Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Saturday 18 December 2021's QF1 was similar to the previous day's, with VH-ZND arriving DRW at 1928 hours, 12 early, but then taking off at 2216 meaning LHR arrival is suggested as 0618 hours on Sunday 19, 73 minutes late.

On Sunday 19 December, the second and final leg of QF2 due to depart DRW at 1315 saw takeoff at 1427 for B789 VH-ZNG after a lengthy stay, meaning suggested SYD arrival 44 minutes late at 1949 hours.

The following QF2 (i.e. scheduled to push back in LHR at 0950 on Sunday 19) did not take off until 1114, probably the latest since this flight's recommencement. On Monday 20, expected at gate arrival in DRW has become 1249, 64 minutes behind. If so, inevitable that the second sector down to SYD (the 1315 hours) will be delayed. Aircraft is B789 VH-ZNF.

This QF2 arrived DRW at 1257 hours, 72 minutes tardy today (20 December) but the 1315 hours onward SYD-bound leg did not become airborne until 1559, so the aircraft was on the ground in DRW for around 2.75 hours. Anticipated SYD arrival is 2117 mid evening, 132 minutes late, which ought still be OK for connecting to the 2155 hours LAX-bound sister B789 operating QF11.

On Monday 20 December, QF2 ended up arriving SYD at 2127. QF11 (B789 VH-ZNF) on the 2155 hours SYD - LAX was the same aircraft working 'through' so it was not airborne until 2322.

LAX arrival should be at 1721 hours, 51 minutes late.

Monday 20 December's QF2 (B789 VH_ZNH), the 0950 hours midmorning from LHR, took off at 1030 with Tuesday 21 DRW arrival suggested as 1219, 34 minutes behind, probably leading to a delayed arrival for the flight in SYD tonight where it's timetabled to be at the gate at 1905 hours.

On Wednesday the initial QF69 from MEL to DEL via ADL was said to be full by QFi management in media articles.

A332 VH-EBM formed the 0925 hours MEL - ADL that was airborne at 0948, arriving at 1024, nine minutes late. However the second sector, the 1115 hours did not take off until 1206, so estimated DEL arrival has become 2014, 124 minutes behind schedule, so looks like adverse winds en route. This will mean that the inaugural QF70 back to MEL is heavily delayed, as it's timetabled to push back at 1955 hours.

Also on Wednesday 22 December, B717 VH-NXR must be substituting for a failed aircraft as it operated QF1571 from CFS down to SYD, arriving 25 minutes early at 1325 but then formed the very late 1105 hours SYD down to LST (QF1563) that did not become airborne until 1445, meaning arrival at 1610 (fast trip!), which was 200 minutes late.

Flagship flight QF1's initial leg on Thursday 23 December 2021 just pushed back in SYD at 1904 AEDT, 139 minutes late. Claimed arrival at DRW is 2155, 135 minutes behind. This may mean a delayed arrival in LHR tomorrow should there be further delays en route, though maybe time will be picked up. It may be hard to shorten the 90 minute scheduled stop in DRW. Aircraft is B789 VH-ZNF.

This aircraft arrived in SYD this morning 26 minutes tardy at 0646 hours on QF12 ex LAX, so it's had 10 hours to undergo any required or advisable minor maintenance.

139 minutes is the most delayed I've yet seen for QF1, which often since its resumption (albeit previous iterations were not via DRW) departs SYD (and DRW) pretty much on time.

UPDATE: QF1 took off from SYD at 1923 hours. If it can push back in DRW at 2320, 130 late, arrival in London may be at about 0630 on 24 December, 85 minutes behind the schedule. That would give sufficient time to turn the aircraft around for its QF2 southbound trip.

Tonight's QF1 expected DRW arrival has changed to 2210, 150 minutes late. If it can depart at 2330, LHR arrival should be at about 0640 on Christmas Eve, still giving in theory sufficient time for a turnaround for QF2, the 0950 hours.

The delayed QF1 took off from DRW at 2342 hours on Thursday 23 December with expected arrival at LHR becoming 0631, 86 minutes late on Friday 24. This gives more than three hours for the aircraft to be prepared for QF2, the 0950 hours back down to DRW and SYD.

Also yesterday, QF2 (B789 VH-ZNJ) was airborne from LHR at 1013 but is not predicted to arrive in DRW until 1247, 62 minutes behind, so arrival in SYD tonight will be at least half an hour late.

QF9, the Thursday 23 1845 hours MEL - DRW - LHR (B789 VH-ZNC) did not take off until 2152, arriving DRW at 0014 on Friday 24 (169 minutes tardy). It then became airborne at 0152 with claimed LHR arrival on the dot of 0900 hours, 130 minutes behind schedule. If it forms QF10, the 1120 hours LHR - DRW - MEL it should be able to depart at or close to time.

It's unclear why QF9 was delayed given that ZNC had been in Melbourne all day yesterday from 0831 hours, having arrived on QF94 ex LAX 36 minutes late.

Friday 24 December has seen the delayed QF1 (VH-ZNF) arrive LHR at 0649 hours, 104 minutes late. It is returning to Oz as QF2, the 0950 hours ex LHR.

VH-ZNC on the also tardy QF9 arrived LHR at 0859, 129 minutes behind schedule. It will operate the 1120 hours LHR - DRW - MEL QF10.

Christmas Day 2021 sees QF67 (A332 VH-EBV), the 0610 hours SYD - ADL - DEL delayed until at least 0900 in its SYD departure. QF68 back to SYD will also be tardy.

Suggested DEL arrival is 1830, 170 minutes late but too early to be definitive.

The MEL and SYD Indian QFi new routes are suffering from frequent unpunctuality.

UPDATE: QF67 pushed back at 0922 hours, taking off at 0937, about 190 minutes late. ADL arrival is estimated at 1050 hours, 185 late.

The delayed QF67 on Christmas Day pushed back at 1142 and was airborne from ADL at 1155, more than three hours late. DEL arrival is suggested as 1831 hours, 171 minutes behind the timetable.

The 1755 hours ADL - SYD QF68 is unlikely to depart prior to 2000.

QF67 arrived DEL at 1838, 178 minutes late on Christmas Day. The return QF68 (the 1755 hours) took off at 2039, with Boxing Day (Sunday 26 December 2021) SYD arrival likely in about an hour at 137, 139 minutes behind schedule.

The 24 December QF2 arrived DRW on Christmas Day at 1345, half an hour late, and subsequently MEL at 2057, 32 minutes behind with B789 VH-ZNC.

On Boxing Day, 26 December, QF2 from LHR (VH-ZND) arrived DRW at 1316, 31 late despite on Christmas Day having taken off early from LHR at 1000, only 10 minutes after scheduled pushback. Aircraft is VH-ZND.

QF12, the Monday 27 December 2021 LAX - SYD due to pushback mid evening at 2030 hours was airborne at 2147 with B789 VH-ZNK. Anticipated arrival on Wednesday 29 is 0708 hours, 48 minutes late.

On the same Monday, QF9 (1845 hours MEL - DRW - LHR) took off at a delayed 1955, making its intermediate stop from 2219 hours, 54 late, and taking off at 2355, arriving LHR at 0733 hours on Tuesday 28, 43 minutes behind schedule.

Thursday 30 December 2021 sees QF9, the early evening 1845 hours MEL - DRW - LHR taking off at 1937 with B789 VH-ZNE. Arrival in the NT capital should be at 201 hours, 36 minutes late. It will be hard for the 2255 hours DRW - LHR second sector to have a timely takeoff.

This morning, that plane arrived on QF94 at 0826 in MEL, 36 late at 0821 hours.

Qantaslink flight QF2034 the Sydney to Armidale 18:50 service cancelled on Monday 3 January. Seeing the seat allocation with only about a handful of people and many Dash 8s in the parking area at T3 SYD right now I'm strongly believing it has been cancelled due to low load. Pax moved to the 19.10 service to Tamworth followed by a late night bus to Armidale.

No thanks, I've asked to be moved to the next SYD-ARM service tomorrow and used my PCP $100 voucher for a cheap airport hotel. I don't want to risk driving at close to midnight after travelling since 2pm and a fresh night and flight is much safer and so $50 well spent.

QF1960/61 DRW-ASP-DRW, scheduled to be operated by a QQ E190, cancelled this afternoon and (some) southbound pax likely accommodated on QF825 which re-routed DRW-ASP-BNE
