Qantas Delays/Cancellations

A332 VH-EBG on QF81, the 1130 hours Tuesday 19 March 2019 SYD up to SIN departed at 1319 and quickly took off at 1331, so delayed arrival is suggested as 1811 hours, 86 minutes late.

Earlier, the MEL to NRT QF79 pushed back 28 late at 0948 hours so expected arrival is 1810, half an hour late.

Flagship QF1, the A388 from SYD to SIN and on to LHR has been late a few times recently - not usual, as it's good on the punctuality score - and tonight is delayed 80 minutes to a predicted 1820 hours in its pushback.

Some delays into Melbourne this am. (Fog)

Anyway leaving Adelaide QF674 50 minutes late

I did think this was a pretty sweet Adelaide morning including Overfly

The fog is probably the reason - it's gloomy, not foggy where I am elsewhere in Melbourne on Wednesday 20 March 2019 - that QF405, the 0630 hours SYD down to MEL took off at 0727 with A332 VH-EBA. Arrival should be at 0842, 37 late.

The CBR - MEL QF795 (B738 VH-VYK) is not far behind but worse in timekeeping, as this 0620 hours was in the sky at 0743 for projected arrival 69 late at 0839 hours.

Behind it is QF403 (0645 hours SYD - MEL airborne at 0735) with VH-VZE likely to be at gate at 0855, 35 minutes behind schedule.

QF411, the southbound 0730 hours in the air at 0824 is also delayed with VH-VXS suggested as arriving at 0941, 36 late in MEL (ex SYD).

Later on Wednesday 20 March, QF476, the 1120 hours PER - MEL (A333 VH-QPG) took off at 1236 so expected arrival is 1858 hours, 63 minutes tardy. This A333 had been in PER since arriving at 1958 hours, two minutes early on Tuesday 19 (QF481 ex MEL). At face value this seems a 'waste' of an A333.

QF27 (1250 hours SYD - SCL B744) departed at 1344so arrival is expected 57 minutes late at 1207 hours same day. This will delay the returning overnight QF28.

The BNE - CBR QF1549 (the 1410 hours that was in the sky at 1629) has B717 VH-NXI and should arrive at 1759 hours, 59 late.

QF1927 (BME down to PER) has B717 VH-NXH and should arrive at 1647, 32 minutes past the timetable.

Also on 20 March, QF73 was displaying as only 25 late in its proposed pushback from SYD but B744 VH-OJU did not become airborne until 1949 hours. Same day SFO arrival should be at 1459, 94 minutes late.

Thursday 21 March 2019 has seen QF29, the 0945 hours mid morning MEL - HKG depart at 1206 hours, 141 minutes tardy. Arrival is suggested at 1740 hours, 85 late.

In its eventually to be history operation by B744s, QF63 (1135 hours late morning SYD across to JNB) often runs late. Today, it pushed back 93 late at 1308 hours. Consequently, arrival is delayed until 1759, 84 minutes behind. This will delay the 1850 hours departure of QF64, the redeye, to at least 1940 tonight South African time.

QF145 (1215 hours SYD across to AKL) departed 40 late with claimed arrival tonight at 1810, 45 minutes behind the timetable. B738 VH-XZB has the task. The aircraft had arrived 18 early at 0957 hours in SYD on QF142 ex AKL< so no standout delay reason.

The A388 on QF7 (1340 hours SYD long flight to DFW) pushed back 44 late so same day arrival is estimated at 1335 hours, 35 late.

Friday 22 March 2019 sees QF1584 from HBA up to SYD, B717 VH-YQU, arriving at 1516 hours mid afternoon, 46 late.

The 0920 hours MEL - NRT (QF79) has been late some days recently and today is no exception, with pushback at 0950 meaning estimated arrival at 1821, 41 late. QF is showing a slight delay of 10 minutes to the 1920 hours QF80 tonight overnight to MEL. Sometimes QF9 forms QF62 to BNE but by the looks of it, not tonight.

QF129 (1055 hours SYD up to PVG) departed half an hour behind schedule with projected at gate arrival becoming 31 late at 1901 hours.

While QF81 91130 hours SYD - SIN) departed 47 late, presumably favourable winds mean arrival is predicted as 1713, 28 late. I don't normally feature expected delays under half an hour but this one is a reasonable example as to how aircraft can pick up time on a gate-to-gate basis.

The B744 on QF63 (1135 hours SYD across to JNB) pushed back 57 late, so same day arrival is a forecast 1715 hours, 40 late, meaning an almost certain minimal delay to the returning QF64 redeye.

Another more than occasional tardy flight, the 1225 hours QF19 from SYD up to MNL was off blocks at 1321 so likely arrival is 47 late tonight at 1817 hours. The 1900 hours back down to SYD, QF20, will inevitably be late off its blocks.

The SYD to PEK QF107 departed 33 late with arrival tonight suggested as 2249, 34 down, slightly delaying the redeye QF108.

Later on Friday 22 March, QF450 (1630 hours afternoon MEL up to SYD airborne at 1702 with A332 VH-EBE) should arrive (after holding southwest of Goulburn) at about 1831, 36 minutes tardy.

Colleague VH-XZD on the ADL across to SYD, QF756, the 1530 hours in the air at 1622 will arrive after the above, so is at least 40 minutes later than its scheduled 1755 hours at gate arrival.

VH-EBB (an A332) on QF441, the 1430 hours mid afternoon SYD down to MEL is far worse as takeoff was not until 1629, so arrival shortly should be 1819, 134 late.

B738 VH-XZI is on QF593 (timetabled 1640 hours MEL - ADL that took off at 1801) so arrival is likely at 1835, 55 late. Opposite number QF692 (VH-VZF) is just landing in MEL as I write and should be at its allocated gate at 1820, 35 minutes behind time.

Meanwhile VH-VZL, the 1200 'high noon' DRW down to MEL was airborne at 1227 but will lose time, with expected arrival at 1842, 57 late as it had a quite extensive holding pattern near Lake Boga, Vic.

Later on Friday 22 March, QF450 (1630 hours afternoon MEL up to SYD airborne at 1702 with A332 VH-EBE) should arrive (after holding southwest of Goulburn) at about 8131, 36 minutes tardy.

Continuing with Friday 22 March, QF20 departed MNL 46 late at 1946 so expected Saturday 23 arrival is 0708, 48 late.

QF12, the far longer distance LAX - SYD should arrive on Saturday morning at 0845, 70 late, similar to its Thursday night tardy departure (71 late).

The LAX - BNE is less adversely affected but should arrive at 0659, 44 late (QF16).

QF2078 (Q400 VH-QOV, the 0850 hours MEL up to MQL airborne at 0936 hours) should arrive at 1034 hours, 34 late.

The 0920 hours MEL - NRT (QF79) departed 63 minutes late so projected arrival has become 1831 hours, 51 minutes tardy. This is the third consecutive day that A333 VH-QPJ has run QF79, but it's not yet publicly disclosed whether QF62 to BNE ot QF80 to MEL will be delayed tonight ex NRT.

As a comparison, QF29 (MEL - HKG) departed 64 late at 1049 but arrival is forecast as only four minutes late at 1619.

The SYD to LAX QF11 is often on time but today was off blocks at 1145, 95 late, so same day arrival is estimated as 0753 hours, 113 late. QF11 (transcon USA B789, earlier ex BNE on 'the 15') looks to be waiting for connectors with departure predicted 40 late at 0900 on Saturday 23 March.

QF81 from SYD to SIN pushed back 23 minutes tardy at 1153 hours with suggested arrival 1726, 41 late.

The 1755 hours SYD to SFO B744, QF73, is delayed until 2035 in its departure tonight, meaning arrival at a suggested 1540 hours in the afternoon, 135 minutes behind schedule. This is due to QF64 on Friday night pushing back in JNB at 2151 hours, 181 late with Saturday arrival in SYD translating to 1836, also 181 minutes behind the timetable. Yesterday, QF63 arrived in JNB 38 minutes late at 1713 but was there for a lot longer than the allowed turnaround. At least it was not cancelled. B744 VH-OEB is the late running aircraft.

One I'd missed - apologies - was that on Friday 22 March, QF9 from MEL to PER departed at 1807, 62 late. The PER stop was from 1922 (72 late) to 2103 (83 late) with estimated LHR arrival today (Saturday 23) at 0625, 80 late. Often the Perth stop is achieved in the allowed 90 minutes, but that was not quite so last night.

On Sunday 24 March 2019, QF117, the mid afternoon 1550 hours SYD - HKG is expected to depart 55 minutes late. It may be formed by the slightly delayed QF108 ex PEK, arriving in SYD shortly at 1433, 18 late.

UPDATE: A332 VH-EBV departed at 1652 hours and took off at 1709 so HKG arrival should be around 2304, 49 late.

Later on 24 March, QF691, the 1550 hours MEL - ADL (B738 VH-VYB) departed at 1614 but was fairly slow to take off, at 1638, so arrival should be 1731, 51 minutes behind the timetable.

Very late at night on 24 March, QF499 (B738 VH-VXR, the 2100 hours SYD down to MEL in the sky at 2150) should arrive at 2305 hours, half an hour late.

Another one for Sunday.

QF432 MEL-SYD was due to depart at 1230 the actual departure time was 1314, landed at 1529.

Reason given was that the crew were on another flight that was delayed and then landed at the other end of the terminal. To cap it off when we were waiting to push back they couldn’t find the person to drive the machine o_O

On Monday 25 March 2019, the 0945 hours MEL - HKG (QF29) is expected to depart 105 minutes late at 1130. QF30 had arrived at the same gate at 0729 this morning, a minute early. Arrival in HKG has changed to 1805, 110 late. This may delay a southbound tonight.

Although B744 VH-OJU on QF28 (1335 hours Sunday 24 SCL across to SYD) departed only a minute late and was airborne pretty much punctually at 1359, Monday arrival is suggested as 1826, 46 late, presumably due to adverse winds.

UPDATE: The delay to QF29 has risen with forecast pushback at 1300 hours for a 1935 arrival, 200 late. One of QF30 (back to MEL) or the HKG to BNE QF62 will be delayed this evening but neither yet publicly showing this information.

Also on Monday 25 March, QF117 (1550 hours afternoon SYD - HKG) was delayed for the second consecutive day, pushing back at 1754 for an estimated arrival tonight at 0001 hours (Tuesday 26), 106 minute slate. This will delay QF118 (the redeye back down to Sydney). Airxraft is A333 VH-QPE that arrived this afternoon in Sydney on QF108 at 1446, 31 minutes tardy, ex PEK.

QF107, meanwhile, departed SYD at 1411 (36 late) with PEK arrival stated as half an hour late at 2245.

On the evening of 25 March 2019, QF3, the 1925 hours SYD up to HNL is showing as delayed until 2200 in pushing back, but that latter time has passed. Arrival will be (same day) 1025 hours (145 late) or beyond, delaying the returning QF4.

Earlier, QF1, the 1700 hours flagship from SYD up to SIN and on to LHR departed exactly two hours late. The amended SIN stop is predicted from 0000 to 0135 hours, the latter 100 late on Tuesday 26 for LHR arrival at 0800 hours, 105 late.

Although Sunday 24's QF2 departed LHR on time at 2045, Monday 25 saw SIN arrival at 1832, 47 down. I haven't checked the flight path but this may be at least partly due to the India-Pakistan border problems and consequent avoidance of the latter's airspace. Departure for SYD is expected at 1955, 40 late with Tuesday 26 arrival mooted for 0650, 35 late.
