Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Also on Saturday 26 January, QF27 (B744 VH-OJS, 1250 hours lunchtime SYD - SCL) pushed back 63 minutes late but arrival should only be 25 late at 1135 hours, same day.

In the other direction, although QF28 only departed SCL on Friday 25 at 1403, 28 late, arrival in SYD on Saturday is not expected until 1825, 45 minutes tardy.

Saturday's QF117 is put back to 1730 ex SYD, 100 late with HKG arrival suggested at 2335, 80 late. QF118 will be tardy overnight.

QF19D, the overnight delayed originally due ex SYD at 1225 Friday took off at 1351 on Saturday 26 with A332 VH-EBN. The normal QF19 (Saturday's) is ahead with VH-EBR.

...Saturday 26 January...QF11 (1110 hours SYD - LAX) should depart half an hour late.

It pushed back at 1148 so LAX arrival has become 0655, 55 late. This may slightly delay the connecting QF11.

'The 7' departed SYD 44 late at 1524 so DFW arrival is estimated as 1342, 42 late.

Also on Saturday 26, the 1715 hours MEL - SIN, QF37, has been delayed to an expected 2330 hours pushback, turning it into an overnight flight.
Arrival should be at 0415 hours on Sunday 27, 365 minutes late. This means getting to an hotel at 0600 not midnight.

QF38, the 2340 hours should depart at 0600 hours on Sunday, arriving MEL at 1630 in the afternoon, 375 late. Do out-of-towners receive a complimentary Singapore hotel room (plus transfers) with an expected 6.5 hour delay? It'd be unpleasant having to spend the night at Changi even though it's a great airport, as for those without lounge access, there's only so many recliner chairs.

Is there somewhere I can check an individual flight for a number of departures?
QF25 appears to be still having issues

You're correct: in one I missed - apologies - last night's QF25, the 2135 hours, departed at 1446 hours as QF25D (B744 VH-OEI) on Saturday 26 January with HND arrival estimated as 2211 tonight instead of 0505, so 1146 minutes late. This means QF26 tonight cannot depart until about midnight from HND.

OEI had come in on QF76 ex YVR this morning (Saturday) so another B744 must have become defective.

You can go back seven days on FR24. Just type QF25 into Bing or Google, and the Flight Radar 24 website should bring up the last seven departures and arrivals. Note that latter is the landing time so add five minutes for the 'at gate' arrival time. Accessing further back requires a subscription.

Even better is FlightStats that typically shows the on time performance overall of the last 60 flights, although it may miss the occasional cancellation. Nowhere does it explain what 'excessively late' means - I suspect it's 'more than 120 minutes late' and there are some other categories. Some other sites may also be useful.

As a friend commented who has just flown from SYD to SIN and on to HND, airlines like SQ and JL pretty much consistently deliver on time or very close to it flights. QFi seems unable to do this, as these close to 600 pages highlight.

QF73 was also late on Australia Day 2019, with its pushback at 1840 in lieu of 1755. Arrival should be at 1309 hours, 44 late. IT had arrived in SYD this afternoon at 1529 hours, six minute searly on QF64 ex JNB, so in theory had sufficient time to turn around for 'the 73.'

Patronage was interesting. Apparently Y was virtually full. Y+ and J were near empty. I had the whole of row 24 to myself. The only people sitting next to someone were couples.

You weren't travelling in the peak direction today if northbound. I'll be astounded if (apart from no shows) tomorrow night's QF36 isn't full.

On Sunday 27 January, the afternoon 1715 hours MEL - SIN, QF37, has been altered to depart 75 minutes late.

The B744 scheduled at 1250 hours from SYD for the long flight to SCL should depart 35 minutes behind schedule.

Another B744, QF75 that was meant to depart SYD last night at 1915 hours has been delayed to an expected 1930 tonight, with arrival in YVR at 1425 on Sunday 27 instead of 1405 on Saturday 26. Similarly the Saturday evening QF76 due out at 2000 has been changed to push back at 2015 on Sunday 27, meaning Tuesday arrival at 0625 hours is predicted, 1460 minutes late.

This was the final seasonal SYD - YVR - SYD so not a happy ending.

While it is not a comparison of apples and apples given QF's base is Australia and that doesn't apply to almost all other international airlines operating here, unfortunately QF has by far the worst record for 24 hour delays.

There'd be bound to be some coming back on Monday morning ex Canada to start work later that day, or on Tuesday morning first thing, and now that's not possible.

Due to the overnight delay to QF25, the returning QF26 (HND - SYD, B744 VH-OEI) is arriving at 1136, 121 minutes late, having become airborne at 0055. This aircraft is forming the 1250 hours QF27 to SCL, so that explains the predicted delay above.

'Ferry' flight QF6007 (A333 VH-QPG) is operating from MEL to SYD, having become airborne at 1239.

UPDATE: QF6007 became QF83, the 1530 hours SYD - SIN that departed eight early at 1522.

...on Saturday 26 January...QF117 is put back to 1730 ex SYD, 100 late with HKG arrival suggested at 2335, 80 late. QF118 will be tardy overnight...

A332 VH-EBV that was the rostered aircraft must have had further problems leading to yesterday's QF117 and QF118 being delayed unexpectedly overnight.

On Sunday 27, QF117D departed at 1155 hours with A332 VH-EBV. Arrival should be at 1758 this afternoon instead of 2215 last night, so 1183 minutes late. The 2335 hours HKG - SYD (QF118) on Saturday should instead depart at 1930 on Sunday evening. Projected SYD arrival is 0805 on Monday 28, 1205 minutes late.

Feedback from anyone on these overnight delayed flights (including on other routes) is always most welcome: what hotel(s) you were put up in, how the transfers were handled and what meal allowances or meals you received.

QF19, the 1225 hours Sunday 27 SYD - MNL was earlier expected to be on time but departed 69 late at 1334 hours, with A332 VH-EBM taking off at 1349. Arrival should be at 1829, 59 late.

Friday's 2000 hours MNL down to SYD, QF20, was delayed to an expected 0900 ex the Philippines' capital on Sunday due to QF19 suffering an overnight delay, and consequent lack of crew to operate it straight back down to SYD overnight on Saturday.

On Sunday 27 January, QF20D departed MNL at 0942 with SYD arrival suggested as 2045 hours, 865 minutes late.

On Sunday 27 January...
The B744 scheduled at 1250 hours from SYD for the long flight to SCL should depart 35 minutes behind schedule...

QF27 pushed back at 1345, 55 late but QF expects SCL arrival at 1120, just 10 minutes late.

The 1350 SYD - CGK QF41 is normally an excellent timekeeper, often arriving early in Jakarta, but on 27 January has been delayed to beyond 1520, so arrival will be at least an hour late, adversely affecting QF42, the redeye back down to SYD.

UPDATE: QF41 departed SYD at 1530 hours. VH-EBA should arrive in CGK at 1849, 79 minutes late. QF42, the scheduled 1900 hours is showing as instead pushing back at 1955. While a 66 minute turnaround is possible, this aircraft size usually takes 70 to 75 from blocks on to blocks off. SYD arrival on Monday 28 is suggested as 0715 hours, an hour behind schedule.

The 1500 hours SYD - BNE, QF532 has been cancelled.

QF43, the 1655 hours SYD - DPS is expected to push back 65 minutes late. It is meant to be an A332 today but in three days' time (with the end of school holidays) becomes a smaller B738.

The 1545 hours mid afternoon SYD up to PQQ, QF2174 should instead depart at 1655 hours.

Also on Sunday 27 January, QF7, the 1440 hours afternoon SYD to DFW departed 24 late with estimated arrival 31 late at 1331 hours, same day.

QF3 (1925 hours SYD - HNL) was another flight that was displaying for the day as on time but it ended up departing 50 late. HNL arrival (same day) is forecast for 0855, 50 down. This will delay the returning QF4 on Sunday morning ex HNL.

There's plenty of holding occurring approaching SYD with QF478, the 1845 hours MEL to SYD not immune. It took off at 1918 and should arrive at 2110, an hour late.

QF462 (1900 hours MEL - SYD, B738 VH-XZO) was airborne at 1928 so arrival should be at about 2120, 55 late.

Friday's 2000 hours MNL down to SYD, QF20, was delayed to an expected 0900 ex the Philippines' capital...On Sunday 27 January, QF20D departed MNL at 0942 with SYD arrival suggested as 2045 hours, 865 minutes late.

QF20D is further delayed due to holding on approach to SYD, with a new at gate time of about 2125 although the severe storms around SYD that had only been rated as a 'chance' by the BOM cannot be assisting timekeeping.

Northbound QF864, the 1945 hours SYD - OOL took off at 2053 with B738 VH-XZN, so arrival looks to be about 2102 hours, 52 late.

QF28, the Saturday 26 January 1335 hours SCL - SYD departed a minute late but after that, the fun started.

It diverted to CHC - perhaps due to expected storms in Sydney, and consequently insufficient fuel for an uncertain holding pattern period - with the stop in the NZ southern major centre from 1654 to 1742. Quickstatus amusingly calls these a 'splash and dash.'

The plane (B744 VH-OJS) arrived SYD at 1929, 109 minutes tardy. Its next duty is the 2135 hours to HND, QF25.

If someone could confirm the reason for the intermediate stop, I'd be appreciative.

Another delayed B744, QF75 from SYD on the final seasonal trip for a while to YVR was off blocks at 2129 on 27 January instead of 1915 hours on Saturday 26. Predicted arrival has become 1625 on Sunday instead of 1405 on Saturday.

QF55, the 1725 hours BNE - LAX on Saturday 26 and Monday 28 January have been cancelled. QF56 on Saturday night, the 2105 hours ex LAX was also cancelled but it looks as if this one is operating on Monday evening. These are B789 flights.

Were there insufficient B789s available?

On Sunday 27, QF554 (2000 hours SYD up to BNE, VH-VZD had not departed by 2207 hours.
