Qantas Delays/Cancellations

...TBIT terminal, from memory has at least 3 gates out of action as well. Therefore the QF96 is usually given a remote bay for boarding. This usually comes with its own set of issues given the distance from the terminal, the time it takes to get passengers to the bay, lack of buses (only 1 was allocated to the flight the other day)...

milehighclub, huge thanks: great post. Nothing beats a lady on-the-spot.

From observation around the world on the minority of times I've been 'bussed'. most of these buses seem to hold about 50 -70 passengers. Because so many have a backpack or rollaboard with them and a few have dutyfree, the buses certainly cannot hold four to six persons per square metre that is the standard for some metros (trains) around the world.

One would hope QF complained to the Los Angeles airport authority about just one bus being allocated. If there were say 220 passengers on board, it would have to do at least three trips before the aircraft was fully boarded. I assume as always the staff would all be on board prior to any passengers boarding, and be transported many minutes earlier so pre-flight checks and the catering among other tasks could be sorted out.

Think of the waste of time waiting for a single bus to undertake multiple trips between the terminal and aircraft at a remote stand. Mind boggling.

There are both runway/taxi works. TBIT terminal, from memory has at least 3 gates out of action as well.
TBIT has 2 gates out of action for works relating to the TBIT midfield concourse construction with the entire gate area and apron up to the taxiway. The QF flights tend to use the gates around those closed gates.
IIRC, the closed gates (as of July 4 weekend) were 130 and 134 while QF tends to use 148, 150 and 152 https://www.flylax.com/-/media/flyl...hash=42F54B3C850C15AD7104D6C002629AA2BB11E964

Continuing with Friday 27 July 2018, QF1550, the 1720 hours CBR up to BNE (B717 VH-NXQ) took off at 1815 tonight with suggested arrival at 1950, 50 minutes tardy.

On Friday 27 July, QF19 arrived MNL at 2013, 103 late, losing time on the trip after departing SYD 84 late. QF20 is showing as departing at 2100 but that would be surprising as minimum turnaround for a plane of this size seems to be, from observation, about 70 minutes.

Saturday 28 July 2018 finds QF130, the redeye from PVG down to SYD (A333 VH-QPE) suggested as arriving at 0949 hours, 79 late.

The delayed ex MNL QF20 earlier arrived SYD at 0819, 129 late.

QF814 (B738 VH-VXT, the 0830 hours MEL - CBR that took off at 0929 should arrive at 1024, 49 minutes tardy.

Southbound SYD - MEL QF415, the 0800 hours, was airborne at 0857. A332 VH-EBJ should arrive at 1012, 37 late.

QF129 (0930 hours SYD - PVG) has been altered to depart at 1300 this afternoon, so arrival shpould be at 2145 tonight, 200 minutes late, delaying the returning QF130 to at least 2300 in its redeye push back.

The 1015 hours SYD - KIX, QF33, is forecast to depart an hour late.

Friday 27's QF10 departed LHR 50 late at 1405 so arrival on Saturday 28 in PER is estimated at 1351, 51 late. In turn, this will delay the onward 1430 hours sector to MEL and probably QF95, the 2140 hours MEL - LAX tonight.

In further on 28 July, QF7, which was earlier predicted as on time, did not depart SYD until 1531, 166 late, taking off at 1550 hours. DFW arrival (same day) for A388 VH-OQJ ought be 1540, 160 late.

The BNE up to SIN is normally timely but today it departed (as QF51) 75 late at 1315 with arrival suggested as 1920 hours tonight, 65 late.

The 1210 hours SYD - PEK (QF107) was off blocks at 1300 hours with predicted arrival tonight at 2250, 35 late meaning a slight delay to the scheduled 2345 hours redeye back down to SYD, QF108.

QF434 (1300 hours MEL - SYD, A332 VH-EBD) was in the air at 1505 mid afternoon so arrival has become 1607 hours, 102 late.

Also on Saturday 28 July 2018, QF1, the flagship 1555 hours from SYD has been altered to depart at 1920 hours, 205 late. The SIN stop has altered to a predicted 0145 to 0305 on Sunday (the latter would be 190 late, while 80 minutes is a fast intermediate stop) and LHR arrioval on Sunday 29 at 1000, 185 late.

The delayed QF2 from LHR was in PER on Saturday from 1340 to 1508 with forecast MEL arrival at 2025, half an hour behind. This will slightly delay the onwards QF95 to LAX, the 2140 hours.

QF129 departed SYD later than the 1300 hours predicted, with push back at 1353 being 263 late. PVG arrival should be at 2245 hours, 260 late, so QF130 is unlikely to depart much before midnight mainland Chinese time.

On Sunday 29 July 2018, the LAX - MEL QF96 has B789 VH-ZND and should arrive 56 minutes tardy at 0921 hours.

B744 VH-OEI on QF16 ex LAX is arriving in BNE at a forecast 0822, 137 late, making it difficult for QF15, the 1010 hours back to LAX to depart on time.

The LAX - SYD QF12 has A388 VH-OQB and is similarly delayed with arrival suggested as 124 minutes tardy at 0834 hour. This should not affect any outbound flights as the SYD arriving A380s have more generous turnarounds than the B744 up in BNE.

Saturday 28 July's delayed QF1 that departed SYD at 1917 was in SIN on Sunday 29 from 0135 to 0318 with LHR arrival estimated at 0930 hours, 155 late.

QF2 on Sunday 29 arrived in SYD at 0556, 46 late.

Saturday 28's QF2 departed LHR 61 minutes late at 2216 - quite unusual. SIN arrival on Sunday 29 is estimated as 1820 hours, 55 late.

A333 VH-QPA is on Sunday 29's QF129 (0930 hours SYD up to PVG) that pushed back at 0953, but arrival is not expected until 1857 tonight, 32 late.

In further on Sunday 29 July, the frequently delayed QF23 (A333 VH-QPE) departed 55 late at 1045 hours, but at 1104 had four aircraft ahead of it on runway 34L. It took off at 1117 hours with arrival suggested at 1715 hours, 35 late.

QF79 from MEL up to NRT was 39 minutes tardy in pushing back at 0949, delaying suggested arrival tonight until 1918, 43 late.

The 1035 hours SYD - HKG (QF117) is predicted to push back 40 late.

QF581 (1030 hours SYD - PER that pushed back at 1101, taking off at 114 hours) should arrive at 1406, 36 late. Aircraft is A333 VH-QPC, at face value a surprising use of an A333 when its extra comfort would be appreciated on international flights.

The 1055 hours mid morning B744 long haul, QF63 from SYD across to JNB should depart an hour late with arrival at 1805, 65 late.

QF107 from SYD to PEKL is suggested as departing 75 late with arrival tonight a predicted 55 minutes behind schedule at 2310. This will delay the 2345 hours redeye, QF108 back down to Sydney.

Continuing with Sunday 29 July 2018, QF127 (1035 hours SYD - HKG) commenced its journey at 1159. Anticipated arrival has become 1915 hours, 75 late. The aircraft had arrived this morning on QF128 (ex HKG) at 07128 hours, 23 late so plenty of time to 'reverse' it in SYD. The Sunday night QF128 ex HKG will be unable to depart on time.

QF63 left SYD at 1205, 70 late with JNB arrival at 1741 forecast to be a little better than QF has earlier estimated.

The 1210 hours SYD - MNL continues to be late most days with Sunday's pushing back commencing at 1306. Arrival should be 55 late at 1925, delaying redeye QF20 tonight.

QF107 (A332 VH-EBG - six days since it had been on this flight), the SYD - PEK flight departed 81 late at 1331 with arrival said to be 2307 hours tonight, 52 late.

A333 VH-QPE arrived BKK on QF23 (Sunday 29 July) at 1817 hours, 97 late so naturally QF24 on Monday 30 is late, with arrival expected at 0757, 92 late.

QF20 from MNL to SYD had A332 VH-EBR and arrived at 0703, 53 late.

The 0810 hours morning SYD short hop down to CBR, QF1513 (B717 VH-NXE) was still taxiing at 0903 so is set to still be on the ground when it should have arrived in CBR. No wonder so many now take the NSWTrainLink train or Greyhound/Murrays buses.

In further on Monday 30 July, although QF80 was early arriving in MEL this morning ex NRT and the HKG - MEL QF30 was only 11 minutes late, QF79 (0910 hours MEL back up to NRT) is not expected to depart until 1115 hours, with arrival at 2010, 95 late tonight. This will result in either QF80 or QF62, the redeyes to MEL and BNE respectively being delayed overnight.

The 0930 hours SYD - PVG, QF129 is predicted to depart 40 late.

The closely following departing QF11, the 0935 hours should depart an hour late for LAX.

QF41 is normally punctual departing SYD and often early arriving at CGK, but on 30 July is forecast to depart 65 late at 1450 this afternoon.

Sunday 29's QF27 departed SYD at 1353, 78 minutes tardy, arriving SCL at 1237, 87 late. QF28 then pushed back in SCL at 1452, 82 minutes behind schedule meaning a predicted Monday 30 SYD arrival at 1900 hours tonight, 70 minutes late.

Was on QF627 yesterday and we were 30 min late to depart due to weather in Melbourne (what a surprise), then on holding pattern due to winds. Landed 30 min late.

Continuing with Monday 30 July 2018, QF129 (A333 VH-VPE) departed at 1021 and took off at 1050, the latter 80 minutes after its scheduled departure, so arrival tonight should be at 1913, 48 minutes behind schedule.

Delayed QF79 with A333 VH-QPI pushed back in MEL at 1106, 116 minutes late but nine minutes earlier than predicted. Arrival should be 79 late at 1954 tonight.

A332 VH-EBS is on QF81, the 1015 hours SYD - SIN that was in the sky at 1118. Expected at gate time in Changi is 720, half an hour behind schedule.

QF127, the 1035 hours mid morning SYD - HKG has A388 VH-OQJ. Pushback was at 1120 and takeoff was at 1144 hours, so arrival tonight should be around the 1830 mark, half an hour behind schedule.

The thrice weekly QG33 (1015 hours SYD - KIX, class leader A333 VH-QPA) did not commence pushback until 1122, and was in the sky at 1147. It should arrive at the allocated airport gate in KIX at 2026, 76 late. QF34 back overnight to SYD will be delayed as it is not possible to turn an aircraft around in 14 minutes.

The B744 on QF63 (1050 SYD - JNB) has been altered to depart at 1150 but the delay is longer.

QF107 has been put back to an estimated 1315 out of SYD, 65 late on its PEK-bound odyssey while identically timed departure QF19 to MNL should at this stage depart 20 late. Neither of these flights have had a great punctuality record lately.

In more on Monday 30 July, QF63 departed SYD 69 late at 1204 hours, taking off at 1223. It should be at its destination gate at 1810, 70 late. This will delay the returning QF64.

QF616 (the 1205 hours MEL up to BNE that took off at 1257, B738 VH-XZD) should arrive at 1457 this afternoon, 42 late.

...QF41 is normally punctual departing SYD and often early arriving at CGK, but on 30 July is forecast to depart 65 late at 1450 this afternoon.
...

The FR24 site indicates that A332 VH-EBP was originally meant to be on QF41, but it has been switched to QF433, the 1230 hours SYD down to MEL that pushed back at 1253 but was still taxiing at 1322.

It took off at 1325, so arrival in MEL will be at least half an hour late (although QF computer says '1414' - impossible).

QF35 (A388 VH-OQG) is the 1155 hours MEL - SIN that does not often run late as it is formed by QF94 ex LAX and hence has a decent amount of turnaround time. However on 30 July it took off at 1305 hours so arrival is predicted as 40 minutes late at 1835 early this evening.

A332 VH-EBL, one of the usual two planes for QF107 departed SYD as that 65 late at 1315 hours.

UPDATE: QF has changed the predicted arrival of QF433 to 1440, 35 late: realistic. It subsequently altered to 1448.

QF7,. the 1235 hours SYD - DFW A388 departed 62 late with suggested same ay arrival 35 late at 1335 hours.

The projected delay to the SYD - CGK QF41 has extended to 1505 hours, 80 late, so QF42 (the redeye back down to SYD) will be delayed a little more.

QF704 (MEL to CNS) has B738 VH-XZH and should arrive in the 'capital' of FNQ (sorry Townsvillians) at 1651 hours, 31 minutes behind schedule.

I omitted previously how the Sunday 29 July 2018 QF10 did not depart LHR until 1438 hours, 73 late, arriving PER on Monday 30 at 1413, also as luck would have it 73 minutes tardy.

The flight then left for MEL at 1549, 79 late and should be at the latter allocated international gate at 2057 tonight, 62 minutes late.

The 2140 hours MEL - LAX will depart at least 35 late at 2215 but my guess is it will be later. One AFFer - may have been milehighclub or Himeno - said months ago that delays like this would not occur. They have, though not frequently. It will be very interesting to see if they worsen during the 'northern winter' as these flights have yet to experience that period of a year.

(If Himeno or milehighclub didn't say that, my advance apologies. AFF is too hard to search to find the quote).
