Qantas Delays/Cancellations

In further re Friday 17 August 2018, QF63 (B744) departed SYD at 1321 (146 late) with suggested JNB arrival as 2005 tonight local time, 185 late. This will delay QF64, the redeye back from JNB from its timetabled 1910 hours departure to around the 2200 hours mark. SYD arrival on Saturday 18 is likely at 1750, 175 minutes behind the timetable. Sometimes this arrival forms QF25 to HND ex SYD.

Saturday 18 August 2018 has QF2 from SIN to SYD (A388 VH-OQA) arriving at 0611, 61 late.

The next SIN - SYD, QF82 has VH-OQD and should arrive at 0905 hours, 125 late. QF81 had arrived SIN yesterday only four minutes late at 1654 but 'the 82' did not take off until 2341 despite a timetabled departure of 2110 hours.

Continuing with Saturday 18 August 2018, QF63 (1055 hours SYD across to JNB, B744 VH-OEJ) departed at 1141 so arrival is predicted for 1740 this afternoon local time, 40 minutes down. This will slightly delay the redeye QF64 back to SYD.

In the other direction, due to yesterday's QF63 (B744 VH-OEH) being worse, QF64 departed JNB on Friday night at 2155 (165 late) with SYD Saturday arrival forecast for 1631, 96 minutes late.

QF2 into SYD on Saturday arrived at 0622, 72 late.

QF11 (0935 hours morning flight SYD - LAX) is often punctual but on Saturday it was not off blocks until 1057, meaning likely arrival same day at 0707 hours, 47 late. This may slightly delay the ex-QF15 (on time) B744 that runs across to JFK as QF11 at 0820 hours ex Movie City.

The thrice weekly QF33 (1015 hours SYD up to KIX) has been delayed until 1215, so arrival should be at around 2045 hours this evening, 95 minutes tardy.

QF19D, a day late due to the MF runway excursion at MNL at 2356 hours local time on Thursday 16 August, has departed SYD at 1213 hours on Saturday 18 August with A332 VH-EBR.

The Saturday "proper" QF19 has VH-EBP and departed at 1223 hours, 13 minutes late.

The MNL main runway is apparently reopening at 1200 'high noon' local time on Saturday, having been closed for 36 hours. Lots of flights up there are three hours late, unsurprisingly.

Great update Doctor. As always, much appreciated, especially ince the QF website suggests that the Friday 17 August QF96 from LAX to MEL will depart at 0020 hours on Saturday 18, only a 25 minute delay. You obviously have more up to date information from what I assume is your on-the-spot reporting.

Quite often it's surprising that there's the spare seats to enable this to occur to any extent. But it isn't school holidays, so perhaps 'the 94' was only 75 to 80 per cent full.

If the delay is as you suggest, that may mean a delayed departure for QF9, the 1515 hours MEL - PER - LHR B789 on Sunday. The aircraft in LAX appears to be B789 VH-ZNA. However the newest in the fleet, VH-ZNE is still on MEL - BNE rotations so if there's a problem and it's certified and able to operate the QF9, it may be able to substitute tomorrow.

Have family member at LAX who was on QF96 called to desk in lounge to be told has been moved onto 94 due to 96 being delayed to 0800 tomorrow!

But email updates still saying 0020

docjames, not unusual. Sometimes the QF software does not alter flight times until after the previous sector has taken off. In this case that doesn't apply but it may still be a while before the website and other devices are altered to the new time.

On the spot report:

There has been no announcement about any delays on any flight interestingly the Brisbane plane 0145 instead of 2320 the Sydney plane is 0040 instead of 2359 but the two Melbourne planes are showing on time at 2240 and 2355. Melbourne has two flights the other cities one

QF94 now going. Latest update in lounge still saying 25m delay to 96 - not sure what’s going on but perhaps whatever the issue was with 96 was resolved?

In more on Saturday 18 August 2018, QF117 (1420 hours afternoon SYD - HKG) departed at 1506, so expected arrival is half an hour behind at 2230 hours late this evening.

Interesting. The 96 left 70m late. Not sure why the contrary info - on QF will ever know I guess.

Also on Friday 17 August, QF16, the scheduled late night 2320 hours did not depart until 0145 hours on Saturday 18. Sunday 19 BNE arrival should be at 0757 hours, 107 minutes behind time. This should however be sufficient for the 1010 hours QF15 back to LAX to depart on time.

'The 12' was worse with this 2230 hours LAX - SYD commencing pushback at 0136 for a suggested Sunday 0858 hours arrival, 148 late.

On Saturday 18 August, the overnight delayed QF19D arrived MNL at 1918 hours.

QF19, due to arrive at 1830, was still in a holding pattern south of MNL at 1920.

QF20 has been altered to depart MNL at 2130, 90 late on 18 August (this is the scheduled one for Saturday, not the delayed Friday pne).

The 0950 hours SYD - BKK, QF23 arrived at 1733, 43 late. QF24 is showing as departing at 1830 (only 20 minutes late) but that time has passed.

UPDATE: QF24 departed BKK at 1915, 65 late. Sunday 19 arrival in SYD should be at 0729 hours, 64 late.

Earlier, QF581, the 1025 hours SYD - PER was cancelled with the aircraft A332 VH-EBP instead used on QF19 to MNL that should arrive at about 2055, 145 late.

QF10 A332 VH-EBP) landed in MNL at 2049 hours compared to scheduled at gate arrival of 1830. It was in a holding pattern for among the longest time observed.

QF20, the 2000 hours MNL - SYD is expected to depart at 2220.

I can't find any reference to there ever being an issue with the 96. As far as I can tell, the crew were never going at 0800. They do seem to have been delayed somewhat for the 12 from NYC, as was the 380 to Sydney.

As to why the Melbourne 380 normally departs without waiting....the main issue is that of crew hours. Unless they've been held at the hotel, their CASA clock has started. A two hour delay can potentially become quite messy. If a combination of bringing passengers forward from the 96, and transferring the 94's passengers from NYC onto the 96 (and others) works, then the aircraft generally doesn't wait. A longer delay might have to be handled by diverting the aircraft to replace the crew.

Saturday 18 August's QF20 ((A332 VH-EBR) did not depart MNL until 0041 on Sunday 19, 281 minutes late, so SYD expected arrival is 1132 hours, 262 late.

Although QF20D from Friday night (17 August) was expected to instead depart at 0800 this morning (Sunday 19), it has been put back to 2000 this evening for an 0615 hours arrival in SYD on Monday 20. This is presumably due to a combination of minimum crew rest hours after QF19D operated as a day flight yesterday, and the SYD curfew.

On Sunday 19 August 2018, QF129, the 0930 hours from SYD to PVG departed at 1039 with arrival suggested at 1917 tonight, 52 late.

QF63 (SYD across to JNB) should depart 50 minutes late at 1145 hours.

The 0905 hours BNE - SYD, QF1713 (B717 VH-NXQ) took off at 11616 so anticipated arrival is 1234 hours, 114 late.

As previously noted, QF16 arrived BNE late this morning. It turned out that QF15 was delayed, departing at 1102 (52 minutes behind schedule) so LAX arrival will be at 0630 hours, half an hour tardy.

The usually timely QF41 from SYD up to CGK is predicted to depart 35 late at 1420 hours on Sunday 19.

With as at 1200 'high noon' on Sunday 19 August SYD down to a single runway, the east-west, delays are extensive with QF127 being much later than QF had earlier expected. B744 VH-OEB departed at 1128 but did not take off until 1205 so arrival should be at 1843, 43 late.

The ADL across to SYD QF738 (B738 VH-VXF) arrived at 1216 hours, 41 late.

QF517 (B738 VH-VYK, the 1005 hours BNE down to SYD that was airborne about 10 minutes late at 1029) is arriving at 1242, 62 minutes tardy. It was in a holding pattern in the usual spot west of Pokolbin NSW.

B738 ZK-ZQG on QF145 (1145 hours SYD across to AKL) took off at 1223 so arrival should be at 176 hours, 36 late.

Continuing with a wet and windy Sunday 19 August 2018 in Melbourne and down to a single runway in Sydney, QF424 (A332 VH-EBE, the scheduled 1030 hours MEL up to SYD that took off at 1155) should arrive at 1256, 61 late.

The following QF426, the 1100 ex MEL has B738 VH-VZJ and should arrive at 1327 hours, 62 late in SYD.

QF63 (B744 VH-OEF) took off at about 1249 from SYD (after pushing back at 1233) so is later than had been predicted. An 1829 hours arrival at JNB should be the result (89 late), meaning that the 1910 hours overnight QF64 back to SYD will be unlikely to be off its blocks until at least 2015 tonight local South African time.

QF19 (1210 hours SYD - MNL) was this morning showing as punctual but not long ago this was amended to an expected 50 minute tardy anticipated departure at 1300 hours, with arrival optimistically suggested as 1915, 45 late.

The 1035 hours BNE down to SYD, QF519, took off at 1204 hours with B738 VH-XZB and should arrive at 1321 hours, 71 late.

QF430 (1200 'high noon' MEL up to SYD, B738 VH-VXL) was in the sky at 1316 so arrival should be at 1431 hours, 66 late.

In more on Sunday 19 August 2018, QF27 (1135 hours SYD - SCL long flight) commenced its pushing back at 1214, meaning same day suggested arrival at 1154 hours, 44 late.

The BNE - CBR QF1547 has B717 VH-YQU and should arrive at 1421 hours, 31 late.

QF7 (1235 hours long flight to DFW ex SYD) was off blocks at 1321 despite earlier displaying as punctual. Arrival same day should be 55 late at 1355 hours.

The delayed 1210 hours SYD - MNL (QF19) pushed back at 1325. Arrival is forecast as 1932, 62 late.

QF431 (1200 'high noon') SYD down to MEL has A332 VH-EBN and was airborne at 1330, so arrival after 1435 should be expected, compared with the timetable stating '1335.'
