Qantas Delays/Cancellations

With the extremely heavy rainfall over Sydney, QF1 has been put back yet again with a new departure time of 2100 on Thursday 14, four hours late, meaning the SIN stop on Friday should be from 0155 to an unrealistic 0250 hours - more like 0325 going on usual practice - and LHR arrival probably later than the claimed 0905, which would be 170 minutes tardy.

Also on Thursday, QF4763, teh 1830 hours SYD down to MEL was cancelled.

QF479, the 1845 hours on the same busy route pushed back 32 late but MEL expected arrival has blown out to 2116 hours, 56 late.

Also a scheduled 1845 hours, QF2042 from SYD to DBO is displaying as altered to depart at 1955 but is much later than that. Another rural flight, QF2118 (1900 hours north to CFS) was off blocks 68 late, so its arrival looks to be 2113 hours, 58 minutes behind the timetable.

QF1585 from SYD down to HBA pushed back 61 late at 1956 hours so deferred arrival is a predicted 2140 hours, 50 late.

AFFer JohnK favourite, QF548 from SYD to BNE (the 1900 hours northbound) was off blocks at 2011 hours so a 2045 hours, 75 late arrival should be what occurs. The 1900 hours down to MEL (QF459) was a bit more fortunate, departing 59 late for a suggested southern capital at gate arrival of 2142, 67 late.

QF2217 (1905 hours SYD - ABX) is badly delayed by more than an hour but colleague QF2008 managed to push back in SYD only four late at 1914 for a claimed arrival at 2022, 12 late in northerly TMW.

Earlier, QF444 (mid afternoon 1530 hours MEL - SYD) got the flic as did QF468, the northbound 1615 hours ex MEL. QF450, the following 1630 hours MEL - SYD was also cancelled, and so was QF474, the 1915 hours ex MEL. Another cancellation is QF484 (1915 hours MEL up to SYD).

QF458, peak period 1800 hours MEL - SYD is expected to depart shortly at 2040 hours. QF460, the 1830 hours northbound managed to be off blocks at 2034 with SYD arrival estimated as 2200 hours, 125 minutes late. QF478, 1845 hours scheduled ex MEL departed at 1959 (ahead of QF460) so 478 should arrive at gate at roughly 2130, 80 late, showing the level of variability.

QF462 (1900 hours MEL up to SYD) pushed back 62 late so arrival is suggested as 2120 tionight mid evening, 55 late. QF466, the 1945 hours on this most popular of routes is predicted to depart an hour late.

QF1484 CBR-SYD (VH-QOB) is diverting back to CBR due to weather in Sydney.
Similarly QF1522 CBR-SYD (B717 VH-YQY) 18 25 hours service is diverting back to CBR.
Also affected by tonight's weather, QF148 AKL-SYD (B738 VH-VZU) is diverting to MEL.
QF2031 ARM-SYD (VH-SBT) is diverting to Tamworth.
QF496 MEL-SYD (B738 VH-VYD) the 17 45 service, seems to be diverting back to MEL.

Another diversion is QF764, the scheduled 1655 hours ADL across to SYD airborne at 1746 with B738 VH-VXR. It should arrive in MEL at about 2144 compared with its timetabled SYD arrival of 1920, so another group who'll probably be forced to spend the night in MEL.

I am not there but from the look of the BOM site, the weather continues to be atrocious in Sydney (unless you're a drought-stricken plant, or bird like a duck). A further storm is rolling in through Homebush.

QF148 from AKL to SYD is also diverting to MEL with B738 VH-VZU suggested as arriving at about 2148 compared with its scheduled Sydney arrival of 2015 hours.

QF549 from BNE down to SYD is diverting to CBR with arrival for VH-VYI at 2152, 132 minutes after its scheduled arrival in SYD.

To 2130 hours, SYD had only 11.6mm of rain compared with Badgerys Creek at more than 27mm, but more is on the way.

....
Similarly QF1522 CBR-SYD (B717 VH-YQY) 18 25 hours service is diverting back to CBR....L.

Interestingly, VH-YQY on Thursday 14 March arrived back in CBR at 1925 as Silvia picked up, but is now operating an empty ('ferry') flight QF6200 from CBR to of all places CNS. It took off at 2151 hours.

As at 2200 hours, aircraft were wending their way into SYD but there was a very large number to be accommodated.

B744 VH-OJU on QF25, the 2135 hours SYD - HND has been altered to depart at 2230.

Some reasonably extensive domestic delays in Melbourne tonight due to weather in other parts of the network. Whilst I can’t confirm if it was always scheduled as such QF462 MEL to SYD is being run by a 747 and I was advised when checking in it was subbed in to deal with the delays ...

QF462 (B744 VH-OEB, the 1900 hours MEL - SYD) departed at 2002. However arrival was not until 2211 hours, 106 minutes late.

...UPDATE: By 1220 hours on Thursday, QF had further put back expected QF1 departure to 1930 hours tonight, meaning LHR Friday arrival at 0805, 110 late.

On Thursday 14 March, QF1, the 1700 hours SYD - SIN - LHR (A388 VH-OQF) departed at 2242. SIN stop is now said to be (Friday 15) from a terrible 0250 to 0415 with LHR arrival expected at 1030 hours, 255 late.

The all day turnaround means QF2 ex LHR on Friday night is (in theory) unaffected.

As at 23:23 QF1 is yet to take off. At SYD they're using 34L for landings and 16R for departures so it'll be a while...

QF35 departed at 1745 hours - so much for the '1700 hours' claim of QF. SIN arrival should be at 2125 hours, 260 minutes late. The redeye QF36 back down to MEL is predicted to push back in SIN at 2320 - I'd have though 2305 might have been achievable, but there may be a lack of available slots - with Friday 15 MEL arrival 0945 hours, 225 late.
In Nov 2017 when I had a delayed QF38 departing after midnight, the flight crew said that SIN changes to single runway ops overnight, thus adding extra delay.

Thursday’s QF25, scheduled 2135 service to HND, finally departed SYD at 0014 on Friday with an expected arrival time of 0706.

On Friday 15 March 2019, QF418, the 0900 hours MEL - SYD has been cancelled. In the opposite direction, southbound, the 0845 hours ex SYD (QF461) has also received the boot.

This will be a result of aircraft (and crews!) not being where they ought be following last night's Sydney storms.

As predicted above although I didn't know the exact time, QF93 (0940 hours MEL - LAX A388) should depart at 1215 hours with same day arrival 0805, 115 late.

This is due to QF36 departing SIN at 2343 hours on Thursday 14's late evening, 243 late with expected MEL arrival this morning at 1010, 250 late.

QF1461, the 0620 hours SYD - CBR early morning was cancelled. The 0900 hours, QF1467, should depart 35 late.

The 0710 hours SYD up to northern NSW (TMW) is expected to depart an hour late. QF2040, the 0715 SYD - DBO is similar with pushback predicted 75 late.

QF1790 and QF1792 from BNE to TSV, the 0855 and 1410 hours have also been cancelled. QF1591, the 0910 hours BNE - ADL is expected to push back 105 late at 1055 hours.

On Friday 15 March 2019...QF93 (0940 hours MEL - LAX A388) should depart at 1215 hours with same day arrival 0805, 115 late.

This is due to QF36 departing SIN at 2343 hours on Thursday 14's late evening, 243 late with expected MEL arrival this morning at 1010, 250 late.....

QF93 pushed back at 1233 with LAX arrival estimated as 0923 hours, 193 late. Not sure if my original republished estimated LAX time above was accurate, or out by an hour.

Also on Friday 15 March, QF81 (1130 hours SYD up to SIN) departed 165 minutes late at 1415 this afternoon with arrival suggested as 1920, 155 late. QF52 from SIN down to BNE, the 2000 hours should depart at 2045 tonight.

Earlier, QF127 (0930 hours morning SYD - HKG) was off its blocks at 1025 with arrival at 1651 this afternoon local time, 61 late.

Thursday’s QF1 finally departed SYD at 0010 on Friday, with an anticipated arrival in SIN at 0443.

This 14 March ex SYD was in SIN on Friday 15 from 0503 to 0708 (a stay longer than timetabled, with departure 433 minutes late. LHR arrival is predicted at 1350 on Friday, 455 late, but due to the all day turnaround tonight's QF2 should be unaffected.
