In further on Sunday 8 April 2018, QF27 (B744 VH-OEH), the 1135 hours late morning SYD long flight across to SCL did not depart until 1310. Arrival should be 57 late at 1207 hours, same day. QF28 back to SYD will therefore be delayed.
A little earlier, QF63 (1055 hours SYD - JNB, also a B744 - VH-OEB) pushed back at 1201. Expected South African arrival is 1759, 59 late. QF64 will also be late departing for the long trip back to SYD.
QF73 (VH-OEJ) departed at 1347, 62 late with SFO arrival estimated at 0946 hours, 41 late.
It's not good on one day to have three outbound delays affecting B744 departures. On the last six recorded flights (FR24 is missing one), QF63 has been at least 20 minutes late every time, with two delays of at least 59 minutes.
VH-OEB 'Philip Island' is the oldest of QF's remaining 10 B744s, and will celebrate its 20th birthday on 29 May 2018. Good maintenance is the key, not age per se, but surely 20 is approaching fairly old for a widebody mainline aircraft that is now regarded as a 'fuel guzzler' compared to say the B789s on a per passenger basis.
