Qantas Delays/Cancellations

I would imagine that the 330 fleet would have a lot of extra flexibility compared to the 747 and 380 fleet. Don't forget that QF still have a number of 332's coming back from JQ, so the extra flights shouldn't be a surprise as such.
By early next year, they'll have 28 A330s, 12 A380s and 10 747s.

Flyerqf, the Airfleets website suggests that QF has 27 A332s or A333s including VH-EBI. I am not saying you are wrong - it may be that the Airfleets information has not been updated

It's got EBK (with delivery date of 9/9) which will reportedly make first QF flight today (after coming back from SIN paint shop 9/9).

It's missing EBF which is in QF colours but in the BNE maintenance facility getting refurbed and will be complete in the next fortnight

QF81 on Monday 14 September departed SYD 76 minutes late at 1136, arriving SIN at 1810 local time, 85 minutes late. This should not affect the return flight to SYD as the aircraft has a slightly more than two hour turnaround, and from observation a typical time to send an A330 back from whence it came is 70 minutes.

QF81 was of course once a SYD - ADL - SIN flight, much missed by those who enjoy an extra landing and takeoff as part of the flying experience. There are not many 'mainline' flights of this type left in Oz if I recall: even AirIndia abandoned its contribution in recent times.

QF35 cancelled today (reportedly aircraft u/s). Last night's QF36 cancelled also (causing the QF35 cancel).

Premium pax accomodated on mix of EK, SQ and CX via HKG (for those where onward destinations suitable).

Although the B744 operating QF18 on Monday 14 September arrived LAX at 2142 ex JFK, just two minutes late, its departure for SYD was delayed from 2355 hours to a supposed 0100 hours, the latter on Tuesday. Forecast arrival in SYD is 40 minutes late at 0820 on Wednesday 16 September, but it is now 0135 hours in LAX and according to the QF website and www.flightaware.com the flight has still not begun to taxi, so it may be even later into SYD.

On a few previous occasions, a QF indicated departure time that has passed yet not been further revised to a future time can be a sign that there is 'trouble', so it can be ominous. Naturally this is not guaranteed: sure as we know it, the flight may be off blocks in a minute or two.

At present the QF18 SYD arrival is forming the 1125 hours QF25 to SCL on Wednesday morning so touch wood that the latter will not be delayed.

UPDATE: QF18 departed at 0147, almost two hours late with a forecast YD arrival of 0910 hours tomorrow, so it should form QF25 on time, all being well.

Tuesday 15 September's QF93 did not depart at 0950 as scheduled and is now predicted to leave at 0900 on Wednesday 16 September. The QANTAS Source | as yet has not mentioned this.

QF94 from LAX to MEL on Tuesday night along with QF12 from LAX to SYD are both shown as operating normally, yet surely QF would be down an aircraft unless a spare A388 has flown empty (been 'ferried') to LAX?

QF12 is delayed overnight until 10.30am Wed.

Also, QF25 is to Tokyo, and SCL is QF27.

My regular cab driver this morning told me that QF93 was eventually "cancelled" yesterday after rolling 2hr delays. He took a very unhappy passenger home late in the afternoon.

I'm not sure why you keep talking about ferries/spare 380s. We both know that there's very rarely a spare, and even ferries are rare. And there's no way you'd run a ferry across the Pacific. If you actually happened to have an aircraft sitting in Sydney, you'd just fly it to Melbourne to pick up the passengers.

I'd much rather be on the ground wishing I was in the air, than in the air wishing I were on the ground.

I agree entirely, but the point of my post was that Qantas's woes are starting to make an impression on others than those directly involved.

I;m sure that continued negative impressions from cabbies - as the A388s are worked - won't keep QF Execs from worrying about potential revenue losses.

QF1 for tomorrow 17th September is delayed by 4 hours until 8pm. The lady from Qantas First was ringing to organise the spa and said she would be getting us on a later flight from Brisbane and change the chauffeur cars. Still get 3 hours in Flounge but don't have to have a mad panic with waking up. Very well handled by Qantas. Messes up our plans for Friday when we land though.

Moindardt, be aware that the delayed QF93 that arrives in LAX at 0725 is forming a Wednesday 1030 hours LAX time QF12 back to SYD that QF shows as due in at 1820. If it does not gain time enroute across the Pacific, you may not be away right at 2000 hours as the quickest A388 turnaround that I have observed in recent months by QF has been an hour and 43 minutes, but many seem to take between two and two and a half hours.

The good news is that the QF computer has been conservative (not always the case) in its revised times for both the delayed QF12 and the delayed QF1, so who knows - you may get to LHR on Friday a bit earlier than the revised website time of 1050. Staff do their best to minimise time that the aircraft sits on the ground, but unfortunately it cannot be turned around in 30 or 50 minutes, so enjoy the extra Scotch or G & T in the Flounge, whatever your now abandoned plans for Friday morning in London.

That is not logical, Moindardt, because if it manages to leave at say 2015 tomorrow night you could expect to be dining from say 2100 hours. Not many have breakfast at that time. Airlines are pretty good at matching catering to the time of day or evening, especially after departure, though on a few 0001 or 0100 hours super early morning departures from MEL I have mostly not felt like a full 'dinner' an hour later when the catering occurs.

Thank you to all viewers for this thread reaching more than 500 'likes', even if the 'like' is expressed through gritted teeth in some cases because this is all about highlighting QF delays and cancellations - and that may be bad news to passengers with tight itineraries.

As with all these threads, they may not thrill airline staff who have a sense of loyalty to their company, because they like to accentuate the positive (or in some cases the 'spin.') However QF delays and cancellations can be frequent (particularly QF delays for long haul flights to or from LAX, LHR and DXB) with the high level of utilisation of AFF members of QF making unscheduled delays, or sudden cancellations, a topic of interest.

A special thanks to mannej from Western Australia who rightly pointed out that I should expand such threads beyond QF. We now have in excess of 15 airline delay and cancellation threads. It is clear that almost no AFFer travels on TT and not many on JQ, but many of us patronise a range of international airlines serving Australia.

It is impossible for me to monitor every delay of say more than two hours so input is always welcome. Sometimes booked passengers are even kind enough to contribute how they were treated by airline X in respect of delay Y or cancellation Z. This can be extremely useful information for prospective travellers to know because while we might not all constantly think that our day of travel will be adversely affected by delays or a cancellation, that possibility is often present. QF for instance could not have foreseen the overnight delay to QF93 that in turn is affecting QF12 and (tomorrow afternoon) QF1, yet (assuming planes are 75 per cent full) at least 1,000 passengers will have been adversely affected (more counting new ones joining at DXB) from one delay event. Staff are also affected by changed hours of work and leisure but they may well be used to that.

In some good news for today's traveller and AFFer Moindardt, the delayed QF12 from LAX to SYD departed at 1044 on Wednesday 16 September and is shown as due to now arrive SYD at 1809, so a 2000 hours departure on QF1 is (just) possible.

Wednesday's QF12 ex LAX is delayed from 2200 hours to an estimated 0150 on Thursday local LAX time in its departure meaning a SYD arrival at a projected 0900 on Friday morning, two hours and 50 minutes late.

Thanks mate :)

Oldest wants to study Medicine at Oxford and they have their open day on Friday. Still should get a few hours there.
