And QF127 is J0, W0, Y0 so full up and probably overflow to be accommodated elsewhere. Will no doubt be a difficult for some expecting to fly, and those waiting for the return flights from HKG.

OATEK, assuming there are spare seats on other QF and competitors' flights, is your sense that QF would typically transfer anyone who is 'bumped' onto other QF flights via MEL (I'm talking for passengers ex HKG) or would some (perhaps higher value passengers) get placed on (say) CX from HKG down to SYD (a quicker trip than having to transfer QFi to QFd in MEL or BNE.)

It helps little that QF117 is now the higher capacity flight. Previously QF127 had this role.

QF127 is shown as 744, so although not an A380, it is much better than an A330 that normally operates the 2nd flight
QF97 ex-MEL is J1, Y9 (A330) so probably has some capacity, but requires more logistics than moving them to CX or putting them off for a day or so.

Obviously it's cancelled but FR24 shows QF117 on 1 March 2018 as to be operated by A388 VH-OQF that presently is running QF2 from DXB that in the morning should arrive at roughly 0723 hours, 53 minutes tardy. In theory no reason why it cannot operate QF117. Not happening though.

OQF is scheduled to go to LAX.

OQB is currently in HKG. Until it departs, I can't see what is it's next planned operation is, but all the other A380 flights from Sydney tomorrow have an aircraft allocated.

I am assuming OQB needs unscheduled maintenance.

The Wednesday 28 February 2018 QF9 that departed MEL 71 minutes late (at 0036 hours Thursday 1 March) should arrive LHR at 1335, 55 minutes tardy.

QF117 (scheduled 1305 hours early afternoon SYD to HKG) is showing on FR24 as a B744 for tomorrow (Friday 2 March) and the following seven days. Is this changed - it was an A388 for quite some days prior to today's cancellation.

QF127 was B744 VH-OEG today but tomorrow and subsequent days look to be the more normal A333.

Wouldn’t suggest people fly with me on Qantas... I do my best to avoid them. Last time was on the QF64 that diverted to Canberra. I’m due on QF24 tonight and it looks to be running many hours late. Qantas in their competence has not bothered to inform us.
I saw earlier today that QF23 was delayed 2h30m and due to arrive at 6:40pm. The usual turn around time is 1h50m but today they are planning on turning around on just on an hour.

Ended up arriving in Sydney in the region of 5 hours late.

It was all a bit of a painful exercise. They sent J pax to the Emirates Lounge (not sure if that is normal?) and the staff refused to make announcements. This meant the many Qantas passengers were walking up to the desk every 15 minutes or so asking what was going on (as the delay was rolling on and on). One passenger went to the desk and I heard the Emirates agent say "boarding in another 30 minutes". I walked past the departures board and saw "final call" at the same time. The entire J load of passengers ended up running to the gate being chased by staff yelling "Sydney FINAL CALL! BOARD NOW!!!". The gate was far from close...

Finally got settled onboard and as the CSM did his little introduction I got a charming "what? is there something wrong with you? you look stressed" (while running his hand from his forehead down).

I really remember why I don't fly Qantas.

Friday 2 March has seen QF11 depart 54 minutes late at 1224 hours from SYD. Projected LAX arrival, same day, is 0650, half an hour behind.

The 0930 hours SYD - HKG QF127 departed 134 late at 1144 this morniong. Arrival has become an estimated 1805 hours, 135 late. Aircraft is A333 VH-QPH that arrived at about 0941 hours, 131 minutes tardy on QF24 ex BKK after yesterday similarly departing SYD late on the fairly erratic, timekeeping wise, QF23, a flight that used to be pretty punctual. TG now way outperforms QF for timely arrivals on this secondary route.

QF19 (1225 hours SYD - MNL) pushed back 52 late but should arrive 32 late at 1802 tonight. Mostly this five day a week flight (one day has a differently timed departure) is an A332 but today A333 VH-QPC that arrived SYD on QF6 ex SIN six minutes early at 1034 has the task.

The mid to latish arvo QF5 (1645 hours SYD - SIN second flight) is put back two hours with arrival suggested as 2340 late this evening, 105 minutes behind the timetable.

On the first day of the northern spring, QF12 pushed back from JFK four minutes early at 1756 hours. Doubtless this has previously occurred, but it's pretty rare. More often at least half an hour late and sometimes depending on the vagaries of connecting flights ex Oz east coast plus USA east coast weather that contribute to QF11's unpunctuality, transcon QF12 can be significantly behind time.

OATEK, yes, but you are using the astronomical definition, whereas if I'm not mistaken I'm using the meteorological discussion. Not sure which is more accepted, and some nations such as Finland may use a third way of calculating its commencement - the climate.

I am not however a scientist so detailed discussion can be their preserve.

20 March 2018 is the Spring Equinox. An equinox is the moment when the Sun sits directly above the equator. This means that days and nights are of equal duration, it’s the point when Winter becomes Spring. (Astronomically).

However Spring is taken to start on the 1st day of March (traditionally)

More importantly the change seasons is (in many temperate places) marked by daylight saving changes and flight schedules also change to reflect the fact that for some sectors Daylight saving moves in such a way as to cause a 2hr net difference. (Long haul between northern and Southern Hemispheres)

A332 VH-EBG on QF24 ex BKK on Friday 2 March departed 77 minutes tardy at 1917, took off at 1940 and on Saturday 3 arrived SYD at 0840 hours, 70 minutes behind time.

QF20 from MNL (A333 VH-QPC) departed only 21 late at 1921 after QF19 arrived 35 late at 1905 hours. However QF20 must have had an inordinate wait for other aircraft as it looks to have not taken off until 2045, arriving SYD this morning at 0728 hours, 73 minutes tardy.

Friday 2 March's QF2 from LHR departed 55 minutes late at 2140 hours with Saturday 3 arrival at DXB an estimated 0827, 32 minutes tardy.
