Qantas Delays/Cancellations

QF6200 is operating on Sunday 31 March from CBR up to, of all places, CNS. This may be a 'ferry' flight (empty) following a failure. Aircraft is B717 VH-NXJ that took off at 0928 hours with expected at gate arrival 1137.

If not a charter, it's expensive to send the aircraft all that way without passengers, but presumably QF budgets for a number of these movements per aircraft type every year.

The PVG - SYD QF130 should arrive at 1022, 37 late.

UPDATE: FR24 was incorrect. QF6200 was only a CBR to SYD 'ferry' flight: much shorter.

Although Sunday 31 March's QF1 from SYD is showing as punctual at the new time of 1655 hours, the pushback in SIN and arrival tomorrow at LHR are expected to be (respectively) half an hour and 35 late.

UPDATE: QF1 departed 20 minutes behind at 1715 hours.

Also on Sunday 31 March, QF37 (1715 hours MEL - SIN) departed unusually late at 1944, so arrival has been put back to a predicted 0034 on Monday 1 April, 129 minutes late. QF38 is likely to push back in the Lion City at 0145 (115 late) with MEL arrival 1205 hours, 110 late.

Earlier, the Saturday 30 March QF7 (timetabled ex SYD at 1340 hours for DFW) was showing as punctual but it has only just become airborne, at 2128 hours. A388 VH-OQK would have had to rustle up a new crew (both flight and cabin) so that may account for a portion of the delay.

Arrival is predicted as 2100 hours same day, eight hours (480 minutes) tardy. If anyone knows what went awry, that would be helpful.

The Saturday '8' should push back at 2100 normally, but that's impossible so a departure at 2245 ex distant DFW is about the best one could hope for...

Saturday 30 March's QF8 pushed back in DFW at 2302, 127 minutes behind schedule. Monday 1 April - no fool - arrival should be at 0811, very much the same at an expected 126 minutes late.

It's after 12 noon on 1 April 2019 so these contributions are genuine.

QF23 with its northern summer schedule of a 1050 hours SYD departure was off blocks 29 late. Arrival in BKK should be at 1715, 35 late.

The long MEL - LAX QF93 (A388 VH-OQD) is the 1000 hours that departed 82 minutes behind time, so arrival is estimated at 0726, 61 late (same day). This may delay the 0820 hours Monday QF11 from LAX across to JFK, and in turn the returning transcontinental USA flight QF12, plus possibly then at least the SYD and BNE-bound Monday evening departures from LAX.

Although the Sunday afternoon 31 March ex SYD QF1 was only expected to be half an hour tardy in pushing back in SIN, it did so at 0130 hours (95 late) so LHR expected arrival has become 0815 hours, 110 late.

On Tuesday 2 April 2019, B738 VH-VXG has had a late start to its cool morning as QF804, the 0630 hours MEL - CBR did not become airborne until 0826. Arrival should be at 0915 hours, 100 minutes late.

On Monday 1 April (true!), QF11 departed LAX at 0914 hours (54 late) having waited for the delayed '93' ex MEL. JFK arrival was 31 late at 1711 hours. QF12 then departed 35 late at 1845 but picked up time, arriving its LAX gate at 2120 hours a minute or so ago as I write, 20 minutes behind schedule.

Also on Monday, QF8 - often on time, or early, into SYD - departed distant DFW at 2312 hours so Wednesday 3 April estimated SYD arrival is 0830 hours, 125 late. This should not however delay any outbound A388 flights operated by QF on Wednesday (at least in theory!)

Although the ex-LHR QF2 was just 27 late arriving in SIN on Tuesday 2 April 2019 (1752 hours), its departure for SYD has been delayed until 2030, an hour late. Wednesday 3 anticipated arrival is 0700, 50 late.

The B744 on QF25, the 2150 hours SYD up to HND redeye pushed back 42 late so Wednesday expectd at gate arrival is 0557, also 42 late.

Unusually, QF20 from MNL back down to SYD managed to depart at 1941, 19 minutes early but due to the usual MNL ground congestion - at 2030 (2330 AEDT) the flight (A332 VH-EBQ was still on the runway - Wednesday arrival should be five minutes late at 0715 hours according to QF, although that may be an underestimate of the likely delay.

UPDATE: QF20 did not become airborne until 2108, an extraordinary 86 minutes from pushback - well in excess of 700 kilograms of wasted fuel - so SYD arrival is suggested as 0747, 37 late.

This is but one extreme example of how congestion at Asian airports can delay homeward-bound Australian passengers.

Wednesday 3 April sees QF12, the LAX to SYD (A388 VH-OQD) arriving 36 minutes behind schedule at 0806 hours.

The DPS - SYD redeye (QF44, A332 VH-EBO, a flight that until recently was only a B738) took off last night at 2234, only nine minutes after timetabled pushback, so about 10 early, but after reaching about Goulburn this morning (Wednesday) it is diverting to MEL where it should arrive at around 0742. It should be in SYD at 0725 so this will mean a significant delay for passengers. This may have been due to the 'early fog' predicted for Sydney, with one media outlet discussing 'extensive flight delays.'

milehighclub may be kind enough to fill us in with her inside knowledge.

The 0535 hours - odd timing - BNE down to SYD, QF503 has had a late start to its day with takeoff at 0618 meaning B738 VH-VZC will arrive at a suggested 0842, 32 late.

In more on Wednesday 3 April 2019, QF775 (A332 VH-EBB) , the 0710 hours MEL - PER did not become airborne until 0814 so expected arrival is 0902 hours, 42 late.

The diverted to MEL QF44 (see previous post) is showing as departing MEL at 0855 for a 1025 hours SYD arrival, three hours late. It would be annoying for (say) passengers connecting to LST, HBA or ADL that they couldn't deplane in Melbourne, even if they were HLO.

...on Monday, QF8 - often on time, or early, into SYD - departed distant DFW at 2312 hours so Wednesday 3 April estimated SYD arrival is 0830 hours, 125 late. This should not however delay any outbound A388 flights operated by QF on Wednesday (at least in theory!)

As QF8 had to hold offshore from SYD for some time, it is arriving on Wednesday 3 April at 0919 hours, 174 late.

QF2221, the scheduled 0805 hours from SYD to WGA is expected to depart at 1030 hours.

The 0810 hours SYD - WTB (Toowoomba) has been cancelled (QF1402). QF1432, stranegly also an 0810 hours on the same route is expected to push back at 1100 hours.

QF739, the 0815 hours morning SYD - ADL should have departed 45 late but it's already more than an hour late as I write.

QF2002 and QF2020, respectively the 0815 hours SYD - TMW and 0820 hours SYD - ARM have also had the flick. The 0835 hours QF2106 to CFS is also not running.

Another 0815 hours ex SYD but to PER, QF575 is showing as delayed until 0920 but will be later than that.

QF417, the 0830 hours SYD - MEL has been cancelled.

The 0815 hours CBR up to SYD, QF1514, is expected to depart at the exact time of 1029, showing the effect at 'outstations' of the SYD fog.

QF1467, the 0900 hours SYD - CNR is claimed to be departing at 115. Quicker to take any other mode, but as always, one doesn't know the day before that fog will definitely occur.

The 1030 hours SYD - ADL, QF741 has also been cancelled.

MEL is a touch chaotic this morning with most flights to SYD delayed due to the fog. I am on QF420 and it is delayed by 30 mins. I’m faring better than many on earlier flights. I believe there was at least one cancellation.

Continuing with Wednesday 3 April, QF472, the 0615 hours MEL - SYD was cancelled, as was QF404, the 0630 hours, while first of the morning at 0600, the QF400, departed 53 late but reached its SYD gate at 0848, 83 minutes behind schedule. QF410, the 0715 hours and QF402, the 0745 hours were also cancelled.

QF408, the 0700 hours MEL - SYD departed at 0905, 125 late with arrival suggested as 1051, 146 minutes behind the timetable.

The 0730 hours MEL - SYD (QF412) was expected to depart at 0950 but had not done so by 1000. So was QF414, the 0800 hours while QF416, the 0830 hours was changed to be an estimated 90 late ex the southern capital but has yet to push back.

QF418 (0900 hours MEL - SYD) is showing as an 0955 hours ex MEL but like others above is later than this. The 0930 hours, QF420 was predicted to depart at 1000 but also has not done so.

TonyHancock was just a bit optimistic regarding the number of cancellations.

In more on Wednesday 3 April 2019, QF1464, the 0715 hours CBR - SYD took off at 1002 hours with Q400 VH-QOM. Arrival looks to be 160 minutes late at 1050 hours.

QF127, the 1120 hours SYD - HKG is expected to depart at 1200 'high noon.' With so many connecting passengers delayed due to the Sydney fog, it wouldn't be a cakewalk to get these QFi flights pushing back on time, let alone the pressure on ATC from numerous domestic delays.

UPDATE: QF127 departed at 1222 with HKG arrival altered to 45 late at 1845 hours. A333 VH-QPF is the aircraft. In the past seven days, this flight has been an A333 twice, a B744 once with the other four days B789s. A mix reminiscent of Ansett Airlines.

Some late running is continuing from this morning's SYD fog, with B717 VH-NXJ on QF1581, the 1145 hours MCY down to SYD taking off at 1411. Arrival should be 127 late at 1637 hours.

QF1569 (1220 hours OOL - SYD, also a B717 but VH-YQU took off at 1433 so its arrival is similar at an expected 1645 hours, 115 late.

The BNE down to CBR QF1549 is not as bad with the 1330 hours late lunchtime (AEST) airborne at 1445 so it should be at its gate at 1717, 57 late. Aircraft is VH_NXI, another B717 making at least three that are badly late.

Another one, VH-YQT is on the ISA down to BNE QF1781, arriving at a predicted 1553 hours, 93 minutes behind time.

Thursday 4 April finds QF1010 from HBA to MEL, the 0600 hours, not having become airborne until 0710. The inevitable result is that B738 VH-VXN will arrive at 0804 hours, 49 late.

Q200 VH-TQS on QF2037, the 0630 hours early morning DBO to SYD took off at 0706 so arrival is at 0817, 32 late.

B789 VH-ZNH is arriving on QF128 ex HKG in SYD at 0833 hours, 38 late.

The LAX - MEL QF94 has A388 VH-OQA and should arrive at 0900, half an hour behind.

One I missed - apologies - was that on Wednesday 4 April 2019, QF1408 from BXG to SYD, the 0740 hours, departed at 09321, arriving at 1109, 99 minutes late.

Not auspicious in its first week of operation.

The LAX - MEL QF96 (B789 VH-ZNB) should arrive at 1010 hours, 45 late.

In more on Thursday 4 April 2019, QF1546, the 0745 hours BNE down to CBR did not become airborne until 0858 hours. B717 VH-NXJ should arrive at about 1129 hours, 54 late.

A332 VH-EBO on QF33, the 1055 hours SYD - KIX departed at 1115 but then was delayed, taking off at 1154. Arrival is estimated at 1934, 34 late.
