A388 VH-OQH arrived in SYD on Thursday 10 January on QF128 and has not been used today. It may be undergoing repairs.

On Saturday 12, scheduled A388 QF departures are QF127 to HKG, QF11 plus the delayed overnight QF17 to LAX, QF7 to DFW and QF1 to SIN and LHR.

However tomorrow morning, only VH-OQA (QF2 arriving at 0618 hours), VH-OQB (QF8 arriving SYD 0610), VH-OQD (QF12 ex LAX, delayed and arriving SYD at about 0959 hours) and VH-OQK ex HKG on QF128 are arriving.

If I haven't omitted any arrivals, QF needs OQH to be available tomorrow.

Some of the 18 pax were transferred to 12 but most are still in LAX

Skiski (great username), which hotel(s) are they at? Have meals been included? What flight(s) have those in LAX been rebooked on and for what day departing LAX?

It could be fairly difficult to find many empty seats as Australians are coming back for work: not just occupations like teachers (who may not travel for another 10 days) but many others, so it would be surprising if QF flights were not very close to full, or full, and competitors AA, DL, FJ, HA, NZ and VA plus others may well also be similar.

Unsure what hotels or meals have been provided as advice of delay was received prior to airport arrival so own arrangements found. $200 reimbursement has been offered. Not that it will cover expense but Insurance claim could. No doubt those at airport would be accommodated and some meal costs covered. Usually find in these situation what is provided for meals is usually pretty miserly.

Continuing with Saturday 12 January 2019, QF63 departed at 1228 hours from SYD for JNB, 54 late. Arrival should be 55 late at 1730 hours. This will delay QF64's departure.

QF63 has been a poor performer timekeeping wise of late in line with how QF appears to be having trouble getting its ageing B744s away on time out of its major Sydney hub.

The 1825 hours Friday 11 January SYD - LAX QF17 was meant to be delayed until 1300 on Saturday 12 in its pushback but this has become 1320.

UPDATE: VH-OQK took off at 1321 with LAX estimated arrival becoming 0755 same day.

The fourth A388 departure for the day, QF7 (1440 SYD - DFW) is delayed until an expected 1505 hours.

A388 VH-OQK on the overnight delayed QF18 from LAX to SYD did not take off until 1015 on Saturday 12 January so Sunday 13 arrival is expected at 2020 hours instead of the timetabled 0615 hours.

QF unrealistically suggests that QF17 from SYD to LAX, the scheduled 1825 hours will be able to depart at 2145 hours. More likely is 2210 or later.

They have set arrival of QF18 to 1947 which if it stays at that should help QF17 get away around 2200

The QF website still claims an '1835 hours' landing time tonight (13 January 2019) - that is, adding the usual five minutes, 1840 hours at gate. That's incorrect, as the flight did not depart at 0935 from LAX as the QF website still suggests. A few times lately, the QF flight status for long distance flights has not been updated which is unusual, as normally once an aircraft is cruising at FL38 or whatever, the arrival time is adjusted to what QF believes will reflect reality.

The SYD - SFO QF flights have had many recent delays. On Sunday 13 January, QF73, the B744 scheduled to depart at 1755 hours has been put back to an early evening 1850 hours. This is because QF64 from JNB departed 70 minutes late on Saturday 12 at 2000 hours, so Sunday 13 expected arrival is 1642, 67 minutes behind schedule.

In more on Sunday 13 January, QF93 departed MEL 61 late at 1156 hours with same day LAX arrival suggested as 0723, 58 late. A delay like this will usually see the B789 ex QF15 for QF11 transcontinental across to JFK held for these connecting ex MEL passengers. As QF11 should depart LAX at 0820 hours, it is likely to be late on Sunday 13. This may in turn mean QF12 back from JFK across to LAX is tardy.

Also on Sunday 13 January, QF2265 (Q200 VH-TQG, the 1530 hours LDH across to SYD airborne at 1709) is arriving 78 late at 1903 hours.

The WLG - MEL 1550 hours, QF172 was in the sky at 1716 so arrival for B738 VH-XZG is at 1854, 59 late.

This delayed QF arrival is now displaying as 2005 hours as its at gate time, but a 2200 hours QF17 departure remains possible. Just!

QF18 was at its gate at roughly 2005. Another long distance delayed flight is the SYD-arriving QF28 B744 from SCL that arrived at 1857 hours, 77 late. Eastbound QF73 departed SYD 65 late at 1900 hours for SFO.
