Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Continuing with Thursday 20 December 2018, the seasonal flight from SYD to YVR, QF75 (B744 VH-OJU) is delayed from 1915 to an expected 2230 hours in its departure, with likely arrival at 1725 hours same day, 200 minutes late.

With the Thursday QF76 from YVR timed to depart at 2200, this doesn't give 'the 75' much more margin before QF76 has to depart late from western Canada.

Meanwhile QF25 from SYD to NRT (formed by the diverted via MEL QF28 ex SCL) has been further put back to a 2245 hours pushback.

QF1494 (1915 hours CBR up to SYD, Q400 VH-QOF) took off at 2124 hours, arriving at 2235, 145 minutes tardy.

QF785, the 2055 hours SYD across to ADL with B738 VH-VZB took off at 2229 so arrival is expected at 0003 hours on Friday 21, 93 minutes late. As ADL also has a curfew, this flight must have a Federal Ministerial delegate's dispensation.

The 1945 hours ASYD - OOL, QF864 (Vh-VYG) had not taken off by 2235 hours.

On Friday 21 December 2018, the morning SYD to WTB due out at 0810 hours is expected not to depart until 1100.

QF417, the 0830 hours SYD - MEL has been cancelled, as has QF1471, the 0955 hours SYD short hop down to CBR.

Though the Friday 21 arriving QF309 ex HKG and QF80 ex NRT are both punctual (and the later arriving QF38 only a little late), QF79 on Friday is expected to depart MEL an hour late for NRT.

Continuing with 20 December 2018, QF522, the 2030 hours SYD up to BNE took off at 2334 hours, at least the fifth aircraft to presumably have a dispensation to breach curfew. VH-VYC is the aircraft.

QF556, the 2130 hours on the same route followed the 522 very closely.

Earlier, QF846 (VH-VXM, the 2025 hours SYD - DRW took off at 2243 so arrival is delayed until 0130 hours on Friday 21, 125 late.

B744 VH-OJU took off at 2342 on the much delayed QF75, the 1915 SYD - YVR occasional (seasonal) flight. QF76 will be delayed tomorrow night ex YVR more than likely. 'The 75' is at least flight number eight tonight to breach the curfew in SYD.

QF497 was the tenth breacher, taking off at 2345 hours with A332 VH-EBA on this scheduled 2205 hours flight down to MEL.

QF865 OOL-SYD diverted back to OOL
QF164 WLG-SYD diverted to CBR
QF541 BNE-SYD diverted back to BNE
QF756 ADL-SYD diverted to CBR
QF146 AKL-SYD diverted to BNE
QF2031 ARM-SYD went back to ARM

QF456 MEL-SYD (VH-VXR) is expected to arrive at 20 56, 136 behind schedule, weather permits.

The above turned out to be incomplete and a moveable feast as some of these got to their destinations last night.

QF164 (B738 VH-VZI) had diverted to CBR as stated by Silvia but then took off at 2113 hours, arriving SYD at 2210 instead of the timetabled 1735 hours.

QF541's aircraft, B738 VH-VXI remains in BNE as at 0750 AEDT (0640 AEST) as Silvia suggests.

QF756 was another one that although diverting to CBR, made it to SYD (its destination) at 2142 hours last night, 227 minutes late.

QF865 on 20 December, the 1445 hours OOL - SYD departed at 2055 and arrived SYD at 2321 last night, 366 minutes late,. presumably receiving a dispensation to break the Sydney curfew. I can't see if this was its second attempt to depart OOL. Aircraft was B738 VH-VYF.

A332 VH-EBC on the diverted to BNE QF146 is also still in BNE as far as I can see.

QF2031 last night has taken off from ARM this morning under a different flight number at 0712 and should arrive SYD at 0820 hours. VH-TQH is the plane.

Very much a mixed bag. No consistency: somewhat of a lottery as to whether one got to the ticketed destination.

On Friday 21 December 2018, QF814 (0900 hours MEL to CBR) has been cancelled. Earlier, QF671 (0650 hours MEL across to ADL) did not run.

QF424 (1030 hours MEL - SYD) is another one to bite the bullet So is QF428 at 1130 ex MEL, and QF814, the 0900 hours MEL - CBR.

QF922 (0900 hours SYD up to CNS) is also cancelled.

QF1465 (0810 hours SYD down to CBR) is another cancellation on this route adding to QF1471, the 0955 hours as noted above.

The 0815 hours SYD - DBO, QF2040, should depart at 1120.

QF575, the 0825 hours transcon across to PER ex SYD is estimated to push back 35 late.

The 1015 hours SYD - LDH, QF2262 is also cancelled.

QF143, the 1030 hours SYD across to AKL is suggested as departing half an hour tardy.

In more on Friday 21 December, QF41, the 1350 hours afternoon SYD up to CGK should depart an hour late.

QF439 (1400 hours SYD down to MEL) is yet another cancellation, as is QF532, the 1500 hours SYD up to BNE.

QF94 LAX-MEL is suggested to arrive to gate at 10 48, 58 tardy. (VH-OQA). Let's see how that affects QF35.

QF171 MEL-WLG was airborne at 10 04, arrival is revised to 15 23, 33 behind schedule (VH-XZB).

QF676 ADL-MEL 8 55 service was another cancellation.
QF855 CBR-MEL 12 00 hours service also cancelled.

Continuing with Friday 21 December, QF616 (B738 VH-VYH, the 1210 hours MEL - BNE that took off at 1321) should arrive at 1422, 62 minutes tardy.

QF79 from MEL to NRT departed at 1018, two minutes earlier than had been predicted, but 58 late with arrival estimated as 1853, 73 minutes tardy.

Answering Silvia's question, QF35 with A388 VH-OQA departed MEL 44 late at 1304, taking off at 1322 with SIN arrival forecast as 1814, 69 late.

One of the biggest surprises in the last few months has been how often QF35 runs late, as one might have expected that the more generous turnaround time allowed from QF94 to QF35 would have minimised delays compared to the previous case with the QF94 to QF93 situation

VH-VYL on QF812, the 1250 hours lunchtime MEL up to CBR was airborne at 1333 so arrival should be 1425, half an hour late.

QF19, the 1225 hours SYD - MNL departed at 1311 so arrival is expected at 1807, 37 late.

Was supposed to be on QF1550 Canb - Brisb this afternoon but the flight has now been delayed by over an hour and I won't be able to make my following flight to Fraser Coast. Have been booked in tomorrow instead. The worst part is I received an upgrade to business via text this morning however there is none available tomorrow.

In more on Friday 21 December, the B789 on QF15 from BNE to LAX pushed back at 1249 hours, 89 late with same day arrival likely at 0700, an hour late. This may slightly delay QF11, the 0820 hours transcon LAX - JFK.

The delayed QF75 arrived YVR at 1757 hours, 232 minutes late on Thursday 20. QF76 remains showing as a timely 2000 hours departure.

Another B744, QF73 from SYD that departed on Thursday evening at 2120 instead of 1755 arrived SFO at 1438 hours, 133 minutes tardy.

QF25 from last night has been delayed in its departure until an estimated 1435 today (Friday 21). Arrival should be at 2210 instead of 0500 in HND. As Himeno always reminds us, HND has very strict windows (slot restrictions) during which flights like QF's can arrive or depart.

As a result, tonight's QF26 is expected to depart HND 115 late at 2355 with Saturday 22 arrival in SYD at 1139 hours - unusually precise and 124 minutes behind schedule.

UPDATE: VH-OJS on the overnight delayed QF25 was off blocks at 1503 on Friday 21, so HND arrival should be at 2234 hours, 929 minutes late. This means a post-midnight departure from HND for the delayed QF26.

From the BOM map on Friday 21 December 2018 as at 1500 hours, looks like another thunderstorm is about to hit Sydney from the west, although it may be much shorter in duration than yesterday's.

There are also some storms in the Melbourne area, though not completely enveloping MEL as was so yesterday around SYD.

The 1240 hours OOL down to SYD, QF859 (B738 VH-VXB) was in the sky at 1345. Arrival should be at 1553, 43 late.

QF815 (VH-VYL, the 1435 hours CBR - MEL) took off at 1527. Expected arrival is 1633, 48 late.

Earliee, QF81, the 1130 hours SYD up to SIN pushed back 53 late with arrival predicted as 1730 hours, 45 late.

The normally punctual QF61 departed BNE half an hour behind at 0950 with NRT arrival estimated at 1805 in the early evening, 35 late.

QF97 pushed back in BNE 69 minutes behind schedule at 1039 this morning. HKG should be reached (at gate) at 1710, 40 late.

Still filing re Friday 21 December 2018, QF441 (1430 hours SYD down to MEL) took off at 1539. B738 VH-VYA should be at its nominated gate at 1654 hours, 49 late.

QF538 (1530 hours mid arvo SYD up to BNE) was in the sky at 1619 with VH-VZU. Arrival looks to be 1638, 38 late.

QF536 SYD-BNE had to be on holding pattern, then go a bit into the Tasman sea to attempt landing. Looks like it will be arriving at 17 45, 75 late (VH-VXB)

Quite a few delays and some cancellation in BNE right now. @QF WP has posted photos of the storm looming and there could be further delays or cancellations if they don't hurry up.

QF540 SYD-BNE (VH-VXM) arrived at 18 27, 57 tardy. The return leg, operating as QF553, originally scheduled for 18 35, is now delayed to 20 00.

QF1550 CBR-BNE (VH-YQW) is worse delayed, with suggested arrival at 21 11, 166 min tardy.

QF2343 GLT-BNE (VH-LQB) didn't have the same luck as the earlier service and is now delayed to 20 41, 106 late.
