Qantas Delays/Cancellations

VPS, this may not answer the gist ofyour question but this is the second consecutive day that B738 ZK-ZQF has operated QF171.

It looks like on Friday 9 March it was meant to operate QF151, the scheduled redeye at 2335 hours from MEl overnight to WLG where arrival should be at 0510 hours today. However that was cancelled.

This may have meant the crew needed to rest for the minimum number of hours which would be past 0930 this morning.

The 0930 hours QF171 did not take off until 1218 this arvo so WLG arrival is likely at 1748, 168 minutes late.

I've not looked up historical weather for Wellingtron but as you will be acutely aware today is benign though hardly warm at 17C.

QF suggests QF172 will depart from WLG at 1825 early this evening, 85 late and arrive MEL at 2035, 90 late. You won't make QF701, the 2020 hours MEL - ADL or even VA249, the 2040 hours. Fight for an hotel and please advise us as to which one QF gives you, transfer time that it takes and meal vouchers amount or other things.

Thanks - they did just announce another delay so there is now zero chance of getting to Adelaide tonight. Wellington is glorious today - sunny, cool and not too windy. Hope Qantas put me somewhere nice

QF12 is in JFK with a 3.5 hour delay. Not expected into LAX until after midnight.

QF16 will be be badly delayed although this is not showing yet. QF 12 and QF 96 could also be held for connecting pax.

Oh dear. The QF12 B744 in JFK (due to depart at 1800 hours on Friday 9 March local time) will now depart at 1230 hours on Saturday 10 March, with estimated arrival in LAX at 1520 hours on Saturday mid afternoon instead of 2055 on Friday evening.

QF16 on Friday 9 (LAX - BNE) will presumably be cancelled. The fate of QF15 on Sunday morning ex BNE will depend on whether a spare B744 can be found.

Also on Friday 9 March, QF94 from LAX to MEL has been delayed by an hour to 2205 in its pushback. It should be A388 VH-OQE although most of the time this flight has become a newer B789 with roughly half the passenger carrying capacity.

The delayed Saturday 10 QF23 departed SYD at 1446 mid afternoon (256 minutes tardy) with BKK arrival estimated as 1955 instead of 1610 hours, which would be 225 late. QF24 may be able to depart at 2100 (0100 AEDT Sunday morning) with the same fast turnaround enjoyed two nights ago (180 minutes behind schedule) with a consequent Sunday 11 March SYD arrival at 1020, 170 minutes past the allotted.

UPDATE: Friday 9 March's late night QF16 from LAX to BNE is showing as 'cancelled.'

QF15 from BNE to LAX is also cancelled (the Sunday 11 March 1020 hours departure.)

Hmmm my Sunday 11/3 QF11 across to JFK that shows as “on time” will presumably be eventually cancelled I’m guessing?

@meljfk
Depends on whether there is a spare 744 to operate QF15 on Sunday 11/3...

Quickstatus, this is the second time in the last few days when you've seemingly not read the previous recent posts.

A couple of contributions above, I indicated that QF15 ex BNE tomorrow has been cancelled.

Just helps the 'flow' in minimising repeated questions.

Unusually, the Saturday 10 March 2018 QF1 from SYD to DXB (A388 VH-OQF) did not depart until 2109, 254 minutes late. It took off at 2123 which based on observation is quite promptly for an A380 at SYD, but the low level of other 'traffic' at this time must help.

The intermediate stop is estimated (Sunday 11) to commence at 0500 hours, 260 late but the QF website does not give times beyond that. If it can reduce the duration of the DXB stop to 85 minutes and pick up half an hour between there and LHR, my guess is about a 1020 hours arrival in London tomorrow.

As QF10 is scheduled to depart at 1155 hours, it may be at least a bit late but it's far too early to suggest by how much.

Apparently pilot was sick last night and they couldn’t find a replacement

Saturday 10 March's delayed QF23 arrived BKK at 1956 hours, 226 minutes late. The turnaround did not match the 68 minutes of two nights ago, with departure at 2113 meaning it took 77 minutes.

SYD arrival today for this QF24 should be 1043 hours, 193 minutes late.

With the changeover of times in the USA, the 'new' timed QF93, the 1015 hours is expected to depart from MEL at 1100 on Sunday 11. This is due to QF94 coming in at 0918 hours, 78 minutes late. An hour and 42 minutes to 'reverse' the plane is close to the minimum observed for QF of an hour and 38. Quite snappy footwork required.

The late QF1 ex SYD yesterday is showing changed times for the DXB stop, from 0405 to 0625 with LHR estimated at 1005 hours today, 200 minutes late. If this holds, it should allow QF10, the 1155 hours to depart on time.

On Sunday 11 March, QF93 departed MEL a little later than expected, at 1129 hours, 74 late. LAX arrival should be 45 late at 0720 hours same day.

On Saturday 10 March, QF12 departed JFK 76 minutes late at 1916, with estimated LAX arrival at 2215 hours, also 80 late. QF12 from LAX to SYD should depart 55 late at 2325 hours, arriving SYD on Monday morning at 0930, an hour behind the schedule.

Saturday’s QF130 from PVG is delayed until 1630 Sunday. Arrival into SYD is now Monday morning, instead of Sunday.

The departure delay has become worse, to 1940 hours tonight (2240 AEDT.) Anticipated arrival of QF130 in SYD on Monday 12 March is 0915 instead of 0940 hours on Sunday, so almost a day late.

A333 VH-QPC had operated QF129 for three consecutive days but is now stuck in Shanghai enjoying a pleasant Sunday morning and arvo off.

Is the extra delay due to slot unavailability at either or both ends, or minimum crew rest times?

The 1335 hours SYD - PEK (QF107) is suggested as delayed 40 minutes in its departure on Sunday 11.

QF107 on Sunday 11 March departed SYD an hour late at 1435. PEK arrival should be at 2255, 40 minutes tardy. A332 VH-EBG has the task: no obvious reason because although it came in late on 'the 24', in theory it had sufficient turnaround time to depart punctually.

The delayed QF1 (ex SYD Saturday 10 March) was in DXB on Sunday 11 from 0409 to 0629 hours, the latter being 229 minutes late. LHR arrival is estimated as 1015 hours, 210 minutes behind time.

An hour 40 is just sufficient to turn an A380 around if all goes well, so any delay to today's QF10, in theory, will be marginal.

Sunday's QF483, the 1515 hours from SYD down to MEL (B738 VH-VYB) did not take off until 1624, so arrival is forecast at 1736, 46 minutes late.

A332 VH-EBM had not been used since 1330 hours on Saturday 10 but on Sunday 11 departed 55 minutes late on QF19, the 1725 hours SYD - MNL.

VPS, have you been put up in accommodation overnight? Where? How was the process? meals included?

All good. As we got off the plane last night there was someone waiting for us. They had a new itinerary and boarding pass for each and a voucher to stay at the Park Royal with a $50 voucher that we could spend on what we wanted (red wine in my case). They put me on a 8.30am flight (the first to ADL) and I asked if I could change it to 10am and they said not a problem just go to the desk and it was done in two minutes.

When I was in Wellington and they said I might not make the connection I asked about the Sydney flight - the staff there had no idea and they said I'd have to pay to change to go via Sydney (I couldn't have made that connection either) and they said I'd have to contact Qantas to get a refund for my points for my upgrade. I did suggest that maybe they could just do that for me but it wasn't an issue anyway because I couldn't go via Sydney.

I really can't complain about the service from Qantas in Melbourne

All good....I really can't complain about the service from Qantas in Melbourne

Fascinating information. I agree: you were treated well. Airline would not pay what lowly individuals like I would shell out at Parkroyal. You mention 'us': I'd bet you weren't the only ones who had to stay overnight at QF expense.

It sometimes surprises me that hotels like that have empty rooms for airlines to book pretty much at the last minute but there you go.

I know there were at least 8 people who were supposed to be on that Adelaide flight. I know Qantas wouldn't pay the rack rate for the hotel - I did actually check if they had any vacancies while I was in Wellington because I was hoping we'd get put there rather than some other trashy place or into the CBD

As per usual practice a delayed transcontinental 747 QF12 from JFK also delays the transpacific 380 QF12.
It’s past midight in LAX and QF12 is still there. Several passengers complaining on social media that their flight did not depart on time so as to pick up some disrupted passengers. Interestingly they were saying they were waiting for the passengers while onboard the Nancy Bird 380 QF12. What I don’t understand is that the delayed QF12 arrived in LAX a little after 2200hrs. Their post was at 2330. Should not take 1.5 hours to transfer aircraft at TBIT.
Maybe the disrupted passengers were from another flight? QF codeshare from another part of the country?

And as usual QF94 does not wait. In this case it’s the 787 which is turning around as QF93 after arrival in MEL
