Qantas Delays/Cancellations

In further on Wednesday 15 November, QF81 (1135 hours SYD - SIN) departed 56 minutes late. Suggested arrival is 65 late at 1750.

QF37 [5:25pm MEL-SIN] on Friday 17th has been cancelled, seemingly due to "EBN AOG SIN".

PAX Moved to a choice of earlier QF35 at 12:35pm or EK Codeshare at 6:45pm.

Do any know what AOG means? [A<something> on Ground?]

serfty, while I cannot answer your question - '...on ground' is a good guess' - you may note that a couple of posts above I highlighted how VH-EBN was marooned in SIN.

One assumes it must need repairs that are time consuming.

It just means 'aircraft on ground'.
Heh - I guess I intuitively did know the answer.

Interesting cancellation 2 days before.

FWIW, I was booked on it and until this morning was showing 9's in all revenue classes as well as X9. Very lightly loaded. I had counted no more than 15 seats preallocated in economy last night.

serfty, this is the second time in recent weeks there have been AFF members reporting poor patronage on QF37 - if I recall, JessicaTam reported '140' when hers was cancelled. However 15 is very, very low.

It would be interesting to know the number of seats sold for QF38, the nominal return (although sometimes aircraft can be swapped in SIN.)

Thursday 16 November has QF670 (B738 VH-VZC, the 0605 hours from ADL across to MEL that did not take off until 0704) arriving at roughly 0839 hours, 44 minutes late. QF488, the 0845 hours MEL - SYD as a result is expected to depart at around the 0910 hours mark.

QF2280 from LST to MEL has been cancelled.

The 0705 hours morning QF153 from MEL to AKL (B738 ZK-ZQE) was in the sky at 0740 hours, with consequent predicted arrival at 1311, 31 minutes tardy.

The DPO up to MEL QF2050 (Q400 VH-LQD), the 0740 hours arrival is expected in about 67 minutes late.

A332 VH-EBA on QF405 (0630 hours from SYD down to MEL) was in the sky at a delayed 0755, so arrival is forecast for 0911 hours, 66 minutes late. B738 VH-VYI on the same route's scheduled 0645 hours took off at 0810, so its arrival (QF403) at 0909 will be 64 late.

QF409, the 0700 hours SYD - MEL took off at 0825, so arrival of B738 VH-XZA should occur at 0941 hours, 66 minutes late.

UPDATE: QF488 is expected to arrive in SYD at 1050, 40 minutes late, showing how delays can compound when weather conditions are unfavourable and turnarounds do not occur in the allocated time.

Continuing with Thursday 16 November and some more delays on the lucrative SYD - MEL route, QF411 (A332 VH-EBC) and QF419 (A332 VH-EBE), respectively the 0730 and 0900 hours departures took off at 0946 and 0949 hours. QF411 should arrive at about 1107 hours, 122 minutes late while QF419 is expected to pull in to its allocated MEL gate at approximately 1115 hours, 40 minutes behind schedule.

QF420 (0930 hours MEL - SYD) is predicted to depart 75 minutes behind. QF426 (1100 hours, same route and direction) should be 45 minutes late pushing back.

Unless there are cancellations later in the day, one can expect more delayed flights on this most important route of the golden triangle.

The SYD - MEL air route's lacklustre timekeeping and relatively high cancellation rates of late (not confined to QF) stand in stark contrast to other nations that have invested in high speed trains that have excellent punctuality.

QF681, the 1100 hours from MEL across to ADL is suggested as departing half an hour tardy.

QF811 (B738 VH-VYB, the 0940 hours CBR down to MEL that was pointing skywards at 1018) should pull in to the southern capital at 1130 hours, 40 late.

QF679, the 1000 hours from MEL across to ADL has been cancelled as has QF612 (1010 hours MEL - BNE.)

According to theqantassource, QF36 SIN-MEL was cancelled yesterday due to the EBN issue.
QANTAS A330-200 VH-EBN Singapore Technical Issue.
November 14, 2017
QANTAS A330-200 VH-EBN operated QF81 Sydney – Singapore this afternoon, however the aircraft encountered a technical issue at Singapore causing a re-allocation of aircraft and the cancellation of QF36 Singapore – Melbourne.

serfty, it looks like A332 VH-EBN remains in SIN as of this moment, making about 42 hours since it landed on Tuesday 14. This is becoming a significant period when it is inoperable.

The QF A332 fleet is relatively sizeable, but surely some other flights may have to be cancelled because of this unexpected unavailability.

Also on Thursday 16 November, QF81 has been delayed by 40 minutes to an expected 1215 hours in its pushing back.

A332 VH-EBA on QF475 (1135 hours MEL - PER) took off at 1244. A 61 minute late arrival at 1346 hours is on the cards.

The 1200 'high noon' QF848 from MEL up to CBR took off at 1254. Arrival of B738 VH-VYF should be at 1346, 41 late. The identically timed departure to SYD, QF430 was slightly behind, taking off at 1256 - B738 VH-XZH should arrive at 1412 hours, 47 late.

QF117, the 1205 hours SYD - HKG that as Flyerqf informed us has become the B744 flight (with QF127 now the smaller A333) should depart 55 minutes late.

QF35 (1225 hours MEL - SIN) should also depart at 1300.

The 1135 hours late morning ADL across to MEL, QF682 (B738 VH-VXJ) was in the sky at 1256 this afternoon. Expected arrival has become 1446 hours, 81 minutes behind schedule.

In further on 16 November 2017, QF450 (1630 hours MEL up to SYD that was airborne at 1732 hours, B738 VH-VXF) should arrive at 1837, 42 minutes behind time.

The next flight, QF448 (1645 ex MEL that was in the sky at 1807 with VH-XZA, another B738) looks to be arriving at around the 1900 hours mark, 50 minutes late.

MrsOatek and myself were booked on fog delayed QF411 this morning, as the first leg of SYD-MEL-LST. Some of the other delayed flights got away with less wait for the fog to lift because the aircraft were in SYD ready to go. But VH-EBC had a late start from MEL and was turned around very quickly once it got to SYD.

I had picked this flight because for one reason or other I had missed out on experiencing the new A330 J Class despite a number of previous attempts. Happily we finally ticked that off and had plenty of time to join the slightly delayed QF2283 onward to LST. But as every flight from SYD to MEL was called in the Lounge there was the rider "there are no spare seats on this flight" as many pax tried to reduce the delay.

With what look to be storm clouds approaching from the north during 16 November's evening, QF694 (1805 hours ADL across to MEL that was in the sky at 1839 with B738 VH-XZP) is arriving at 2028, 33 minutes behind schedule.

QF1504 1220 service HBA MEL, cancelled today 17/11. Understand reason is a sick FO.
Best they can do for us is an extra flight QF1309 at 20.50.
So a long boring afternoon at HBA.

That's a very long wait ayebee, but understandable because one would expect the Friday afternoon peak period flights of any airline ex HBA to be fully booked in all except non-school holiday (and no big AFL matches in Melbourne) winter. I assume from the tone of your contribution that you have not been granted complimentary lounge access (if not already entitled) as at the busier time around 1600 this afternoon there would be insufficient seats for delayed and 'normal' passengers.

Have you been given lunch and dinner vouchers to a certain value? How much?

Also on Friday 17 November, QF129 (1055 hours SYD up to PVG) did not depart until 1154; arrival is expected at 1940 hours, 70 late tonight so QF130 returning will inevitably be late off its blocks or chocks.

.

Thanks for your sympathy. We are lowly silver, and no complimentary invitations forthcoming. They gave us $20 voucher each for lunch and promised another for dinner.
At least got to see an airforce C-17 depart.

ayebee, just an idle thought: while one expects no vacant seats (and if so, in QF FF priority order, others to be ahead of you), is it worth hanging around the departure lounge for QF1506, the 1540 hours to MEL and QF1508, the peak period 1715 hours just to ask at the last minute if there are vacant seats because a couple of travellers have not fronted? Of course if you have checked baggage this is impractical.

A332 VH-EBN remains in SIN, not having carried any passengers since arriving on QF81 at about 1751 hours in SIN (ex SYD) on Tuesday 14 November. Does anyone have any information on what repairs are required?
