Qantas Delays/Cancellations

On Sunday 8 April, QF693, the 1640 hours latish afternoon MEL to ADL (B738 VH-XZD) took off at 1741, so arrival is estimated as 1818 hours, 48 late.

On Saturday 6, QF2 (A388 VH-OQH, the 2115 hours LHR - SIN - SYD) departed at 2300 and took off at promptly 2315 despite a 2115 hours timetabled pushback time. SIN arrival is estimated to be 65 minutes late at 1830, meaning a delayed departure for SYD...

On Sunday 8 April, the delayed QF2 arrived in SIN at 1856 hours, 91 minutes late.

Flyerqf, you probably mean 'precedes' above.
Yes - thank you for the correction.

On another note, A380 OQF is due back from painting in DXB this coming Thursday.

OQB hasn’t flown for over a week so it’s possibly the next aircraft to get repainted into the new livery.

Flyerqf, with current rosters, how many A388s and B744s are required each day?

The A388 flights that quickly come to mind are QF1/2 daily; QF7/8 daily; QF11/12 daily except Tuesday; QF35/36 daily and QF93/94 daily. I count that as 10 aircraft required at maximum.

The B744 flights are QF15/16 transitioning to across USA QF11 and back QF12 daily; QF25/26 daily; QF27/28 4 days a week; QF63/64 6 days a week; QF73/74 6 days a week and QF127/128 daily.

I'm sure to have omitted something.

One variation is seasonal flights such as the B744s on QF75/76 SYD - YVR and back, but these do not operate as of today.

Correct 10 A380 aircraft can operate this schedule.

The B744 flights are QF15/16 transitioning to across USA QF11 and back QF12 daily; QF25/26 daily; QF27/28 4 days a week; QF63/64 6 days a week; QF73/74 6 days a week and QF127/128 daily.

That is all the 744 flights and this schedule uses 9 aircraft.

Tuesday 10 August 2017 sees QF29, the 0935 hours MEL - HKG predicted to depart 70 minutes behind time with HKG arrival 35 late at 1755 hours. HKG arrivals typically become busier from around 1730.

UPDATE: QF426, the 1100 hours morning MEL - SYD departed at 1147, taking off at 1202 with A32 VH-EBQ. rrival should be 44 minutes late at 1309 this afternoon.

QF29 was delayed more than predicted, pushing back 123 minutes late at 1138. HKG arrival is projected as 1830 hours, 70 minutes behind schedule.

Continuing with Tuesday 10 April 2018, QF577, the lunchtime 1255 hours SYD across to PER that took off at 1420 with A332 VH-EBQ should arrive 51 late at 1651.

Is this a designated connection to QF9 that departs PER at 1845 hours nightly at present?

The HNL - SYD QF4 (A333 VH-QPD) is arriving at 1915 hours, 125 minutes late. Yesterday this aircraft was only four minutes late arriving in HNL on QF3 at 0904 hours but its scheduled 1030 departure mid morning became a takeoff at 1257.

On Wednesday 11 April 2018, QF403 (0645 hours SYD down to MEL that took off about 10 minutes late at 0707 hours with B738 VH-XZO) was in an hold over Mt Buller, Vic. As a result, arrival should be at 0856, 36 minutes late. There had been a JQ flight return to MEL that has created some morning delays.

QF407 is worse, with this scheduled 0715 hours ex SYD not becoming airborne until 0829 hours. VH-VXD should arrive in MEL at roughly 0953, 63 minutes late.

The 0730 hours southbound, QF411 (A332 VH-EBC) was airborne at 0839 with MEL arrival suggested as 1003 hours, 58 minutes behind time.

In the opposite direction, QF414 (A332 VH-EBR), the 0800 hours MEL up to SYD did not take off until 0852, about 35 - 40 late.

A333 VH-QPJ on the redeye from PVG, QF130, looks to be arriving in a busy SYD at 0906, 41 minutes behind schedule.

In further on 11 April, the 1155 hours MEL - SIN (QF35) departed 46 minutes late. Arrival is predicted at 1828 hours, 33 late.

QF10 has generally been punctual departing LHR since its introduction and often arrives early in PER, so perhaps the timetable could become a bit faster,

However on Wednesday 11 April 2018, it is expected to depart LHR an hour late at 1415.

The 2355 hours Tuesday 10 QF96 from LAX departed at 0059 on Wednesday 11, so Thursday 12 arrival is estimated as 0905 hours, 40 minutes behind schedule.

Earlier on 11 April, longhaul QF27 from SYD departed 55 minutes late at 1230 so SCL arrival is predicted as 1205, 55 late. This will delay the returning QF28 in its pushing back.

Also on Thursday 12 August, QF93, the 0900 hours MEL - LAX took off at 0952 with arrival suggested as 0705, 40 late.

Thursday's QF11 is expected to depart LAX at 0855, 35 late but only be 25 minutes behind time in JFK, arriving at an estimated 1705 hours. As QF11 ex SYD and QF15 ex BNE are not late, this is likely to be because 'the 93' is delayed.

On some previous occasions when 'the 11' or 93 have been late, JFK-bound passengers have been placed on AA codeshare flights due to the imperative to keep QF15-QF11-QF12-QF16 punctual. However this delay isn't a huge one, and often 'the 12' across transcon USA picks up time on a complete journey basis.

Continuing with Thursday 12 August 2018, QF9, the 1515 hours MEL - PER - LHR departed the first named 36 minutes late. Ut arrived PER at 1738 hours, 23 late and is showing as departing 25 late at 1910 (but may given past observations be able to sneak out a little earlier) with LHR arrival on Friday 13 suggested as 0535, half an hour behind.

In the last few days, QF9 has generally been a few minutes late arriving in LHR.

It would be fascinating to know what numbers are using it (and QF10) as 'locals' between MEL and PER compared to through passengers MEL - LHR or v.v. and the third category, stopover passengers who reboard QF9 (or 'the 10' in the opposite direction) after a day or more in lovely PER. There might not be many in the last category as they can use numerous domestic flights as an alternative.

Wednesday 11 April's QF10 that was advised as an hour late became a 1525 hours pushing back at LHR, which was 130 minutes behind the timetable.

It arrived PER at 1504 late, 124 minutes late. Many other QF10s have gained time on an airport-to airport (gate) basis but not this one. It then departed PER on Thursday 12 at 1633, 123 minutes late for projected MEL arrival at 2156 hours tonight, 121 late.

As a result, QF95 from MEL to LAX is predicted to depart at 2330 hours, 110 late and arrive LAX same day at 2035 hours in the evening, 95 minutes tardy. In theory it should then be on time in departing LAX on 12 April at 2355 i.e. just before midnight local time.

One or two scoffed when I said a while back there'd be delays from the new schedules. Admittedly it hasn't happened much south and east bound yet (i.e. LHR - PER - MEL - LAX) but one wonders how often it will occur once the media eye is off these new flights.

On Friday 13 April, QF16 from LAX to BNE should arrive at 0645 hours, 40 late despite only departing on Wednesday 11 at 2340 hours, 20 minutes past the schedule requirement.

Thursday 12 April 2018's delayed QF95 departed MEL at 2354 hours (134 minutes late.) LAX arrival is predicted as 2115 hours, 135 late, but in theory in sufficient time for the 2355 hours returning QF96 to still depart on time.

Is the timetabled margin at LAX (normally at this time of year 1905 hours to 2355) used to undertake a little 'light' maintenance, or does the aircraft simply get towed to a position to stable and then at say 2200 proceeds to its departure gate having just sat at LAX?

LAWA doesn't allow an aircraft to sit at a gate for more than 3 hours so it does have to be towed. It would go to the QF hanger and no doubt some maintenance carried out.

The Monday QF95 also has a scheduled night stop in LAX at the hanger as well.

On Thursday 12 April, QF30 (A333 VH-QPH) did not depart HKG until 2238 hours, 148 minutes past the schedule, so MEL Friday 13 arrival is estimated at 0952, 142 late.

QF29 on Friday is expected to depart at 1200 'high noon' rather than 0935 for a HKG arrival at an estimated 1930, 130 late.

The delays are because yesterday's QF80 arrival in MEL diverted to SYD - medical? - and so QF29 on 12 April did not depart until just before 1400 hours.

QF23, the often delayed SYD - BKK 0950 hours daily has become a projected 1020 hours departure on 13 April.

In further on Friday 13 April, QF7, the 1235 very long flight from SYD to DFW departed 57 minutes late with arrival forecast as 1340 hours same day, 40 minutes tardy.

QF73 (1245 hours SYD - SFO B744) was similar in departing 56 late at 1341 for an expected 0954 hours, 49 minutes late arrival same day.

'The 23' won't arrive BKK until at least 1720, 40 late as it was off blocks in SYD at 1029, 39 late.

The morning MEL - NRT QF79 was only 18 minutes late in pushing back but suggested arrival has become 1915, 40 minutes behind schedule.

The A388 on QF1 is expected to depart SYD 95 minutes late at 1730 hours. Anticipated SIN arrival is 2340 hours, 85 late.

QF81, the 1015 hours morning SYD - SIn A332 on Saturday 14 April has been cancelled.

UPDATE: QF1 departed exactly as suggested at 1730 hours. The intermediate SIN stop should be 2340 to 0105 on Saturday 14 (the latter being 70 late) with LHR arrival suggested as 0810- hours, 75 late.

Also on 13 April, QF496 with B738 VH-VXO took off from MEL at 1857, about an hour late. SYD arrival should be at roughly 2004 hours, 54 late.

Although QF10 from LHR only arrived four minutes late in PER this afternoon at 1304 hours, the scheduled 1430 hours continuation did not depart until 1525. This is the second consecutive day that the latter has been late. MEL arrival is forecast to be 2056 hours, 61 minutes late which will again see QF95, the 2140 hours MEL long flight to LAX depart past the allotted, at a suggested 2215 hours for a same day arrival in the movie capital at 1935, 35 minutes late.

Speaking of yesterday's QF95, it arrived LAX at 2116 with the return B789 on 'the 96' departing at 0038 this morning, 43 minutes late. Saturday 14 April MEL arrival is likely at 0905 hours, 40 minutes tardy.

Thursday 12's eponymous QF12 departed LAX at 2300 hours, an even half hour late; Saturday 14 arrival in SYD should be at 0725 hours, 55 minutes past what the timetable states. 'The 16' departed 49 late at 0009 for a BNE Saturday suggested at gate time of 0700 hours, also 55 minutes late. Neither of these delays should result in late A388 departures ex SYD tomorrow - that's the theory anyway.

Forecast delay to QF95 on Friday 13 April ex MEL has extended to an hour: 2240.

QF701, the 2030 hours mid evening MEL - ADL took off at 2200, B738 VH-VYA having this task. Arrival is set for 2236 hours, 66 minutes past the schedule.
