Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Saturday 3 March's QF9 did not depart MEL until 0053 on Sunday 4, 88 minutes late, arriving DXB at 0744, 74 minutes behind. Likely LHR arrival is at least 50 minutes late.

B738 ZK-ZQD (QF155, the 1645 hours Monday 5 March MEL - AKL that did not take off until 1754) should arrive at roughly 2344, 84 minutes late.

An aircraft with a far longer journey, B744 VH-OEB on QF28 from SCL westwards to SYD should arrive at around 1826 hours, 46 minutes late.

No surprise at this time of the day, but there is a constant stream of 'traffic' into SYD with QF756, the timetabled 1450 hours mid afternoon from ADL across to the mainland harbour city not having helped its cause by taking off at 1617. B738 VH-VYG should arrive at approximately 1838, 83 minutes tardy after experiencing being held over the Jugiong and Gundagai areas, once notorious for collisions for those of us who years ago travelled by road on the then Hume Highway.

QF123D (Q400 VH-LQH, but normally operating as QF2123) looks to be pretty much on time for an 1840 arrival in SYD ex WTB in southern Queensland, so not quite sure why the 'D' for 'delay' designator is appearing on FR24.

Also on Monday 5 March, QF653 (2040 hours evening MEL across to PER) is predicted to depart 55 minutes late.

A332 VH-EBM (QF149, the 1925 hours SYD across to AKL) took off at 2025 and as a result should arrive at about 0004 hours on Tuesday 6, which would be 39 minutes behind time.

On Wednesday 7 March 2018, QF11 and QF12 were cancelled LAX - JFK and return. From a brief look, there are snowstorms in and around the New York City area so one assumes the weather was the reason.

The increasingly unreliable QF23 from SYD to BKK due out at 1030 hours is instead expected to depart at 1740. BKK arrival is expected at roughly 2315 late tonight local time rather than 1610 hours, or 425 minutes late. QF24 is displaying on the QF site as departing at '2220 hours' so it looks like there may have been a further delay to 'the 23.' By a quick calculation, it will be hard for 'the 24' to depart the Thai capital much before 0040 so that means an approximate 1400 hours arrival in Sydney on Friday 9 March.

QF63 (1135 hours SYD across to JNB, the B744) departed 50 minutes tardy with suggested arrival at 1724, 49 late and in turn delaying the departure of tonight's (local time) QF64.

The more often than not timely QF79 pushed back in MEL at 0957 hours, 37 late with projected NRT arrival 1821 hours, 36 late.

The expected delay to Thursday 8 March's QF23 from SYD to BKK has become even longer with a 2000 hours departure, which would be 570 minutes late or just about the usual time in the air for this sector. QF24 should - I didn't say 'will' depart BKK at the uncomfortable hour of 0300 or so, but one cannot be more accurate until 'the 23' is airborne.

The Wednesday 7 QF12 departed LAX at 2259, 29 late; Friday 9 arrival in olde Sydney town should be at 0901, 31 late. QF16 is worse, having commenced its pushback in LAX at 0008 hours this morning (48 minutes down), so BNE Friday 9 March arrival is forecast for 0815, an hour behind schedule.

QF94 to MEL, timetabled ex LAX at 2206 hours on Wednesday 7 March is predicted to depart at 0100 hours on Thursday 8 for a Friday 9 at gate time in MEL of around 1145 hours, 165 minutes tardy.

Tomoorow morning;s QF93 ex MEL remains displayed as a punctual 1115 hours pushback but that may just reflect the QF practice of not updating flights until the aircraft that is forming it is in the air at cruising altitude. If it is formed by the arriving QF94, the earliest it is likely to be off blocks is around the 1330 hours mark.

As at 2120 AEDT, QF23 remained showing as a '2000 hours' departure.

In the past when various sites are not updated for a long time after an estimated (delayed) departure, this can mean that the flight will or has been cancelled. Is there an AFF member at SYD international airside who can advise?

The 8 March QF23 service finally departed SYD at 2134.

The 8 March QF23 service finally departed SYD at 2134.

eminere, many thanks: it pushed back at 2121 and took off at 2134. Aircraft is A333 VH-QPB. It had arrived more or less on time as QF108 from PEK at 1418 hours mid afternoon, so goodness knows why it was so delayed. That QF had to use an aircraft that did not arrive in SYD until almost mid afternoon tells me something else had gone wrong earlier in the day.

QF23 looks to be arriving BKK at 0135 hours on Friday 9 so departrure of QF24 should be able to occur at about 0250 or a bit later, assuming no further untoward events and cooperative passengers. SYD arrival tomorrow afternoon may be at approximately 1620, which would be 530 minutes late (although QF is pitching for an 0240 hours departure and a 1605 hours arrival.) Most of the day gone for intrepid travellers.

Thursday 8 March's badly delayed QF23 that has not long got away means a very late QF24 arriving in SYD on Friday 9 March as noted above.

Latter is showing as pulling in to gate 34, the same one that QF5 (1645 hours SYD - SIN) is allegedly to depart from.

At this stage - stressing that aircraft and hence times can alter - if I was on QF5 I'd be expecting departure to be at least an hour late tomorrow arvo. Let's see how inaccurate I am.

QF has revised projected Friday 9 March arrival for QF23 to 0249 hours. QF24 is expected to depart BKK at the unfortunate hour of 0405, with SYD arrival at 1730.

If QF5 is formed by QF24, it won't be able to depart until much before 1845 - two hours late.

Ouch, so will/have they moved people from QF24 to different flights?

Hvr, EK418, the scheduled 1930 hours BKK - SYD would be ideal. Who knows if it had many (or any) spare seats and in what class(es). You'd hope that loadings might be lighter when it's not a Fri or Sat night but that is unpredictable. Quite often I've used Expert Flyer that shows (say) 200 booked on a flight but when one steps on board and asks, there's 250 passengers. (Silly example but you know what I mean.)

Any updates on Sydney T1 and T2? Booked through there this afternoon. Wondering if the issues likely to extend until then?

Based on previous passenger processing issues in the past, a domino effect is likely to be in place and will be in place for the rest of the day.
A power failure caused IT issues apparently.

T3 is also affected but not certain whether to the same degree

At the very least go to the airport a lot earlier or contact your airline for instructions

@nutwood are you T1 or T2? If you are a twitface user @sydneyairport will have tweets

The delayed QF23 forming QF24 was in BKK from 0248 hours (538 minutes late) to 0356 hours (596 minutes late), the fastest observed turnaround of an A333 I can recall. Snappy at just 68 minutes: impressive!

Arrival in SYD is likely at 1723 says QF for VH-QPB which would be 593 minutes behind time, but FR24 (unusually) is more optimistic, predicting 1645.
