - HKG, QF127 that pushed back close to the timetable, taking off at 1121.

Despite the much delayed QF2 not arriving until 1721 this late afternoon (which is an improvement on what QF previously estimated), QF1, QF7 and QF11 are all still publicly showing as 'on time.'

There are enough A380 in SYD to operate 1, 7 & 11 on time. They swapped 127 to 744 because of the delayed QF2.

The Sunday 12 February QF35 from MEL to SIN is predicted to depart 70 minutes late at 1330, with arrival at 1835 being the same amount late.

Also on Sunday 12, QF93 from MEL departed 75 minutes late at 1230 for LAX, where estimated arrival should be 0735, an even hour behind schedule.

The Friday 10 February 2320 hours from LAX to BNE, QF16 (a B744) has been put back further, with anticipated departure at 1820 hours on Saturday 11 February and arrival of 0145 hours on Monday 13. This will make it impossible for the Sunday 12 delayed QF15 from BNE back to LAX to depart at 0200 hours on Monday 13; 0400 hours (ouch!) is more likely. This is one of the more unsociable hours at which an international flight can depart.

In turn, this looks like delaying the Sunday night QF16 ex LAX for BNE.

QF51 from BNE to SIN is not often late but on Sunday 12, this scheduled 1150 hours flight has been delayed until 1300 with suggested arrival at 1845, 50 minutes down.

Also on Sunday 12, QF1502, the 1010 HBA up to MEL is back to the old tricks on what has been at times an incredibly unpunctual B717 route with VH-YQW not having become airborne until 1235. Arrival is suggested as 1348, 138 minutes tardy. It may then be operating empty or special working flight QF6203 to CBR, the 1430 hours.

QF35 did not depart until 1405 (105 minutes tardy), taking off at 1415. A332 VH-EBV is estimated to arrive (by QF) at 1830 (65 minutes late) or by FR24 at 1907 (102 minutes late.)

Probably because an intense but possibly brief from the BOM radar map storm has dumped on SYD, there are a large number of aircraft in holding patterns as at 1745 hours on Sunday 12 February.

The 12 hour late QF2D (A388 VH-OQL) from DXB and before that LHR was among those caught up with the previously advised, amended arrival time of 1721 hours having blown out as the aircraft did about three loops in two different areas approaching SYD. It should arrive at about 1811 hours.

QF446, the 1600 hours MEL to SYD (B738 Vh-VZX) that was airborne only about seven or eight minutes late at 1623 is just ahead of QF2D and should be at its allocated gate at about 1806, 41 minutes late, showing just how weather can play havoc with schedules in a way that quite often overseas does not occur with high speed trains that cover a similar distance.

QF4 from HNL to SYD A333 VH-QPH, the 1000 had not taken off until 1125 on Saturday 11 but on Sunday 12 is arriving at about 1812 hours, 42 minutes tardy.

ZK-ZQH, a B738 on QF164, the 1605 hours WLG - SYD should pull in at around 1827, also 42 minutes behind time.

QF148 (1600 hours AKL - SYD, similarly operated by a B738 - ZK-ZQA) should arrive at 1816, 36 minutes tardy.

In turn, this looks like delaying the Sunday night QF16 ex LAX for BNE....

The arrival time for the delayed QF16 into BNE has become 0116 on Monday 13 February, so QF suggests that the Sunday 12 QF15 from BNE to LAX will be able to depart at 0315 hours, arriving at 2145 hours in the movie capital.

The Monday 13 February QF16 remains showing as 'on time' but this cannot help but be delayed by the very late QF15, unless the latter gains time on the prediction.

QF465 from SYD down to MEL, B738 VH-VZB, the 1900, took off at 1950 so it should be at its allocated southern capital gate at roughly 2110 hours, 35 late.

Longhaul QF3 from SYD to HNL on Sunday 12 February is expected to depart at 2030 rather than 1930 hours.

QF158 from AKL to SYD (A332 VH-EBO), the 1740 hours did not take off until 1955; it should arrive at about 2110 instead of 1905, so 125 minutes tardy.

Saturday 11 February saw QF10 depart LHR 69 minutes behind schedule at 1304: this is relatively unusual.

The DXB stop was from 0039 (99 late) to 0226 (81 late) on Sunday 12 with MEL arrival suggested tonight as 2222 hours, 57 minutes late.

Once again, QF9 (the 2325 hours MEL - DXB - LHR) will be late away, probably by at least 45 minutes.

JQ4 from HNL to SYD is estimated to depart 75 minutes late on Sunday 12 February (due to the late QF3) with Monday 13 SYD arrival expected an hour late at 1830.
