Qantas Delays/Cancellations

24 hours currently.....
Wednesday : That being from Perth, as B789 VH-ZNA eventually departed Melbourne at 00:44 AEDT with QF9, and arrived in Perth at 01:13 AWST this morning, 7 hours 58 minutes late. The new Perth departure time 24 hours late at 18:50 AWST this evening, would seem to indicate a crewing issue due to the delay leaving Melbourne.

Qantas Flight Status is showing a flow on effect, in that today's QF9 is shown to depart Melbourne on time, however the departure from Perth has been delayed by 2 hours to 20:50 AWST, so that there is separation between the two QF9 flights.

Wednesday : QF63 SYD-JNB (B789 VH-ZNF) was 48 minutes late pushing back and 67 minutes late on take off from Sydney this morning, with arrival in Jo'burg showing a delay of between 40 & 50 minutes depending on source.

Wednesday : Departure times now posted for the flow on flights from the delayed QF9; namely QF10 LHR-PER-MEL & QF93 MEL-LAX, show very little catch up, with QF93 currently shown as arriving in Los Angeles on Friday at 16:20 PDT, 21 hrs 50 min late. This may then be able to be absorbed via one of the B789 24+ hour LAX lay overs.

Meanwhile Tuesday's QF10 LHR-PER sector (B789 VH-ZNG) arrived on time in Perth this morning, however the onward sector to Melbourne was delayed 3 hrs 18 minutes until 16:28 AWST. The flight is being operated by VH-ZNA, with VH-ZNG turning around in Perth to operate the delayed flights above.

Arrival in Melbourne is now expected to be 22:45 AEDT, a recovery of 55 minutes to be 2hrs 5 min late. Once again this flows on to QF93 MEL-LAX, with the same delay now showing that flight departing Melbourne at 00:15 AEDT Thursday, and the Los Angeles arrival at 20:35 PDT Wednesday. Whether the flight on from Melbourne is operated by VH-ZNA remains to be seen.

Methinks Qantas Schedulers must be tearing their hair out.

Tuesday's QF9 PER-LHR pushed back in Perth at 19:40 AWST Wednesday, 24 hrs 50 minutes late, as QF7009, and operated by B789 VH-ZNC.

Wednesday's QF9 MEL-PER sector was operated by B789 VH-ZNC on time, however the PER-LHR sector has been delayed until 10:45 AWST Friday, 15 hrs 55 min late, and should now be operated by B789 VH-ZNG

Unfortunately for the pax UK airline compensation doesn't apply on flights inbound to the uk.

With little padding in the intl schedule these long delays will continue for the foreseeable. Air NZ has just chartered an A330 to build some spare capacity into the scheduling

This flight was operated by VH-ZNA, and arrived in LAX 1 hr 53 min late at 20:23 PDT Wednesday

While Qantas B789 VH-ZNI is returning from Singapore today, this will only provide short term relief, as both VH-ZNJ & VH-ZNK are due for the same Heavy Maintenance in the next two months.

Thursday : This flight has now been delayed another 7¾ hours until 20:30 AWST tonight, presumably to provide a gap if today's QF9 goes through on time (18:50 AWST depart Perth)

Thursday : Tonight's QF75 SYD-YVR (B789 VH-ZNB) has finally pushed back in Sydney 2 hours 9 minutes late, with both Qantas Flight Status and the flight tracking sites showing two earlier estimated delays of 1 hour 5 minutes and 1 hour 50 minutes. As a west to east flight, some time can be expected to be made up, thus the expected delay to its Vancouver arrival is 1 hour 40 minutes, with new ETA of 18:10 PDT.

Thursday [AWST] : B789 VH-ZNI as QF6016, has been diverted from its return to Sydney to Perth, to take Wednesday's delayed QF9 (PER-LHR) to London as QF7009 this evening, 26 hours 6 minutes late. ETA in London is 06:45 GMT, 25 hours 40 minutes late.
B789 VH-ZNG remains in Perth since arriving just before noon (AWST) on Wednesday with QF10 from London.

Friday : The return timing for VH-ZNI has now been posted showing a 7 hr 50 minute delay for QF10 - departing London at 19:45 GMT Friday, with a Perth arrival of 19:30 AWST on Saturday. The onward sector to Melbourne has been cancelled. Passengers for Melbourne presumably transferring to a red-eye domestic flight.

Friday: With all the disruptions to the B789 QF9/QF10 flights, the Saturday morning domestic B789 MEL-SYD QF438 has been cancelled.

Despite a 24 hr layover in Los Angeles, a short while ago B789 VH-ZNA pushed back at LAX with QF96 for Melbourne, 90 minutes late. New ETA Melbourne is 09:20 AEDT Saturday, 55 minutes late.

QF1 still sitting in Singapore with an ever hanging estimated departure time. Current delay is 3 hours and 15 minutes.

Clearly this is due to us being in QF2 tomorrow. Very interested to know the reason for the delay.

not sure what happened but still not airborne (0450am local time now) and Flightradar24 says estimated departure now 4pm. QF2 most likely delayed in the end. Make sure you get your UK261 package.

Saturday : From these four cancellations of QF9 MEL-PER & QF10 PER-MEL : yesterday's QF10 PER-MEL sector, today & Sunday's QF9 MEL-PER sectors and Sunday's QF10 PER-MEL sector, it appears that the delayed QF10 LHR-PER (B789 VH-ZNI) operating as QF7010 arriving in Perth at 19:45 AWST this evening, 32 hours 5 minutes late and today's QF10 LHR-PER departure (B789 VH-ZNE) which is currently showing an 8 hour 20 minute delay, will turn around in Perth and operate today's and tomorrow's QF9 PER-LHR flights respectively, with the following delays ...

Today's QF9 PER-LHR is currently shown as delayed 1 hr 25 minutes with a revised departure of 21:15 AWST - a 90 minute turn around for VH-ZNI, while tomorrow's QF9 PER-LHR is currently showing a 1 hour 40 minute delay for a 21:30 AWST departure, also with a 90 minute turn around.

In the past where a B789 turn around has occurred in Perth, Qantas has operated the QF9 MEL-PER & QF10 PER-MEL sectors with A332's, so not sure what happens for those passengers booked from/to Melbourne on these flights.

I guess the MEL pax get rebooked onto other domestic flights or offered via SIN

Saturday : QF75 SYD-YVR is currently showing a 45 minute delay for a revised Sydney departure of 21:10 AEDT this evening, with the same delay on arrival in Vancouver.

Yesterday’s QF1 is on the taxiway as QF7001 at Changi airport, clocking up a 18 hours delay. This will undoubtedly delay QF2 overnight given it’s just 11am in London now.

This probably also means that QF7001 will arrive in LHR post curfew.
