Qantas Delays/Cancellations

QF130 (A332 VH-EBO, the Tuesday 16 April scheduled 1950 hours from PVG down to SYD was airborne at 2113 hours. Wednesday 17 sees forecast arrival as 56 minutes late at 0921 hours.

A333 VH-QPE is operating as presumably empty ('ferry') flight QF6003 from MEL to SYD, looking like positioning. It took off at 0913 hours.

Winds are at 57kmh at MEL and gusting up to 63kmh so less than optimal.

QF81 has quite a good timekeeping record but this 1010 hours SYD - SIN on Wednesday 17 April was put back to an expected 1130 hours pushback, a time that's passed.

The lunchtime 1210 hours SYD - MNL, QF19 is predicted to depart 50 late.

UPDATE: 'The 81' departed SYD at 1206 hours with projected arrival at 1825 hours, 95 minutes late.

A333 VH-QPE is operating as presumably empty ('ferry') flight QF6003 from MEL to SYD, looking like positioning. It took off at 0913 hours...

As at 1545, VH-QPE had yet to be used on a passenger flight ex SYD.

QF19 departed 48 minutes late from SYD at 1258 with MNL estimated arrival showing as 1832, 32 late.

Also on 17 April, QF445 (B738 VH-XZD), the 1530 hours SYD - MEL airborne at 1644 should arrive at 1803 hours, 58 late.

QF449 (VH-VZU, the 1630 hours southbound) was similar in taking to the sky at 1734 so MEL arrival has become an estimated 1858, 53 late.

Northbound QF468, the 1615 ex MEL airborne at 1707 isn't as bad with at gate arrival indicated as 35 late (1815 hours) for B738 VH-VZA.

QF6113 (presumably a 'positioning' flight without passengers) is operating HBA to MEL with B738 VH-VXB, having taken off at 1727 late this arvo. It arrived in HBA on Tuesday 16 April on QF1015 at 1640, half an hour late but must have then become faulty. Last night, QF1016 (in one delay I missed) arrived MEL at 2323 hours instead of 1805 with VH-VXJ, which then operated QF481, the 1855 hours evening meal time MEL - PER that took off at 0013 this morning, about five hours late.

On 17 April, QF834 (B738 VH-VZT, the 1710 hours MEL - CBR in the sky at 1758) is arriving at 1846, 31 late.

QF407, the 0715 hours SYD - MEL morning flight was cancelled yesterday (17 April) and is the same today (Thursday 18 April).

The LAX down to MEL second stringer, QF96 (B789 VH-ZNA) should arrive at 0906, 41 late.

QF1582, the 0630 hours HBA up to SYD (B717 VH-YQW) took off at 0714 so arrival should be at about 0859, 39 late.

Earlier on Thursday 28 April, QF63, the 1055 hours late morning SYD - JNB B744 departed at 1207 hours with same day arrival estimated as 1745, 45 late.

Also on Thursday 18 April, QF1, the 1555 hours SYD - SIN - LHR departed unusually late at 1932. The intermediate stop should be from 0140 to 0305 on Good Friday (19), so the latter will be 190 minute slate for expected LHR arrival at 0930 hours, 185 late.

QF426, the Good Friday (19 April) 1100 hours MEL - SYD took off at 1138. A332 VH-EBJ should arrive at gate at roughly 1255, half an hour late.

QF79 was off blocks in MEL 34 late at 0944, with arrival estimated as 1905, half an hour behind.

The 1235 hours SYD - SCL (QF27) pushed back 64 late at 1339, so estimated arrival has become 1215 hours, 70 late. This will delay QF28 that returns overnight to SYD.

Flagship QF1 pushed back in SYD only seven minutes late at 1602 with SIN arrival said to be 2200, 15 minutes early. However the flight is expected to then not depart until 0125 on Saturday 20, 90 minutes tardy with LHR arrival 0755, also 90 late.

Good Friday (19 April 2019's) QF117 redeye from HKG down to SYD, the 2235 hours, took off at 0114 on Saturday 20 with A332 VH-EBS. Arrival should be at 1227 hours, 147 minutes late. There's not an obvious reason for this delay, as the plane (under the new timetable) arrived in HKG at 0517 on Friday morning, 17 late, having taken off from SYD on Holy Thursday at 2214, 54 minutes after scheduled pushback.

The 1010 hours morning SYD - SIN, QF81 is expected to push back at 1525 hours mid afternoon, 315 minutes tardy with arrival becoming 2130, 280 minutes late.

Thanks to the generous turnaround time in SIN - again showing how wise this is if slots are available and it's otherwise feasible - tonight's QF82, the southbound redeye, should not be as badly affected. QF expects departure 95 late at 2245 with Easter Sunday SYD at gate arrival of 0815, 75 late but a heck of a lot better than almost five hours delayed as is the northbound expectation.

QF575 (0825 hours SYD - PER, A332 VH-EBJ) was in the sky at 0917 so delayed arrival is 1200 'high noon', half an hour behind schedule.

The 1210 hours SYD - PEK was showing as on time but this QF107 is expected to depart 100 late at 1350 hours, so QF108 tonight (redeye back down to SYD) will be delayed by at least an hour in pushback.

Continuing with Easter Saturday (20 April 2019), QF3 (1921 hours from SYD north to HNL) is expected to depart at 2125 with same day arrival, given the marked time change, at 1045, 135 late. This will delay Saturday's southbound QF4 back down to SYD.

The SYD - HND '25' has a more minor delay, from 2050 to an expected 2120 in pushing back.

Easter Sunday finds unusual 'motive power' for QF44, the DPS - SYD in the shape of A333 VH-QPD that took off at 0208 hours, 223 minutes after scheduled 2225 hours Saturday night pushback. SYD arrival should be 0926, 181 minutes tardy. Saturday's QF43 had departed SYD at 2015 hours, 200 late, explaining why 'the 44' is delayed.

The LAX to MEL QF12 (A388 VH-OQG) is arriving 31 late at 0801 hours, but as usual given the generous several hours turnaround allowance until the QF35 departs, this ought not on its own result in any delays.

QF128 from HKG down to SYD is far worse with B789 VH-ZNC likely to arrive at 0957 hours, 182 late as last night its scheduled 1930 hours departure was delayed until 2300. On Saturday morning the same aircraft had been 85 late arriving in SYD, but the northbound QF117 yesterday was better, arriving HKG at 1823, 23 late, so not sure what went wrong for the current QF118.

ZNC is again rostered on 'the 127' on Sunday 21 so its 1020 scheduled departure has become an estimated 1125 hours, not much more than minimum turnaround.

QF98, the HKG down to BNE redeye has a more minor delay with arrival for class leader VH-QPA expected at 0733 hours, 33 late.

In more on Easter Sunday (21 April), QF82 arrived SYD (ex HKG) at 0842 (102 late) due to yesterday's very late departure of QF81. The aircraft is retuirning to HKG on the 1010 hours QF81 that as I write is already a little late.

The B744 to JNB is also tardy, with departure suggested as 75 minutes late at 1210 this afternoon. This flight normally makes up time on a gate-to-gate basis.

Being school holidays and also Easter, long lines at Sydney international security may be a problem not helping punctual departures.

Continuing with Easter Sunday 2019, QF127, the delayed 1020 hours SYD - HKG pushed back at 1135 with predicted arrival 1910, 70 late.

QF3 was late on Saturday 20 April ex SYD, so the return QF4 departed at 1307 - 137 late, meaning Sunday evening arrival at a likely 1847 hours, 107 late.

Also today, QF10 LHR-PER (B787 VH-ZNF) has a revised arrival at 14 37, 162 min tardy.

Apart from the occasional cancellation, this must be one of its most delayed trips.

In further on Sunday 21, QF63 was off blocks in SYD at 1232, 97 minutes late. JNB same day arrival should be 1814, 74 late, so the tardiness of QF64 will be more than was previously suggested.

QF431 (1200 'high noon' SYD - MEL that took off at 1323 hours with B738 VH-VXF) is arriving at 1439, 64 late.

Due to 'the 107' being delayed yesterday, ex SYD, the PEK to SYD redeye QF108 (A332 VH-EBS) is arriving at 1430, 70 late on Sunday 21.

Saturday 20 April's QF10 departed LHR at 1459 hours, 169 late, arriving PER on Easter Sunday (21) at 1448, 173 late. It then pushed back at 1612 hours, 167 late with MEL arrival occurring at 2138, 163 late for B789 VH-ZNF. This aircraft is proceeding to SFO on the QF49 that is expected to depart by QF two hours late at 2255. SFO arrival is predicted (same day) at 2000.

As QF50 is then due off blocks at SFO at 2100 hours on Sunday 21, expect it to be at least slightly delayed. Too early yet to make a prediction that's remotely accurate as it depends on QF49's running.

'The 49' has to my mind a great schedule for leisure, VFR (and many business) travellers, as the evening arrival means one can check straight into an hotel and after a suitable walk around and bite to eat, retire for the night. I'm in the Drron camp of detesting super early morning air arrivals. Not all businessmen and women will share my view but I often wonder how well they can really cope with appointments starting at say 0930 hours after such a massive time change (admittedly even worse travelling east) and difficulty of sleeping on a plane whatever the configuration and class. It just isn't as comfortable/ comforting as a twinette or roomette sleeping berth on a train.

Easter Monday (22 April 2019) has QF44, the DPS - SYD redeye (A332 VH-EBS) arriving at an estimated 0805 hours, 100 minutes tardy.

VH-EBS then formed the thrice weekly SYD - KIX (QF33) that in theory, being timetabled to push back at 0930, should have been able to get away punctually. However it did so at 1026 and took off at 1050, so predicted arrival has become 42 late at 1942 tonight, delaying the returning redeye QF34.

QF485 (A333 VH-QPI, the 0935 hours MEL - PER) took off at 1122 with arrival put back to 1318, 93 late. After it arrived in SYD yesterday morning on QF24 ex BKK, it wasn't used again until this morning when on the 0700 hours SYD down to MEL (QF409) it was delayed and did not become airborne until 0902 hours.
