Qantas Delays/Cancellations

On Monday 29 May 2023, QF23 (A333 VH-QPA) that had been overnight delayed in HNL arrived BKK at 1716 hours (36 minutes tardy). It then formed the overnight QF24, arriving SYD this morning at 0744 hours, 79 minutes late as it spent excess time on the ground in Bangkok.

Earlier, A388 VH-OQD arrived SYD as QF2 at 0552 hours, 42 minutes late as yesterday it had pulled into SIN 37 minutes late from LHR.

B789 VH-ZND yesterday on 'the 63' from SYD to South Africa's JNB arrived at 1711 hours, 61 minutes behind schedule. The returning overnight 1740 hours to SYD did not take off from JNB until 1927 hours, so today its gate arrival is estimated at about 1510 hours, 105 minutes late. It looks to be forming QF7, the 1540 hours mid afternoon SYD-DFW long flight that is forecast extremely optimistically to push back at 1610 hours: more like 1650 if previous observations count for anything.

Continuing its poor punctuality, QF139 from SYD last night (B738 VH-VZV) arrived CHC at 0043 hours this morning, 44 minutes late.

The expected delay to Tuesday 30 May's QF11, the 1020 hours SYD-LAX, has blown out further, with a 2015 hours departure mid evening the newly revised proposal, 595 minutes late.

QF75 on Monday 29 (B789 VH-ZNE, the 2025 hours mid evening SYD-YVR) was airborne at 2106 so same day arrival should be 1756 hours, 31 late.

VH-ZNA has been in PUS, South Korea since 19 May 2023 for what one assumes is scheduled maintenance. On a couple of pre-COVID visits, one found it a surprisingly interesting city to visit, with excellent and frequent high speed trains to/from Seoul, and an airport train (of course) to ICN also in the mix.

Continuing with Tuesday 30 May 2023, QF1 (1510 hours afternoon SYD-SIN-LHR, A388 VH-OQD) was not in the sky until 1625. Expected at gate arrival should be approximately 2216, 46 late making arrival at LHR tomorrow morning local time less than 15 minutes late unlikely.

IIRC this was showing as a B789 today, but it became A388 VH-OQK. It took offf at 1127 so arrival (same day) becomes a likely 0724 hours, 19 late. A much less severe delay!

In more on 30 May, 'the 104' from HNL to SYD has no fear of losing its unpunctual reputation, as tonight A333 VH-QPF is coming in to gate in SYD (ex HNL) at about 1941 hours, 61 minutes behind the schedule. It is presumably forming QF25 (2020 hours SYD-HND, as this is displaying as departing 45 late.

Earlier today, QPG on QF81 (1150 hours close to lunchtime SYD up to SIN) took off at 1340 hours with a 1929 hours suggested arrival, 74 late.

QF127 just now diverting to CRK in Phillipines. Unsure of reason. Hopefully QF lounge in HKG open later than usual tonight for my CX flight.

QF web says diverted to MNL, QF128 now scheduled 2105. Doubt that…

The aircraft is class leader A333 VH-QPA that had taken off from SYD if anything a few minutes early at 1031 hours this morning, as pushback schedule shows 1015 hours.

It looks like QFi's 'flight status page' doesn't have CRK airport loaded into the possibilities as it incorrectly states the aircraft diverted to MNL, as you allude. It arrived CRK at 1728 hours (1928 AEST).

QFi laughingly says it was meant to depart CRK at 1815 for arrival in HKG at 1945.

As at 2128 AEST (i.e. now), the aircraft is taxiing in CRK.

UPDATE: It was airborne at 1929 local Filipino time, which is same as HKG's.

FR24 suggests arrival should be at 2122 hours in HKG at gate, 217 minutes later than the A380 scheduled arrival of 1750 (though the A333 schedule shows arrival is timetabled for 1755, so on that basis it will be 212 late).

This means the 1930 hours QF128 HKG down to SYD might be off blocks at approximately 2305 at a guess.

The weather in HKG looks benign so I wonder why the aircraft needed to do a famous Quickstatus 'splash and dash', though not much 'dashing'.

A333 VH-QPA on the SYD-CRK-HKG QF127 arrived the latter at 2112 hours on Tuesday 30 May.

However QF128, the 1930 hours, was not airborne until 0023 hours on Wednesday 31, so SYD arrival should be about 1102 hours, 247 minutes late.

Earlier this morning, QF24 from BKK to SYD arrived with colleague QPI at 0739 hours, 74 minutes tardy even though yesterday on the outbound QF23 it only arrived BKK 27 late at 1707 hours.

A333 VH-QPF on QF25 (SYD-HND) pulled into its gate this morning at 0613 hours, 48 late.

QF1 yesterday was delayed departing SYD as noted above; it arrived SIN at 2207, 37 behind. It then took off at 0111 hours this morning, so expected at gate LHR arrival becomes 0741 hours, 66 minutes behind schedule.

B789 VH-ZNK on QF10 from LHR to PER yesterday was airborne at 1230 hours so today, arrival at gate looks to be half an hour behind at 1210.

Continuing with Wednesday 31 May, QF19 (A333 VH-QP , the 1215 hours SYD up to MNL) pushed back at 1312 and took off at 1326 so amended gate arrival should be approximately 1920 hours, half an hour behind schedule.

QF1 (1510 hours SYD-SIN-LHR) is suggested as departing an hour late. QF39, the identically timed departure but from MEL up to CGK is an A332, estimated to depart at 1730 in the late afternoon, 140 late.

Earlier, B738 VH-XZI on QF143, the 0850 hours SYD-AKL airborne at 0953 hours arrived at 1435 hours, 40 down.

Also on Wednesday 31 May 2023, B789 VH-ZNK on QF10 had been OK into PER (ex LHR), arriving at 1202 hours, 22 minutes late, but the onwards sector to MEL was delayed, arriving last night at 1951, 71 late. In turn this led to QF93 (2025 hours MEL-LAX) becoming airborne at 2221 hours with same day arrival expected at gate at 1843 hours, 58 minutes behind schedule.

ZNH is on opposite number QF94. This took off from LAX on 31 May at 0057 so 1 June (today) arrival in MEL should be 0858 hours, 133 minutes behind the timetable.

Class leader A333 VH_QPA on the MNL-SYD redeye QF20 arrived this morning at 0714 hours, 34 minutes late.

QF1 (A388 VH-OQB) was airborne from SIN at 0038, about 45 late with LHR at gate arrival suggested as 0709 hours, 34 minutes tardy.

With the MEL-CGK newbie QF39 not arriving this morning until 0042 hours, 327 minute late, A332 VH-EBO on the 2100 hours mid evening 31 May QF40 did not take off until 0225 this morning (1 June). MEL arrival looks like about 1111 hours (one to remember!), 271 minutes behind schedule.

QF103 (the SYD-HNL) arrived on Wednesday morning at 1046 hours, 21 late with A333 VH-QPOI but the return working, QF104 (the 1200 'high noon') is not expected to depart until 1305 hours. There are continual delays on the ground at Honolulu for the 103/104 turnaround.

While Wednesdays QF27 (B789 VH-ZNL) arrived in Santiago on time, the return QF28 was 26 minutes late pushing back, and has been further pushed back in flight, now being due in Sydney at 18:43 AEST, 43 minutes late.

Continuing with the first day of winter, QF1, the 1510 hours SYD-SIN-LHR has kicked it off by being delayed in initial pushback to an estimated 1800 hours.

Earlier, A332 VH-EBO on the 1200 'high noon' MEL-SIN 1st division QF35 took off at 1249 so a 34 minute late at gate arrival, at 1834 hours, is the expectation. The 2nd division (QF37) doesn't operate on Thursdays (yet).

The delay to QF1 has become greater than expected. On Thursday 1 June, it took off from SYD at 1938 hours with A388 VH-OQG, so SIN at gate time should be around the 0132 hours (Friday 2) mark, 242 minutes late. The plane is displaying as departing at 0250 hours: sounds very optimistic. The aircraft had arrived in SYD yesterday as QF2, so perhaps needed maintenance.

The evening 1855 hours SYD-CHC (QF139, tonight being B738 VH-VZW) is again tadry, having taken off not long ago at 2013 hours. At gate arrival looks like 0055 hours on Friday 2, 56 late.

The tardy QF1 (A388 VH-OQG) arrived SIN at 0126 hours, 236 minutes late, on Friday 2 June 2023. It was then airborne at 0345 local time (not the normal time to enjoy a meal an hour later, unless you're a shift worker with an 0630 hours start) so expected at gate arrival in LHR is 1019 hours at this stage, 224 late. Sometimes with a brief hold on approach this can blow out by a few minutes.

On Thursday 1, the 2055 hours LHR-SIN (QF2) did not depart until 63 minutes later, so arrival at Lion City tonight should be at about 1830, an hour late. However the onwards journey to SYD is not expected to commence until 2100 hours, 90 minutes late, so SYD arrival on Saturday morning should be at least an hour late at approximately 0610.

Looks like last night's QF25 to Tokyo Haneda is delayed until this afternoon, 1pm, operating as QF25D
