Qantas Delays/Cancellations

QF127 was also delayed longer than forecast,. with A333 VH-QPH having arrived at 1020 hours, 85 late as QF60 from HND, but 'the 127' becoming airborne at 1230 hours. Suggested at gate arrival on Tuesday 27 August is 1925 hours, 90 minutes behind.

Assuming QF127 makes her own (i.e. forms QF128), this 1930 hours scheduled departure is more likely at 2100 or later.
 
Seems QF7 is delayed again today. Pax over at FT received notification that aircraft has refrigeration problems.

This is B789 VH-ZNL that on Tuesday 26 arrived in SYD at 0609 hours, only four minutes late as QF74 from SFO.

FR24 is showing an amended two hour late proposed pushback at 1750 hours for 'the 7' to DFW.
 
Yesterday's QF7 arrived DFW at 2138 hours, 333 minutes late with B789 VH-ZNJ.

On Tuesday 27 August, the returning flight, QF8 was airborne from DFW at 0006 hours with SYD arrival on Wednesday 28 suggested as 0718 hours, 63 minutes tardy.

The 1155 hours Tuesday QF93 has VH-ZNK and is badly delayed with departure having just occurred slightly after 1610 hours. This is despite the aircraft having been in Melbourne since 0512 hours when it arrived 13 minutes early as QF22 from distant DFW.

It's not clear if there's any indirect correlation with the stranded ZNC sitting in Perth, but the USA routes seem suddenly to be experiencing much late running. However, unexpectedly having one of the long distance fleet unavailable may mean less available downtime for the others: not ideal.

The delayed QF7 took off from SYD at 1928 hours on Tuesday 27, so arrival for B789 VH-ZNL in DFW is estimated as 1930 hours same day, 205 minutes late.

Somewhere over the Pacific, the late QF7 should pass the also delayed QF8, albeit many nautical miles apart and probably at different altitudes.

On Wednesday 28 August, QF93 from MEL to LAX is again cancelled, presumably due to one fewer Boeing 878-900 being available given the class member stuck in PER (see above).

Continuing with Wednesday 28, A332 VH-EBO took off from SYD at 1104 hours on the 0905 hours SYD-BLR QF67, so expected gate arrival is 71 minutes late at 1751 hours. The plane had yesterday 'ferried' (empty) down from MNL, arriving SYD at 1654: was it having maintenance done there?

B789 VH-ZNL on yesterday's QF7 from SYD up and across to DFW arrived at 1937 hours, 212 minutes behind schedule. It is returning to Australia on the 2040 hours QF22 that terminates in MEL: this flight is unsurprisingly delayed.

A333 VH-QPB on 'the 59' from SYD to Japanese HND is the 1110 hours airborne at 1303 a few minutes ago this afternoon. Expected gate arrival is 2142 hours, 92 late.

UPDATE: QF22 was airborne from DFW at 2210 hours on Tuesday 27: Thursday 29 MEL arrival should be 32 late at 0557 hours.

B738 VH-VXI is an example today of delays building. Winds gusting to 59kmh at MEL might not help.

Its first duty was QF605, the 0600 hours BNE down to MEL where it arrived 27 minutes late at 0852 hours.

Subsequently, the timetable has allowed turnarounds of respectively 55,45 and 70 minutes: generous. It's currently on QF455, the 1500 hours mid afternoon SYD down to MEL that was in the sky at 1609 hours. Expected gate arrival is 1730 hours, 55 behind. After that it is meant to operate QF628, the 1725 hours MEL-BNE that might manage to be off blocks at say 1810 if all goes swimmingly.
 
1730 MEL-SYD today got cancelled circa 830pm last night.

Auto re-accomodate worked but allocated seating options now significantly poorer…..

Flow forward active and got the 1630 in the end. Screens showing “maintenance requirements”. I noted a number of other cancellations in SYD showing “operational requirements” so perhaps there was an aircraft issue rather than an out of place crew/aircraft from the day before.

FLow forward again on 27/8 and snagged a 2h15m earlier departure - walked in the door at home around the time I’d have been departing SYD - win. The landing in Melbourne would be described as “sporting” - was half expecting a go-around but despite the multiple adjustments and chop on the way in the actual touchdown was smooth!

Tuesday 28 August's QF8 (B789 VH-ZNA), the 2215 hours DFW to SYD was in the sky at 0045 hours today, Wednesday 29. Arrival on Thursday 30 should be at 0803 hours, 108 minutes behind schedule.

Yesterday, QF15 (2200 hours BNE-LAX top be operated by A332 VH-EBS) ended up being cancelled according to FR24 but this may be a mistake as EBS is displaying as operating the return journey (QF16) ex LAX at a scheduled 2115 on Wednesday, with actual takeoff at 2206 hours.

QF21 (the 1300 hours lunchtime MEL-LAX) is to be cancelled on Thursday 30. As this is a B789, it's probably not operating due to the unexpected travails of VH-ZNC that remains on the ground in Perth.

It would be great if someone with technical knowledge could update us on the latter, and especially, why it hasn't flown to Sydney for repairs in a suitable hangar.
 
QF157 (B738 VH-VZJ), the nicely timed dinner flight from MEL up to AKL with scheduled departure of 1830 hours on Thursday 29 August took off at 2027. Expected gate arrival is 0142 hours on Friday 30, 97 minutes tardy. Being an executive having to front to a Friday morning 0930 hours meeting after checking in at a city hotel at 0230 would not be enjoyable.

QF55 ended up operating in place of the usual QF15 with a slightly different departure time, which is how EBS got to LAX to operate the return QF16. :)
 
One can sometimes glean that either an aircraft has becomne defective, or has itself substituted for a difgferent flight.

On Thursday 29 August 2024, E190 VH-XVM operated QF1951 from DRW down to ADL, arriving three minutes late at 1653 hours in the late afternoon.

However it was then placed on QF1976, the 1620 hours from ADL across to CBR. It isn't normal for a 1650 hours timetabled arrival to form a 1620 hours scheduled pushback. The aircraft took off at 1740, arriving in the national capital at 1925, 55 behind.

Returning to ADL was its next task as QF1979 with this 1910 hours flight airborne at 2021 hours, about 55-60 minutes late. Expected 'gate' arrival becomes 2157 hours, 82 minutes behind. The winds may not be favourable.
 
Today (Friday 30 August) the 1300 hours QF21 from MEL to DFW was cancelled, as will be the return QF22. Another result of absent VH-ZNC (B789).
 
On Saturday 31 August 2024, QF6 from FCO down to PER is arriving at 1050 hours, 70 minutes late with B789 VH-ZNF.

QF291 (A333 OH-LTS, the 1025 hours midmorning SYD-SIN airborne at 1121) should arrive at gate at 1723, 33 late.

Should be 7 once OQG enters service.. with OQA, OQB, OQD, and OQH-OQJ currently operational.

OQC, OQK and OQL are all currently in Abu Dhabi
Good timing too. The extra A380 will be deployed to QF93/94 from tomorrow to cover the 787 that is out of service at PER (ZNC).
 
OQJ is today’s spare (in SYD) now that OQG is back in service. OQJ (or the inbound OQA from LAX or OQH from SIN) will position down to MEL to operate tomorrow’s QF93.
