Qantas Delays/Cancellations

As Friday 21 December draws to a close, the PER across to SYD QF566 - sometimes early - is not so tonight, with A332 VH-EBG suggested as arriving at 2304 (and hence touching down at 2259, right before curfew in SYD).

QF555, the 1905 hours BNE down to SYD airborne at 2050 is just ahead of QF566. 555 should arrive at 2301 with B738 VH-VYA.

QF497 (2205 hours SYd - MEL) was in the sky at 2311 with VH-VZX.

QF581 (1025 hours SYD - PER, A332 VH-EBJ) was in the sky at 1110 so arrival is a suggested 1259, 39 late.

The 1130 hours late morning SYD - SIN, QF81 departed 70 late so arrival is forecast to be 1751, 66 late.

The 1225 hours SYD - MNL, QF19 has been altered to depart 80 late with arrival predicted as 1845, 75 late.

QF27 (1250 hours SYD - SCL B744 long haul) used not to operate on Saturdays but it is now, with its 22 December pushback delayed until 1400 hours, meaning arrival likely at 1215, 65 late. This will delay the returning QF28.

The 1130 hours MEL up to SYD, B738 VH-XZM on QF428 is arriving at 1331 hours, 36 late.

QF433, the 1230 hours SYD - MEL (VH-VYC) had yet to take off as at 1328 so will be more than half an hour late arriving.

Earlier on Saturday 22 December, QF7 was a little late departing SYD so DFW arrival is estimated as 1339, 39 late.

QF1 pushed back in SYD at 1733, 33 late so arrival in SIN is suggested as 2235, half an hour behind.

The LAX - MEL QF94 (A388 VH-OQF) is again late, with the estimated arrival on Sunday 23 December 2018 being 1104, 74 late. QF35 (1220 hours MEL - SIN) is predicted to push back 40 minutes behind schedule with arrival 45 late at 1750.

In further on Sunday 23 December, QF16 arrived ex LAX in BNE at 0846, 91 late. B789 VH-ZNG would ordinarily have sufficient time in which to turn around for QF15, the BNE to LAX daily, but did not push back until 1247, 87 minutes tardy, taking off at 1304. LAX arrival should be same day at 0705, 65 late. This may slightly delay the onward flight, QF11, the 0820 hours to JFK.

When many months ago I or others asserted that the northern winter was the most challenging time for QF11/QF12 across the USA, one of our resident aviators reminded me that summer thunderstorms can also disrupt operations. Perhaps travel in spring or what the Yanks call 'fall?'

UPDATE: QF has amended the suggested arrival to 0723 hours in LAX. The QF software often changes the estimated arrival once the flight has levelled.

QF573 (1215 hours Sunday 23 December BNE across to PER, B738 VH-VZR) took off at 1340 hours with suggested arrival 1652, 82 late.

The B744 on QF27 (1250 hours SYD - SCL) pushed back at 1331 with the estimated arrival becoming 1206 hours, 56 late. This will delay the returning QF28 a little, but sometimes on a gate-to-gate basis it picks up time.

Monday 24 December 2018 sees QF20 from MNL to SYD (A333 VH-QPE) arriving at 0659, 39 late.

QF79, the 0920 hours MEL up to NRT continues to be tardy with departure 83 late meaning estimated arrival at 1845, 65 late. In turn, QF80 NRT to MEL or QF62 to BNE will be delayed tonight.

Earlier, QF97 departed BNE 53 late at 1023 for HKG where arrival is estimated at 1805, 35 minutes past what the timetable states.

One I missed earlier was that on Sunday 23 December, QF9 departed PER five late at 1946 hours, arriving LHR on Christmas Eve at 0547 hours, 42 minutes behind schedule.

Tonight (Christmas Eve) it's QF62's turn to be delayed (1930 hours NRT down to BNE).

There doesn't seem to be a discernible pattern if 'the 79' (northbound) is delayed as to whether QF62 or QF80 suffers.

Christmas Day 2018 sees QF16 from LAX to BNE estimated to arrive half an hour late at 0745. This should not adversely affect outbound QF15 back to LAX.

Although QF30 from HKG to MEL arrived 15 minutes early at 0715 at gate 14A, QF29, the 0945 hours back to the SAR is expected to push back an hour late.

QF922 (0900 hours SYD - CNS) took off at 1004 with A332 VH-EBJ. Arrival should be at 1149, 49 late.

The 0930 hours MEL - ASP (QF796, B738 VH-VZR) was airborne at 1017 with arrival at 1126, 36 late the forecast.

Yesterday (Christmas Eve), QF117/QF118 (the afternoon 'second stringer' to HKG ex SYD was not in the timetable) while today, the morning, higher capacity QF127 (and tonight, QF128) are similarly not present. QF129/QF130 to and from PVG are also not timetabled today. Tomorrow (Boxing or St Stephen's Day) will be very busy for airlines so all these flights should operate.

Continuing with Christmas Day 2018, QF93 (A388 VH-OQA) departed MEL 31 minutes late at 1126 hours with same day LAX arrival suggested as 0657, 32 behind.

Christmas Day 2018...QF30 from HKG to MEL arrived 15 minutes early at 0715 at gate 14A, QF29, the 0945 hours back to the SAR is expected to push back an hour late...

However, QF29 did not become airborne until 1138 with arrival of B789 VH-ZNE likely at 1707, 52 late.

This aircraft was previously on QF10, the evening Chirtsmas Eve arrival from PER and LHR, so nothing to do with QF30 this morning.

In further on Christmas Day, QF7, the long flight SYD - DFW should push back half an hour behind at 1510 mid afternoon.

Christmas Day has seen QF71, the 1225 hours PER to SIN push back 47 minutes tardy with arrival set for 1825, 35 late.

Today QF149 SYD-AKL originally due to depart 19:20, then delayed 20:30/21:30/22:25.

I was orginally scheduled on this A330 flight but was moved to an NZ flight departing around 18:00 as I was told it was likely it would be subbed to a 737, and the seat allocations were certainly thinning before I left SYD. Flight still has to take off and I'm already in AKL thanks to the excellent efforts of Beryl in the first class lounge this afternoon.

...

QF149 departed SYD at 2238 on Christmas Day with A333 VH-QPJ, not a B738 as you were advised. The charming estimated arrival in AKL is 0329 hours on 26 December, 179 late. QPJ had been on the delayed QF146 from AKL, arriving SYD at 2150 , 100 minutes late, so it had an extremely fast turnaround.

Prior to these flights, QPJ had run QF6001 ferry (empty) flight from SYD to BNE, arriving at 1147, and then QF119, the morning 1030 hours BNE - AKL that did not take off until 1352, arriving at 1942 hours, 187 late.

Looks like an aircraft had failed in BNE.

A333 VH-QPG had arrived in BNE tthis morning on QF62 at 0601 hours ex NRT. It may have failed, or just needed planned maintenance.
