Qantas Delays/Cancellations

We've just been advised that the 30 ppl who are connecting to qf93 may not have a viable connection! Looks like it could be an 'interesting" day. Edit. Now advised aircraft is unserviceable and we all get off
Edit. Now sitting in the QP waiting for things to be sorted. I just had a quick look and found adl to syd to bne to sfo to lax. Oh god, I hope not!

FlyboyAl, nothing beats a man on the spot: great posts. Sorry for you.

Interesting that you have 30 endeavouring to connect to LAX on 'the 93.' That's more than six per cent of the 484 seats on a QF A388, and shows (again) how important connecting 'traffic' is for all these international flights.

The defective aircraft is B738 VH-VXF that arrived in ADL on Tuesday 30 April at 2210 hours, 10 late, from PER as QF584.

If you could let us know onto which flight you were rebooked, that would be very kind.

In such a situation would the Adelaidians be given taxi vouchers (if they lacked a car at the airport) and informed to come back tomorrow morning, or be put up for the night in MEL, SYD or BNE? The difficulty is that almost all "viable" options on any airline to get to LAX require a morning departure from MEL, SYD or BNE. QF49 operates tonight at 2055 hours from MEL to SFO (not LAX) but may not have 30 spare seats (it looked pretty full in Y with a quick Expert Flyer search), while the evening departure ex MEL, QF95 for LAX, only now departs on Mondays and Fridays.

I hope you don't have to go via BNE (QF55 ex there at 2035 tonight).

I just floated the qf49 solution with local staff but it is out of their hands at present.

Provided it's not overbooked, logic tells me there will be some 'no shows' on QF49 tonight ex MEL. Which class are you booked in?

QF must believe you'd enjoy a roundabout trip via DFW and LGA. Some AFFers would!

In more on Wednesday 1 May 2019, Q300 VH-SBB on QF2180, the 0725 hours morning SYD - MRZ was still taxiing at 0905 for departure, so will be at least 90 minutes late arriving on the dry plains.

Looks like it is now adl syd sfo lax...

Which means, does it not, that you won't be departing SYD until 1740 this afternoon on QF73?

If you had to rise at say 0330 CST this morning (0400 AEST), it might be about 34 - 35 hours before you land in LAX. Some older passengers would find that amount of time in Y onboard (and the number of connections, plus waiting in airports en route) challenging.

Continuing with 1 May 2019, QF415 from SYD to MEL, the 0800 hours (A332 VH-EBG) took off at 0855 with arrival at 1012 hours, 37 minutes behind schedule.

Yes. You are correct. Will try schmoozing the lounge dragons in syd to improve our seating.

In further on Wednesday 1 May 2019, QF107 (1210 hours SYD - PEK) is predicted to depart 80 minutes late, with arrival at 2315, an hour late. Redeye QF108 from PEK (the 2345 hours) will be at least a little tardy in pushing back.

QF33 from SYD to KIX pushed back at 1016 hours this morning, 21 late with arrival suggested as 1930, half an hour late.

The 1015 hours midmorning HBA up to MEL, QF1012 (B738 VH-XZD) was off its blocks at 1053 hours, so arrival has become 1217, 47 late.

QF6113 - a flight number usually indicating an empty flight - 'ferry' - is operating from ADL to MEL with B738 VH-XZE (not the aircraft that failed in ADL this morning, causing FlyboyAl's rerouting to LAX). QF6113 was airborne at 1034 and is arriving at about 1218 hours.

QF16 (VH-ZND, LAX-BNE) diverted to NOU this morning. The return flight QF15 is cancelled.

Was this a medical diversion? The aircraft was airborne from NOU at 0800 hours on Wednesday 1 May, arriving BNE at 0912, 187 minutes late. A long shift.

At face value it's odd that QF15/QF16 today have been cancelled, as (provided the plane did not require repairs or maintenance on arrival in BNE) it should have been possible to get 'the 15' underway by around 1100 hours.

Do you mean a 744? QF doesn’t have any 748s ;)
I must have been dreaming about a 748!
Tried the girls in the QP in syd and we are still in steerage on the 744.
Also had a major issue with bags. When we left adl we were told to collect bags in syd and recheck them to sfo. When no bags arrived in syd went to baggage services and were told that we collect our bags in LAX after arriving into SFO and clearing customs.. No ammount of querying this would get a different opinion.
I wasn't happy with this so waited until we got to the QP.
The lounge girls got it sorted and we now collect bags in SFO and transfer them to AA. If we had gone with what we were told at baggage services downstairs, I don't know what would have happenned.
Ah, the joys of international travel.

'The 107' pushed back in SYD at 1335 hours, 85 late with predicted PEK arrival 2328, 73 late. Redeye QF108 is forecast to be off blocks in PEK at 0030 on Thursday 2 May, 45 late, with arrival in SYD at 1410, 50 late tomorrow arvo.

B744 VH-OEH is on the JNB overnight to SYD QF64 with arrival on Wednesday 1 May at 1526 hours, 31 minutes behind schedule. This plane should convey FlyboyAl to SFO as QF73 at 1740, so in theory it has quite a few minutes more than minimum turnaround for this size aircraft that is usually about 100 - 110 minutes.

17:50 and still sitting on the deck in syd.

With yet more on 1 May 2019, QF3 (1915 hours SYD - HNL) is predicted to push back 40 late, with arrival 25 late at 0855 same day.

UPDATE: The projected departure of QF3 has become 2020.

FURTHER UPDATE: It's predicted to depart at 2040. Sometimes not a good sign when delays are extended. On occasion the eventual result has been a cancellation.

And so, it departed then, with same arrival predicted as 0949 hours, 79 late. QF4, the 1050 hours same day HNL down to SYD is showing as an 1115 hours departure. This may be a little unrealistic if the projected arrival of 'the 3' doesn't improve.
