Continuing with Friday 8 March, B7389 VH-VXI on QF790, the 1010 hours mid morning SYD - ASP had almost completed its taxiing by 1112 hours, so it should be about 45 minutes late arriving. This flight pushed back at 1021, but it's not clear why it took so long to taxi to the end of runway 34L.

VH-VXR on QF840, also a 1010 hours scheduled departure but to DRW not ASP is worse with taxiing still underway in SYD as at 1117 hours.

The 0920 hours MEL - NRT, QF79 departed at 0937 with arrival expected half an hour tardy at 1810 early this evening.

UPDATE: QF790 was airborne at 1115 hours.

QF423, the 1000 hours SYD down to MEL (B738 VH-VYK) is also badly late, with departure at 1120 and takeoff at 1139 meaning anticipated arrival at 1255 will be 80 minutes late.

The LAX to MEL QF94 arrived on Friday at 1038, 48 late.

Continuing with Friday 8 March 2019, QF41 (1350 hours SYD - CGK that is often on time or early) has been delayed in pushing back to an estimated 1435. This will at least slightly delay QF42 this evening ex Indonesia.

UPDATE: This flight was off blocks in SYD at 1516, 86 late but arrival in CGK is expected to be less than half that number of minutes tardy, at 1812 - 42 late.

QF93 is in the wars, with this timetabled 1055 hours MEL to LAX departing at 1518 hours, 263 late. Expected arrival, same day, is 1021 hours, 236 late. A388 VH-OQH, which had arrived in MEL from SIN on QF36 at 0625 hours (25 late) is the aircraft.

In these circumstances, passengers for JFK are normally placed on later AA flights than QF15 as the latter is meant to depart LAX at 0820 hours.

Continuing with Friday 8 March...The LAX to MEL QF94 arrived on Friday at 1038, 48 late.

This led to QF35, the lunchtime 1220 hours MEL - SIN (A388 VH-OQI) departing 62 late for a projected at gate arrival at 1740, 35 down.

This flight has only been on time' (that is, arrived at its SIN gate within 15 minutes of schedule) once in the past week. Poor compared with local carrier SQ.

Returning flight QF791 departed ASP at 1310, 40 down with SYD arrival suggested as 1740, 50 minutes tardy.

In more on 8 March 2019,. A332 VH-EBL on QF772 from PER to MEL, the 0925 hours that took off at 1210 this afternoon is arriving at 1822, 142 late. This morning it arrived PER at 0833, 18 late on QF772 ex MEL so something must have gone wrong in Perth.

Earlier, QF432 (1230 hours MEL - SYD) was cancelled as was/will be QF454, QF496 and QF464, respectively the 1730, 1745 and 1930 hours on the same route.

Southbound QF451 from SYD to MEL has B738 VH-VZD and is the 1715 hours airborne at 1758. Predicted arrival is 34 minutes late at 1924 this evening.

Also on Saturday 9 March 2019, QF2180, the 0750 hours SYD to drought affected MRZ took off at 0844, so arrival for Q300 VH-SBG should be at 1008 hours, 43 late.

According to #1 son who is on this QF26 flight, reason given to pax is "flight crew change a/c one crew member ill"
Currently sitting at CNS .
Edit: pax just told push back in 20 .

On 9 March, QF26 was in CNS from 0556 to 0718, so SYD arrival should be 1055 hours, 80 late.

What I thought was interesting was that Qantas knew that QF26 was going to land in Cairns a good 20 hours before departure from HND (pax notified 0021h JST 8/3/19, along with W-J upgrade).

If crew member was ill, QF knew well before departure. Do they not trust Japan medical care?

One wonders if max operating hours meant a crew change in CNS (2 pilot crew vs 3 perhaps?) and if something like gastro then exclusion period typically 48hrs from last diarrhoea/vomit so yes possibly they did know well in advance crew would be short. Japan medical care probably nothing to do with it (and is typically very good FWIW).

More delays for QF26 on arrival at Sydney. Delayed due to "unknown material on runway"; by the time that was resolved and the plane could proceed QF26 had lost its gate and buses were being organised to transfer passengers to the terminal.
This could really impact on time in the QF bus lounge for my rwo sons. Just messaged me that they're on the QF bus after very quick immigration and baggage claim.

Continuing with Saturday 9 March, QF129, the 1055 hours SYD - PVG was off its blocks 34 late, so arrival has become an estimated 1916 hours, 46 late. A333 VH-QPA is the aircraft, which had not been used since yesterday arriving in SYD mid afternoon at 1613, 13 late on QF923 ex CNS. Perhaps Saturday's delay was because of late connecting passengers, or congestion on a busy Saturday morning.

Earlier, QF2 from LHR/ SIN arrived in SYD at 0720 hours, 65 late.

QF63 from SYD to JNB, the B744, departed 20 late at 1155 with suggested arrival half an hour late at 1705.

Assuming it was Gastro, no crew, pilots or cabin crew can operate until they are cleared by a DAME Dr in Australia, they can only be cleared to pax home.

Whatever the cause of the illness, going via CNS where a replacement tech crew would have been waiting, was the best option to cause the minimum amount of delay (2 hours all going to plan) vs waiting for a replacement to fly to Tokyo, have rest and then fly (which would have added probably a 24 hours delay).

A388 VH-OQG only departed LHR on Friday 8 March ten minutes late at 2055, but SIN arrival has become 1815, half an hour late. Saturday 9 departure ex the Lion City is predicted at 1945 hours, also half an hour tardy as is Sunday 10 arrival in SYD at 0645 hours.

Also on Saturday 9 March, QF127 from SYD to HKG arrived only 12 late this afternoon but the return flight QF128, the 1825 hours ex HKG (A388 VH-OQA) did not depart until 1900 hours. At 1917 it was taxiing behind QF30 (B789 VH-ZNA, the 1900 hours HKG - MEL), so the two class leaders were next to one another. This might not often occur.

The illness could be anything, though the most likely is always a cold. So, presumably an SO, as you can go without him, but you are then restricted to the 2 man crewing limits. Basically Cairns is as far as you can get. In Cairns both Captain and FO would have had to be replaced.
