Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Also on Monday 17 December 2018, QF1550 (B717 VH-NXE, the 1740 hours CBR up to BNE) was airborne at 1823. Expected arrival is 1857, 32 minutes behind.

B738 VH-VZI on QF45, the 1725 hours late afternoon uncomfortable narrowbody from MEL to DPS took off at 1816. Arrival should be at about 2111 hours tonight mid evening, 41 tardy.

It also depends on the staff involved. I've been on many delayed flights to BNE where they have held departing flights for the connecting passengers and passengers have been advised to run to gate.

Which staff? Gate staff cannot hold an aircraft. Certainly they can tell people to run.

Further to earlier entries re Monday 17 December 2018, QF580, the 1130 hours late morning PER across to SYD transcon took off more than two hours late at 1405. A332 VH-EBA, assisted by favourable winds should arrive 122 late at 2042.

I don't know who makes the decisions but onboard crew have brought economy passengers to the front few rows or even in business at the end of the flight numerous times as they have a tight connection and they are holding the flight for them. They are allowed to get off first and told the next gate.

There have been other times where a group of people have had a tight connection and we have been delayed and on arrival have been asked to remain seated until the group of people deplane first.

I'm confused as to why I was taken off QF433 and skipped QF435, QF437 and put on QF439? And I hear announcement anyone with later flights to MEL without checked baggage to go to service desk for earlier flight.

Yes I do know Saturday was not a good day but not handled well especially the crew on QF863. There was no urgency at all at OOL even though the aircraft arrived and we were scheduled to leave late. I'd be interested to know if any luggage was involved because that was not announced as the captain usually informs that we have initiated baggage offload procedures and keeps everyone up to date.

A332 VH-EBD on QF146, the 1625 hours from AKL to SYD on 17 December took off at 2045. Arrival is 2134 hours, 214 minutes late.

In further on 18 December, QF23, the 1030 hours midmorning SYD - BKK is back to its bad old ways with departure 110 minutes tardy at 1220 hours. Resultant expected arrival is 1744 hours, 94 minutes behind the schedule. This will delay departure of tonight's QF24 redeye until about 1855 or 1900 ex BKK, 45 - 50 late if all goes well. It may make up some gate-to-gate time enroute to SYD.

QF15 creditably departed BNE six minutes early at 1114 hours but same day LAX arrival is suggested as 0652, 52 late. If this occurs, the onward leg QF11 (0820 hours LAX - JFK) may be slightly late in pushing back.

Monday's QF11 from LAX to JFK was late, as predicted in the previous post, departing at 0858, 38 minutes tardy with JFK arrival for the B789 at 1703, 33 late. The returning QF12 then departed 40 late at 1840 hours, arriving LAX at 2129, 34 late. This meant the connecting QF12 pushed back at 2318, 48 late with Wednesday 19 December 2018 arrival predicted as 0905 hours, half an hour behind schedule.

The :LAX - BNE QF16 departed at 0030 hours on Tuesday, 70 late for forecast Wednesday arrival at 0830, 75 late. By itself this should not result in QF15 tomorrow back to LAX departing late, as this has a relatively long almost four hour turnaround in the Australian Sunshine State capital.

Tuesday 18 December 2018's QF37, the scheduled 1715 hours was 31 late off blocks, though was airborne very promptly at 1757, so arrival in the Lion City is estimated as 2250, 35 late. A332 VH-EBN has the honour.

Continuing with Tuesday 18 December, QF497 (last of the night's southbounds SYD down to MEL, the 2205 hours) took off at 2258, just beating curfew, with A332 VH-EBA. Arrival on Wednesday 19 should be at 0015, 35 late.

Flagship QF1 on Tuesday afternoon, the 1700 hours is an example of a QFi flight that is usually pretty punctual. Tonight was an exception. A388 VH-OQI took off at 1831 after pushing back at 1816. SIN arrival should be 2320, 75 late. Departure is suggested as 0035 on Wednesday 19 for LHR arrival at 0645, half an hour late.

0900 QF419 SYD-MEL cancelled

Are you sure about that? It arrived about 10 minutes ahead of schedule according to FR24 and the QF site.

It may have originally been the prediction on the QF (or FR24) site. Obviously whichever turned out to be incorrect. I don't keep a log of which source provided the information, and often I compare more than one as a lot of the time for longer flights FR24 is wrong (generally overstating delays) but perhaps I omitted to do that on this occasion. Apologies!

QF41, the Wednesday 19 December 1350 hours afternoon SYD - CGK took off at 1459. A332 VH-EBE should arrive at 1820, 50 late.

The SYD across to SCL QF27 was off blocks at 1336, 46 late with suggested arrival 31 late at 1141 same day for this B744.

I had listed VH-EBE as being late this morning on its SYD-MEL run and it appears it has flowed on as the return MEL-SYD was delayed and now the SYD-CGK is late

The only reason I commented, was the it's quite difficult to lose an hour on a sector, unless you're hit with extensive holding, or there's huge winds at play....and in both cases it tends to apply to all aircraft on the route, not just one.

QF37 MEL-SIN (A333 VH-QPB) took off at 19 26, arrival is revised to 00 21, 126 behind schedule.

QF133 MEL-CHC (B738 VH-XZK) departed at 19 38, arrival is suggested at 00 45, 46 min tardy.

QF1585 SYD-HBA (B171 VH-YQY) was airborne until 19 51, arrival is predicted at 21 25, 35 late.

QF474 MEL-SYD 18 15 service was cancelled.

QF80 on Wednesday 19 December 2018, the scheduled 1920 hours NRT down to MEL has been delayed until an expected 2130, meaning Thursday 20 arrival is likely at 0955 hours, 115 late. Aircraft is A333 VH-QPH.

This is because QF79 departed MEL this morning at 1203 hours, 163 minutes late,.arriving NRT at 2009 hours, 149 late.

The BNE - NRT QF61 was also delayed on Wednesday, pushing back at 1054 hours (94 late) for an NRT arrival at 1843, 73 down. QF62 departed 38 late at 2008 hours with BNE Thursday arrival likely at 0605, 25 minutes tardy.

Quite often (more often than not?) QF79 forms QF62: this occurred last night, and the ex-BNE aircraft then flies down to MEL ex NRT.

Looks like PER is bearing the brunt of the bad weather in NSW with several flights across the various airlines being delayed.

QF719 CBR-PER departed at 2215 (195 minutes late) and is expected to arrive at 2346 (191 minutes late)

QF583 SYD-PER didn’t get away until 2202 (127 minutes late) and therefore isn’t expected to arrive until 2338 (108 minutes late)

The delayed QF80 arrived in MEL on Thursday 20 December at 0948, 108 minutes behind schedule. QF expects the aircraft to quickly turn around and operate the 0920 hours QF79 MEL back up to NRT, with an expected departure at 1110 hours meaning likely arrival at 1935 tonight, 115 minutes late. This aircraft may then be forming QF62, the 1930 hours NRT - BNE redeye as it is displaying an 80 minute late off blocks estimated time for tonight.

On occasion in the past, in the relatively rate event of QF80 arriving late in MEL its aircraft has then run the morning MEL - HKG QF29. It is quite unusual for QF79 to run late on two consecutive days.

QF51, the 1150 hours BNE - SIN that also has a good timekeeping record is expected to have its 20 December departure delayed by 90 minutes.

UPDATE: Thursday's QF79 departed MEL at 1131 hours, 131 minutes late with NRT arrival changed to a suggested 2002 hours, 144 late. This will mean QF62 to BNE will be unlikely to depart Japan much before 2115 hours tonight, 105 minutes tardy.

With QF94 having arrived in MEL at 1056 on 20 Dec ember (66 late), departure of QF35 to SIN has been put back to 1245 hours, 25 minutes late.

The switch from DXB to SIN has not eliminated these delays.
