Qantas Delays/Cancellations

On 31 December 2018, the PER across to SYD QF580 (A332 VH-EBB) is also caught up in the Sydney storms, with it in a hold until about 1907. Arrival will be at 1920 or later, so at least 40 late arriving at the gate in Sydney. As at 1910 there looked to be extremely heavy rain over teh Sydney CBD and airport so don't discount further delays (or, in a worst case, a dreaded diversion).

B738 VH-VZE on QF1016, the 1750 hours HBA - MEL was in the sky at 1850 so arrival is at 1956 hours, 51 late.

Outbound delays are occurring from SYD due to the early evening Monday 31 Dec ember 2018 storms. QF1585 (B717 VH-YQX), the 1855 hours SYD down to HBA was in the sky at 2000, about 50 late. Arrival should be at 2144, 54 minutes behind schedule.

B744 VH-OEJ, the 1915 hours SYD - YVR seasonal flight (QF75) took off at 2033 so same day arrival is predicted at 1451, 46 minutes behind the schedule.

QF868 (B738 VH-VXD, the 1820 hours early evening SYD up to party city OOL) was in the sky at a much delayed 2038, so arrival should be 2044, 119 late.

QF 71 arriving into Singapore about an hour late. Will delay my QF72 to Perth.
jb747's QF36 also likely delayed as QF35 is about 50 late.
Lots of rain in SIN today

Yes, QF35 (A380 VH-OQG) is arriving at about 1751, 46 late. In theory this is sufficient time to turn around for a punctual departure of QF36 at 1940 back down to MEL, but you're correct: this doesn't always occur in such circumstances.

QF2 (VH-OQE) was basically on time ex LHR but is delayed as at 1753 SIN time, it was in a holding pattern.

UPDATE: QF2 was significantly delayed but landed at 1821 so should be about 41 late at the gate. This will delay its onward sector down to SYD.

Continuing with 31 December, although SYD (airport) has only had 5mm of rain this evening thus far, airlines have still been disrupted as the storms did a fair job of almost enveloping Sydney at various times.

It's no surprise that SYD to PER evening flights are delayed with QF583 (1955 hours departure) not airborne until 2129. Arrival is suggested as 2303, 68 late for A332 VH-EBB.

Yet more on 31 December 2018 sees QF83, the 1840 hours SYD - SIN taking off at 2004 with A333 VH-QPH. Arrival should be at 0048 on 1 January 2019, 53 minutes tardy.

The overnight delayed QF25 arrived HND at 2223 hours on Monday 31 December, with the return QF26 pushing back at 2356 hours, so very much a minimum turnaround of 93 minutes, among the fastest observed for a B744 or A388 with QF. On Tuesday 1 January 2019, SYD arrival should be 1112 hours, 97 late for B744 VH-OJS.

The special Antarctica sightseeing flight arrived back in MEL (VH-OEI) on New Year's Day at 0646, so all up it was a gate-to-gate excursion of about 13 hours.

Having been delayed by holding into SIN as above, QF2 arrived SYD on New Year's Day 2019 at 0727 hours, 72 late, as it did not depart Lion City until 2026 on New Year's Eve, 71 late.

QF416, QF424 and QF426, the 0830, 1030 and 1100 hours MEL - SYD have been cancelled. This may be a result of the Sydney storms late yesterday afternoon, into the evening, and flight/cabin crews being out of position.

Southbound, QF417 (0830 hours SYD - MEL) has also got the boot while QF415, the 0800 hours did not take off until 0850, so MEL arrival for B738 VH-XZL is estimated at 1008, 33 minutes tardy.

The final QF11 transcontinental flight from JFK to LAX for 2018 - 31 December's - departed 21 late with a 2130 hours, 35 late arrival expected. This may slightly delay QF12 and QF16 to SYD and BNE respectively.

Long haul QF7, the 1440 hours SYD - DFW (A388 VH-OQC) has been altered to depart at 1700 with arrival on the same day estimated as 1505 hours, 125 late. Missed connections loom.

QF33 is another delayed QFi flight on New Year's Day 2019. This 0930 hours scheduled SYD - KIX pushed back at 1505, 335 minutes late with arrival estimated as 2235 late tonight, 305 late. The 1900 hours KIX back down to SYD redeye should depart at 2350 with Wednesday 2 suggested arrival at 1135, 290 minutes tardy.

The aircraft, VH-QPE appears to have substituted for another as it arrived in SYD at 1247, eight minutes early on QF574 ex PER and would then have had to be placed at an international gate. At present this QF33 flight alternates between an A332 and A333 so not sure which aircraft had failed this morning. It is unusual for QF33/QF34 to run badly late.

On 1 January 2019, QF117 (1550 hours SYD up to HKG) was 85 minutes late pushing back and then took off at 1733, so estimated arrival has become 2319 hours, 64 minutes behind schedule. A332 VH-EBV has the honours for the second consecutive day. It arrived in SYD this morning at 1156 hours, nine early on QF118 ex HKG, so not sure why 'the 117' was tardy departing this afternoon.

Due to the delayed QF117 above (that arrived HKG at 2307 hours, 52 late on 1 January), QF118 departed HKG at 0034 on Wednesday 2 January (59 minutes late) with SYD arrival this afternoon at 1248 hours, 43 late. A332 VH-EBV remains the aircraft.

Later on 2 January, QF107, the 1335 hours afternoon SYD up to PEK is estimated to depart 40 minutes late.

QF93, the 1055 hours MEL - LAX departed at 1242 hours, so arrival is delayed until 0807, 102 minutes tardy. Sometimes in the past when this has occurred, QF11 is not held in LAX so ex-MEL passengers are placed on later AA JFK-bound flights if and when there are spare seats. QF15 today ex BNE is expected to arrive LAX 15 minutes early while QF11's A388 ex SYD is a predicted 17 late, a long way short of 102 late.

QF35 is again late, with today's 1220 hours lunchtime scheduled MEL - SIN forecast to depart 70 late. QF94 arrived in MEL 52 minutes early at 0858, but unusually was B789 VH-ZNC. (QF93 on 31 December ex MEL had also been a B789, VH-ZNA).

I read the Australian is reporting today there was “chaos” at SYD yesterday (Jan 2) due to Fog.

I didn’t think it was a problem. The article did not mention QF particularly - only VA. Might be some passengers complaining from T2

The article was written yesterday and posted online at the Daily Telegraph website at 1626 hours. It only covered the Virgin terminal. As you suggest, no mention of Qantas:

I have posted its link in the VA delays/cancellations thread.

On Thursday 3 January 2019, QF24, the 1800 hours 2 January BKK to SYD that was airborne at 0902 is arriving at 0842, 72 late according to the QF website, although FR24 shows the aircraft's position as suggesting it may arrive a little before that. Yesterday QF23 arrived in BKK 11 early at 1559, so in theory there was plenty of time to turn around for a punctual departure. A333 VH-QPJ is the aircraft.

I was busy at work and in holiday mode at the same time.
Completely misses SYD had “WX:FG” yesterday morning 2Jan2019
Seems like it did not significantly affect QF.
The FG dispersed by around 0715 - a benefit of daylight saving as it causes the sun to rise earlier in the day.:p

On Thursday 3 January 2019, QF61 (0920 hours morning BNE - NRT) was only 12 minutes tardy off blocks, but arrive is delayed until an expected 1812 early this evening, 42 late. A333 VH-QPF has the task.

Colleague VH-QPA on the notorious for delays QF23, the 1030 hours midmorning SYD up to BKK was airborne at 1123 so arrival at 1642, 32 late is expected. This should not seriously delay the overnight redeye QF24 back down to SYD.

A388 on VH-OQG, the 0930 hours SYD to HKG was in the sky at 1033 with suggested arrival at 1620, half an hour behind schedule. This aircraft was faced with an impossible turnaround, even though it arrived in SYD this morning 29 minutes early at 0806 on QF12 ex LAX. If it had been on time, that would have meant arriving at 0835 for an 0930 outbound flight. There will have been reasons 'why not', but at face value it would have made more sense to use VH-OQD that arrived seven minutes late at 0622 on QF2 ex LHR and SIN.

In further on 3 January 2018, QF81 was showing earlier this morning as on time, but this 1130 hours SYD up to SIN has been delayed until 1600 this afternoon in its pushback, which will be 270 minutes late. Arrival is estimated at 2110 tonight (after midnight Oz SYD time!), 265 late. This will result in a bad delay to an Oz-bound QF flight tonight ex SIN, but the QF website has yet to update to show which one.

The SYD - LAX QF11 departed 19 late at 1129 late this morning with same day arrival estimated as 0631, 31 late.

Second stringer QF117 from SYD to HKG should push back half an hour late at 1620 this afternoon.

Continuing with 3 January 2019, 'the 7' departed at 1521, 41 minutes behind schedule from SYD with DFW arrival estimated as 1340 hours same day, 40 late.
