Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Continuing with Monday 7 August, QF63 (B789 VH-ZNF) departed 65 minutes late at 1045 hours: it is expected to be at its JNB gate (ex SYD) at 1652, 42 late.

In more on 7 August, QF81 (1210 hours lunchtime SYD-SIN) hasn't covered itself with glory lately, today being no exception.

I don't know if A332 VH-EBJ that had been in Sydney overnight was substituted for an A333 at the last moment, but it took off at 1511 hours mid afternoon for projected Lion City arrival of 2103 hours, 153 minutes late, tonight mid evening local time.

It was substituted in for an A380. Looks like OQK is out of service having been in Sydney since the morning of 4th Aug.

QF73 was boarded and then cancelled indicating mechanical issue. ZNC the 787 aircraft.

EDIT: now showing as departing at 1pm Tuesday

It is uncommon for QF23 (the daily 0950 hours SYD-BKK) to not be an A333, but on Monday 7 August it became A332 VH-EBS. It wasn't airborne until 1242 hours, suggesting the A332 was a last minute substitution. BKK arrival was at 1855 hours, 135 late. The return redeye QF24 was obviously adevrsely affected, taking off on its scheduled 1810 hours flight at 2049. Tuesday 8 gate arrival in Sydney should be at approximately 0839 hours, 134 behind, so little change from the forward journey.

QF24 also looks to be an A332 on Sunday 13 August.

Colleague EBJ on the badly delayed QF81 (SYD-SIN, meant to be an A388 as Flyerqf states above) arrived at its gate at 2056 hours, 146 minutes tardy, last night. QF82 (the redeye) then took off at 2303 so should arrive on Tuesday in Sydney at 0829, 139 behind schedule.

The delay has worsened: QF73 is expected to push back mid afternoon on Tuesday 8 at 1430 hours in Sydney, 995 minutes late.

The Monday 7 2225 hours late night SFO-SYD (QF74) is as a result predicted to push back at 1130 hours on Tuesday 8 August.

While we don't normally record air freighter movements, QF7356, the 0200 hours MEL-LST that wasn't airborne until 0614 with B733 VH-XML travelled to above LST but has turned back (fog?) and had been in a significant holding pattern, with arrival back in MEL expected at 0835.

Express Post items will be delayed - unusual, as using it including recently I've found Australia Post is very reliable for intercapital overnight delivery as the advertising states.

Despite the advantage of westerly winds that may well allow a gain on the timetable, QF11 is managing to take off from SYD rather late on quite a few days.

Tuesday 8 August wasn't an exception with A388 VH-OQB on this 1020 hours airborne at 1203. Suggested same day gate arrival in LAX (ex SYD) becomes 0746 hours, 41 behind.

A332 VH-EBS on the 1015 hours SYD-HKG QF127 should arrive half an hour late at 1825 in the early evening.

A333 VH-QPH is on QF79, the mid morning 1030 hours MEL-HND in Japan not in the sky until 1147 for projected arrival at about 2040 tonight, 40 behind.

QF27 (1235 hours SYD-SCL at lunchtime) was up up and away with B789 VH-ZNC at 1345 hours, so arrival in Chile should be at 1213 hours, 68 late. Thankfully this flight has a generous turnaround time in South America so it may be punctual returning as QF28 into SYD tomorrow.

QF7, the mid afternoon 1540 hours long flight from SYD to DFW has been delayed by 260 minutes in projected pushback to 2000 hours this evening. Perhaps it's being formed by B789 VH-ZNF that arrived in SYD (ex JNB) as QF64 at 1355 hours, half an hour behind, but which needs a little tweaking?

Does anyone know why there has been a QF331/332 SYD-SIN-LHR-SIN-SYD? Operated alongside QF1/2. Both A380s. Both due back Thursday 9/8.

QF332 boarded from gate 40 at LHR, QF2 from the next door gate 42. 332 was still sitting at the gate (with no bridges attached) when 2 was getting ready to board. A lot of people in the gate area thought they were late as the aircraft at gate 42 couldn't be seen from the waiting area.

QF52 tonight (SIN-BNE) has been delayed overnight.

I was on QF24 BKK-SYD tonight but it's been cancelled due to a sick pilot which they're trying to replace. We've been put into hotels. New ETD 'tomorrow morning.'

EDIT: Got an email saying the issue is "a complex mechanical fault." Nothing mentioned about the pilot (which was what was announced on the PA).

This is A333 VH-QPG that on Tuesday 8 August 2023 arrived BKK at 1731 hours, 51 late as QF23 from SYD.

Also on Tuesday 8, A332 VH-EBI on QF19 from SYD up to MNL arrived only six late at 1857 hours, but the return redeye QF20 (the 2035 hours) was not in the sky until 2146 hours, so on Wednesday 9 it arrived at its SYD gate at 0731 hours, 51 minutes tardy.

Class leader A333 VH-QPA arrived in SIN on Tuesday 8 at 1830 hours, 15 minutes late on QF81 from SYD. It then formed the scheduled 2105 hours SIN-BNE redeye that must have had something go wrong, as it did not take off until local time's 0522 this morning. BNE gate arrival today should be at around 1429 hours, 469 minutes late.

This badly delayed A333 is forming QF51 (the 1030 hours midmorning) from BNE to SIN, altered to depart at 1555 hours, 325 minutes behind the timetable. At this stage there aren't any southbounds ex SIN shown as delayed: that may become evident later today.

The SIN-PER QF72 arrived at its gate this morning at 0112 hours, 82 minutes late with A332 VH-EBL.

Due to the delayed inbound QF74, there are delays on QF27 and QF7 today as well.

The inbound QF64 will go on to QF27 (normally QF7) and QF28 will go onto QF7 instead.
