Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Saturday's QF10 LHR_PER (B789 VH-ZNF) is currently posted as delayed 70 minutes for a 13:00 GMT/Z departure
Seems ground staff at Heathrow managed to pull this back to a 12:45 departure, with QF10 due into Perth at 13:00 AWST, 35 minutes late. However the onwards leg to Melbourne is still showing the original 70 minute delay ?

Edit : with ZNE operating today's QF93, the only B789 available to operate today's QF9 MEL-PER sector is ZNI. If its ongoing maintenance issues are not fixed in time, the above QF10 PER-MEL leg may have to be cancelled, as there is also no spare B789 in Sydney (assuming ZNC operates today's QF7) to be positioned to Melbourne.

FR24 suggests the 1755 hours SYD-DFW QF7 has been cancelled on Sunday 26 February 2023.

QF9 (1650 hours MEL-PER-LHR) is showing as 'on time' at this stage ex Melbourne.

Continuing with Sunday 26, QF12 that had diverted to BNE took off from there at 1409, much later than expected, with A388 VH-OQB, arriving in SYD at its gate at 1632 hours, 477 minutes late.

It's now on QF1 (1705 hours late afternoon SYD-SIN-LHR) that took off exactly two hours later. Expected SIN at gate arrival becomes 2337 hours late tonight local time, 87 late with the probability of an even later arrival in London tomorrow morning BST, given 'the 1's' penchant for extending its stay in the Lion City.

Todays QF1528 MEL-CBR (B712) VH-NXN arrived at 20 20, 50 tardy. Last minute aircraft change due to engine issue with original aircraft, as well as offloading a passenger

QF12 diverting to BNE
It actually flew direct from LAX to BNE intentionally.
flight crew would exceed their permitted duty hours
Usually a LAX-SYD flight departs at 2230 PST But add in 90 min preflight prep. So the pilots on duty from 2100 PST

2100 PST = 3pm AEST
It arrived on ground at 1055 AEST+1

Basically at wheel chocks the pilots would have been on duty just under 20hrs

prior to takeoff they planned to go to BNE

QF76 is currently delayed 5 hours and must be close to timing out.

If Quickstatus is correct with '90 minutes of pre flight preparation time', then given the flight time (airborne) of at least 14 hours going by recent tours of duty plus taxiing time in Vancover of say 25 minutes and Sydney when arriving of an arbitrary five minutes, then given it's almost 0230 hours on Sunday 26 in YVR and the flight was meant to depart at 2025 local time on Saturday mid evening, we already have a calculation of 22 hours and five minutes.

Surely the flight will have to be cancelled and (at a guess) depart say 24 hours (or more) later if B789 VH-ZND up there is operable?

Very well searched. Thank you!

For once I was correct in estimating at least 24 hours delay, although it's actually 25 hours and 5 minutes that's proposed.

I hope there were sufficient hotel rooms available in Vancouver. If there were say 230 passengers, QFi might need at least 120 given some passengers may be locals and possibly given taxi vouchers, and perhaps there might be 120 passengers at a guess who'd be couples or members of families and hence can be booked together in a room.

Advice from those affected as to arrangements (where they've been placed, how well any buses and immigration/luggage worked) would be good.

Despite the QF76 aircraft being unavailable for a day, so far it doesn't appear any QFi B789 flights ex Australia have been cancelled on Monday 27 February.

No cancellations, however QF93 MEL-LAX has been delayed 3 hours until at least 14:00 AEDT.

QF63 SYD-JNB (B789 VH-ZNC) was delayed 63 minutes for a 10:38 AEDT Sydney departure this morning. Current ETA into Jo'burg is now 15:02 SAST, just 27 minutes late.

Meanwhile the overnight QF10 LHR-PER (B789 VH-ZNG) is running just under 30 minutes late, with the onwards sector to Melbourne showing a 35 minute delay, for a 21:00 AEDT arrival.

The other overnight QF64 JNB-SYD (B789 VH-ZNH) was 71 minutes late pushing back in Jo'burg, but is expected to make up time for a 13:52 AEDT Sydney arrival, just 27 minutes late.

The flight tracking apps are showing VH-ZNA as being due to operate this flight, having arrived close enough to time with QF22 from Dallas at 05:51 AEDT this morning.

ZNA as QF93 MEL-LAX departed at 1423 hours on Monday 27, 203 minutes tardy, but by 1434 had yet to become airborne.

A388 VH-OQB as QF1 was in the sky from SIN at 0152 hours this morning: LHR at gate arrival should be 08752 hours, 97 minutes behind schedule.

QF23 from SYD up to BKK is often quite a good runner but today with A333 VH-QPB, it was airborne at 1157 so gate arrival should be on the dot at 1700 hours local time, 50 late, ensuring that this evening's redeye QF24 will be similarly tardy, at least in its pushing back.

VH-QPF is on teh recently reintroduced SYD-HKG 'old stager' QF127. This timetabled 1015 hours flight took off at 1149 so expected gate arrival is 1734 in the late afternoon, a minute shy of an hour late. QF128 (the 1820 hours redeye back down to SYD) is optimistically expected to push back at 1850. Perhaps possible, but unlikely if previous observations are tyypical. Quite often these computer-generated estimates of when a delayed flight inbound will commence its retuin trip are overoptimistic. Some human intervention might improve the realism in these forecasts.

On four of its last seven nights, QF139 (the evening 1850 hours SYD across to CHC) has been more than half an hour late arriving at gate, meaning an 0200 check in for many hotel guests. Some businessmen may like this flight as it avoids 'wasteful' daytime travel but the disadvantage can be insufficient sleeping time before one fronts to an 0930 or even 1000 client meeting the next morning.

Also on Monday 27, QF2 from LHR (A388 VH-OQJ) arrived at its SIN gate at about 1826 hours, 56 minutes late. It won't be anything close to time tomorrow morning in Sydney.
