Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Continuing with Monday 5 June, QF127 (1000 hours SYD - HKG) departed at 1027 with arrival suggested late this afternoon local time at 1750, half an hour late.

QF19, the 1205 from SYD up to MNL is delayed until an expected 1330 in departing.

UPDATE: QF19 departed bang on 1330 hours, with arrival predicted at 1950, 80 minutes late in the Philippine capital and mega city.

QF15 departed 35 minutes late at 1055 from BNE making forecast LAX arrival also 35 minutes behind schedule at 0635 hours. Assuming that there are not any unexpected hiccups, the next B744 sector (QF11 to JFK) should be able to depart only marginally late on Monday 5 June.

Still on Monday 5 June, QF2171, the 1320 hours early afternoon from PQQ the short distance down to SYD took off at 1421. Q300 VH-SBB should pull in to its designated spot on the tarmac at roughly 1542 hours, 62 late.

This looks like delaying QF2172, the 1405 hours SYD - PQQ until a projected 1600 hours departure. Something else must have gone wrong earlier for this 1405 hours flight to be delayed waiting for what would have been a 1440 hours arrival if the latter had been punctual.

QF496, the 1645 hours MEL - SYD has been cancelled as has QF455, the 1730 hours in the opposite direction.

Sunday 4 June's QF12 departed JFK 140 minutes late at 2030, arriving LAX at 2300, 120 minutes tardy.

QF12 from LAX to SYD is normally held but it was allowed to depart only six minutes late at 2236, so it appears that passengers originating in JFK for SYD and MEL are both travelling via QF16 to BNE, which commenced push back in LAX at 0114 hours on Monday 5 (today, 114 minutes late.

QF16 BNE arrival is predicted on Tuesday 6 at 0805 hours, 115 minutes late. In theory this should be sufficient turnaround time for QF15 tomorrow morning to depart punctually from BNE for its flight back to LAX.

On Tuesday 6 June, QF738 (0915 hours from ADL across to SYD, B738 VH-XZC) did not take off until 1213 hours. Arrival is likely at 1425, 165 minutes late.

The late arrival from LAX of QF16 only delayed QF15 slightly, with departure at 1038 only 18 late. However same day LAX arrival is suggested as 0635, 35 minutes late.

While not a D or C but I'll put it here....

Usually a QFA380 is ferried into Lufthansa Technik at MNL as another completes its maintenance.

However VH-OQE ferried as QF6007 HKG-AUH in the evening of 30May after dropping its freight and passengers on 30May as QF127 SYD-HKG Qf128 is not operating.

There is no A380 undergoing maintenance at MNL replacing VH-OQD which departed in the wee hours on 31May

Lufthansa Technik has a line maintenance base at DWC at Dubai South Aviation Centre but not at AUH

What's happening here?.

Is OQE undergoing midlife refurbishment including installation of new seats?. My understanding this was to occur from 2018, but could this have been brought forward due to high utilisation of the fleet resulting in reaching the "midlife" point earlier?

The Monday 5 June 2017 QF12 (B744 VH-OEE) departed JFK 76 minutes tardy at 1926 hours, arriving LAX at 2238, 98 minutes late.

Unlike on Sunday night, the A388 connecting flight (QF12) was held, so it departed LAX at 0021 on Tuesday 6 with Wednesday 7 June arrival predicted as 0725 hours, 65 minutes late.

Monday's QF94 was not held (as QF rarely if ever does this when QF12 from JFK is late) so it departed LAX at 2244, 34 minutes past the allotted, with MEL Wednesday 7 arrival forecast as half an hour late at 0725.

QF16 is not operating on Monday night.

On a very wet Wednesday 7 June 2017 in Sydney, QF414 (A332 VH-EBN, the 080 hours MEL - SYD that was airborne at 0839 about 25 minutes late) should arrive half an hour behind schedule at 0955.

The following northbound, QF416 (B738 VH-VXS) took off 42 minutes after its 0830 hours scheduled departure. It should be in SYD 33 minutes late at 1028 hours.

QF1579 (the 0735 hours MCY - SYD that took off at 0825 with B717 VH-YQS) shiould be at its allocated arrivals gate at roughly 0952, 37 minutes late.

In further on 7 June, QF2021 from ARM to SYD, the 1001 hours that took off at 1030 (Q300 VH-SBT) should arrive at 1151 hours, 31 minutes late.

QF23 (0950 hours SYD - BKK, A333 VH-QPA) departed at 1010, with arrival expected at 1720 hours, 40 minutes late.

Continuing with Wednesday 7 June, QF2172 (1405 hours SYD up to PQQ, Q200 VH-TQX) was only taxiing in SYD at 1530, so will be at least an hour late.

A388 VH-OQH on QF1, the flagship flight that should depart daily at 1550 hours from SYD to DXB and later to LHR took off at 1719 hours on what has been a very wet Wednesday 7 June. DXB arrival is predicted as 0130 hours on Thursday 8 June, 65 minutes behind the timetable.

Temporary loss of some ATC radio frequencies in SYD has been experienced:

http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/major-del...ks-out-radio-frequencies-20170607-gwmlga.html

QF447 (1600 hours SYD down to MEL, A332 VH-EBG that was in the sky at a much delayed 1736 hours) should be at its southern capital assigned airport gate at about 1845, 70 minutes behind schedule. This will delay QF462, the 1900 hours northbound back to SYD from 1900 to 1930 in its expected commencement of pushing back. Meanwhile, QF454, the 1730 hours northbound was supposedly delayed in departing to 1830 but may be a bit later than that in commencing its journey.

Northbound QF454 has got off relatively lightly with B738 VH-VXH a predicted 31 minutes late into the major harbour city at 1911 early this evening, 7 June.

Southbound SYD - MEL QF449 (B738 VH-VYG, the 1630 hours) managed to become airborne at 1744 so arrival is forecast for 1854 hours, 49 minutes tardy. What should be the preceding 1615 hours departure, QF469 was in the sky at 1759 so it should arrive in MEL at 1913, 83 minutes late. Once again, when heavy rain strikes, it can be a lottery depending on which flight one is booked as to how late one is.

QF457 (1645 hours SYD - MEL, B738 VH-XZE) was in the sky at 1817, so arrival is forecast for 1928 hours, 68 minutes past the allotted.

QF453, the 1700 hours southbound is also delayed with VH-VYI suggested as arriving at 1941 hours, 66 minutes late.

On the much shorter SYD - CBR route, QF1517 (1655 hours scheduled pushback) took off at 1841 with B717 VH-YQS. Arrival is expected at 1917, 82 minutes late.

From SYD up to BNE, QF540, the scheduled 1700 hours took off at 1824, so B738 VH-VYH is suggested as arriving at the gate at 1945 hours, 75 late.

'If only' can be wishful thinking but if our politicians would build a reliable high speed rail network on routes like SYD - CBR - MEL and SYD - BNE, performance would be far better on inclement weather days than our domestic airlines can manage.

QF494, the evening's last at 2105 hours from MEL to SYD has been cancelled.

A333 VH-QPF is operating what may be an empty flight ('ferry') from MEL to SYD on Wednesday 7 June with takeoff at 2004 hours.

A332 VH-EBF on QF481 (1915 hours MEL across to PER that was airborne at 2009) should arrive at around 2216 hours, 51 minutes late.

QF5, the mid afternoon 1550 hours fromm SYD up to SIN is often punctual but on 7 June it did not depart until 1633 hours, meaning suggested arrival of 2255 hours, 40 minutes late.

The 1930 hours SYD - MEL (QF467, B738 VH-VXH that took off at 2051) is arriving at roughly 2201, 56 minutes late while QF465, the 1900 hours is even later with takeoff at 2053 hours for VH-VZC and arrival expected at 2204, 89 minutes tardy.

QF743 (B738 VH-VZM, 1820 hours early evening from SYD across to ADL that was airborne at 2036 should pull in at around 2154 tonight, 114 minutes tardy.

The 2000 hours MEL up to SYD QF490 (VH-XZE) was airborne at 2014 with arrival suggested as 59 minutes late at 2224 hours.

In further on a Wednesday 7 June marked by a lot of airline unpunctuality, QF786 (2000 hours BNE - CBS that took off at 2148 with B738 VH-VXU) should pull in to its FNQ destination terminal gate at 0001 hours on Thursday 8 June, 96 minutes tardy.

QF130 reportedly delayed out of PVG after a lightning strike on the in bound aircraft (VH-QPH)

QF130 reportedly delayed out of PVG after a lightning strike on the in bound aircraft (VH-QPH)

To build on moa999's helpful post, it looks like crew hours may have run out (or repairs needed) as QF130 from Wednesday 7 ex PVG has been altered to depart at 1830 hours tonight, Thursday 8 June, meaning SYD arrival on Friday 9 June at an expected 0630 hours.

Thursday's QF23 from SYD to BKK departed at 1037, 47 minutes late with arrival suggested as 1710 this afternoon local time, half an hour tardy.

QF11 departed SYD 34 minutes behind schedule at 1024 with same day arrival suggested as 35 late at 0705 hours. The B744 on QF63 (1050 hours SYD - JNB) commenced pushing back at 1106, but is not forecast to arrive until 1740, 40 minutes behind schedule.

The delayed QF1 departed DXB 68 minutes late at 0318 hours on Thursday 8 June with arrival suggested in LHR at about 0755 hours, exactly an hour late.

Later on Thursday 8 June 2017, QF1573, the 1320 hours from HTI down to SYD that took off at 1500 hours (B717 VH-YQS) should arrive at 1713 hours, 93 minutes late.

QF455 (B738 VH-VYK, the 1730 SYD down to MEL that was in the sky at 1811 hours) is pulling in to the southern capital at 1938 tonight, 33 minutes behind schedule.

Also on 8 June, QF10 (A388 VH-OQG) was in a hold above Rokewood, Vic. that has increased its delay, such that it should be at the MEL terminal at roughly 2125, half an hour late. Thi8s will at least slightly delay QF9 back to DXB and LHR by a minimum 15 minutes past its scheduled 2255 hours departure.

Although the overnight delayed QF130 from PVG to SYD (A333 VH-QPA) was supposed to depart at 1830 local time on Thursday 8 June, it did not get away until 1945 hours, so Friday 9 June arrival will be at 0725 hours.

QF130D VH-QPH Dep 1904 Sched Arr 0710
QF130 VH-QPA Dep 2005 Sched Arr 0815

Somewhat strangely they are taking very different flight paths.
QPH has tracked down the Chinese coast to near HKG and is now leading the HKG troika of QF98,128,30
Whereas QPA is heading more directly over the Phillipines Sea and joining with the NRT track.

Possibly equipment restrictions?

Elsewhere on AFF someone posted that VH-QPA is not (fully?) certified for EDTO (the new name for ETOPS) if I recall.

On Thursday 8 June 2017, QF12 departed JFK at 1924, 74 minutes late and should arrive LAX at about 2145 hours, 45 minutes tardy.

On the tracks they took I would have said QPH was land hugging (it was the one that got hit by lightning), whereas QPA was flying straight over the Phillipines Sea

Continuing with Friday 9 June, QF740 from ADL across to SYD (B738 VH-VXR) was in the sky at 0906 compared to its 0815 hours timetabled pushback; arrival is predicted for 1113 hours, 38 minutes late.

QF2022 (0845 hours SYD - TMW, Q300 VH-SBT) from SYD up to TMW may be affected by fog in the NSW Northern Tablelands as it had not taken off by 1036.
