Todays (19/7/23) QF1 is now showing as delayed overnight with a new Thursday 20th of July at 06:45 in the morning departure loaded in.

This should mean that the Thursday 20 July 2023 QF2 scheduled at 2055 hours ex LHR departs late, as QFi estimates that the overnight delayed QF1 will arrive at London Heathrow at 2145 hours, 910 minutes late. The QF 'flight status' page on its website has yet to disclose any change, but this is not unusual. Often 'the computer' only updates after the previous flight (i.e. QF1) had taken off from its previous airport (i.e. Singapore).

The overnight delayed QF1 departed SYD at 0655 hours on Thursday 20 July with A388 VH-OQK. The stop in SIN is estimated to be from 1257 to a slightly optimistic 1435 hours for LHR gate arrival at 2105 local time (0605 hours Friday 21 AEST).

Hard to know if QF2 (the 2055 hours Thursday LHR-SIN-SYD) will depart just after 2300 hours: as QuickStatus and others have explained, the LHR restrictions kick in. Qantas' flight status page maintains 'the 2' will depart on time tonight (Uk time) at 2055 hours.

A332 VH-EBN on Wednesday's QF72 from SIN back down to PER arrived at 0111 hours on Thursday 20, 81 late. The previous QF72 had arrived at 0158.

A333 VH-QPI arrived on Thursday ex BKK in SYD at 0702, 37 late as QF24.

VH-EBM (A332) pulled up stumps in MEL (ex CGK) this morning at 0715, 35 late as QF40 from CGK.

QF64 from JNB to SYD has B789 VH-ZNC. It took off on 19 July at 1947 hours (compared to departure time scheduled of 1740) as the inbound QF63 was 64 late.. This afternoon, it should arrive at its SYD gate at about 1446 hours, also 81 late. It should form QF7 (1540 hours SYD-DFW) that FR24 rather optimistically suggests will push back at 1610 hours.

ZNI on last night's QF9 from PER did not get airborne until 2013 hours so Thursday 20 LHR gate arrival should be about 0544 hours, 39 behind.

On Thursday 20 July 2023, the overnight delayed QF1 (A388 VH-OQK) was in SIN from 1304 hours 934 minutes late) until takeoff at 1503. Thursday arrival at its LHR gate is estimated as 2113 hours, 878 late.

QFi claims that 'the 2' will depart LHR tonight (local British time) at 2240, 105 minutes late. Perhaps anything's possible, but a turnaround for an A380 of as little as 87 minutes is probably rather stretching matters.

It'll be interesting to see if QF2 is held overnight in London, although passengers might prefer not to have this level of suspense unless they enjoy a 'free' extra hotel night, albeit one with a probable super early rise.

Friday 21 July 2023 should see QF12 from LAX to SYD arrive at about 0858 hours, 73 minutes tardy, as this Wednesday 19 scheduled 2340 hours late night flight was airborne at 0137 on Thursday 20 with A388 VH-OQD.

A333 VH-QPA on Thursday's SYD-BKK QF19 arrived 34 late at 1714 hours.

On Thursday 20 July 2023, the badly delayed QF1 (A388 VH-OQK) arrived LHR at 2108 hours, 853 minutes late. Given it departed SIN at 1441 hours yesterday (911 late), this was a gain of 18 minutes on the timetable.

The return QF2 has just popped up on the FR24 screen as having pushed back at 2306 hours (131 late), so QFi has escaped the ignominy of another overnight delay by a hair's breath.

B789 VH-ZNF arrived in FCO (Rome) yesterday at 0930 hours, 40 late as QF5 ex PER and before that, SYD. The return QF6 took off at 1211, about an hour late; PER arrival on Friday 21 should be at about 0923 hours, 53 minutes late.

It looks like QF2 (VH-OQK) has gone back to the departure gate at London Heathrow, or alternatively may be taking off from the northerly runway instead of the one at the south side.

UPDATE: Fortunately, QF2 was able to become airborne from the north runway, to the west, at 2332 hours British time on Thursday 20 July.

QF2 should arrive in SIN at 1925 hours tonight, 115 minutes late. It means a SYD arrival on Saturday 22 post-0630 hours.

Delays continue on the Sydney - Los Angeles route.

On Friday 21 July 2023, QF11, the 1020 hours midmorning SYD-LAX is estimated to depart at 1500 hours mid afternoon.

This is probably because QF12 (A388 VH-OQD) arrived this morning at 0924 hours, 99 minutes late.

Thursday 20's QF12 (2340 hours very late night LAX-SYD) is estimated to push back at 0145 hours on Friday 21.

On Friday 21 July, SYD has again instituted single runway operations using the east-west runway.

QF161, the 0935 hours morning SYD up to WLG (B738 VH-XZH) as at 1121 hours was about to take off so it may well be more than an hour late arriving in the similarly often windy NZ capital.

QF455, the 0930 hours MEL-SYD took off basically on time at 0946 with VH-VYF but is arriving at 1125 hours, half an hour behind schedule. Feed in a lengthy wait to take off on its next flight and the delay arriving at the next timetabled airport becomes 45 minutes, and so it builds unless there's a buffer with turnaround times timetabled on the ground - the latter is possible during the offpeak, but unlikely from 1500 onwards as demand is heavier.

QF433 (1000 hours SYD-MEL, B738 VH-VYE) had yet to push back as at 1133 hours so even with the padded 95 minute blocks off to blocks on schedule, it'll be at least 90 minutes late into MEL's gate given the extra delays waiting for takeoff clearance.

UPDATE: By 1134 AEST, the north-south runways looked to be reopening.

QF63 SYD-JNB departed Sydney 67 minutes late with arrival in Jo'burg expected to be 65 minutes late - this delay holding for the return QF64, including arrival back in Sydney at 14:30 AEST tomorrow afternoon.

QF3 SYD-AKL-JFK departed Sydney 63 minutes late and transited Auckland 64 minutes late. ETA into JFK is now 17:38 EDT 48 minutes late. Thus the return QF4 should be able to depart on time.

QF27 SYD-SCL departed Sydney 127 minutes late, and is showing an added delay into Santiago at 212 minutes? The return QF28 is however only showing a delay of 145 minutes, with that time holding through to a revised Sydney arrival at 20:25 AEST on Saturday evening.

Also on Friday 21 July 2023, QF11, the 1020 hours SYD-LAX that had been amended to a supposed 1500 hours pushback ended up taking off at 1721 hours. A388 VH-OQD should arrive at its gate at about 1257 hours same day, 352 minutes late.

Delayed by the single runway ops in Sydney this morning to which I referred above (as did 789nerd), A333 VH-QPI on the 0950 hours to BKK (QF23) took off at 1104 hours, arriving at 1726, 46 behind. The return flight will be somewhat late.

A332 on the QF67 (0905 hours SYD-BLR) was airborne at 1007 hours with a 41 minute late gate arrival at 1701 hours the expectation.

This flight caught up time to land in Sydney just 21 minutes late at 13:46 AEST

QF3 SYD-AKL-JFK departed Sydney 63 minutes late and transited Auckland 64 minutes late. ETA into JFK is now 17:38 EDT 48 minutes late. Thus the return QF4 should be able to depart on time.

Didn't happen. QF4 departed JFK 55 minutes late, however Qantas believes it will make up time to only be 21 minutes late into Auckland, and also shows the final hop to Sydney may be on time.

Clearly the 212 minute estimate was over an hour out, with the eventual delay into Santiago being 130 minutes. 8 minutes was lost on ground in Santiago with the 15:58 departure being 138 minutes late. The return into Sydney has however only been trimmed by a minute to be 144 minutes late at 20:24 AEST this evening.

Sunday 23 July 2023 finds QF64 with B789 VH-ZNA taking off at 1048 hours. Arrival at gate is suggested as 1654 hours, 49 minutes tardy.

'The 2' from LHR arrived SIN 12 early at 1718 hours yesterday afternoon but takeoff was not until 2114 hours, resulting in arrival this morning at 0635, 85 minutes behind the timetable. A388 VH-OQI that's had a few problems after returning recently to service had the honour.

A332 VH-EBQ on QF70 from BLR down to SYD should arrive this afternoon at 1624 hours, 234 late as it wasn't in the air last night (local Indian time) until 2356.

QF27 SYD-SCL (B789 VH-ZNB) was 79 minutes late pushing back in Sydney, with revised arrival into Santiago being 68 minutes late at 12:13 CLT on Sunday. The 13:40 CLT departure of the return QF28 may be affected. Time will tell.

Sunday's QF9 MEL-PER-LHR (B789 VH-ZNH) was showing a 25 minute departure delay. This has now been bumped to a 65 minute delay for a 16:10 AEST Melbourne push back. The flight has been visible on FR24 since 15:20 AEST.

Edit : and now another 15 minutes delay has been added for a new departure (maybe) at 16:25 AEST.

Edit : this flight finally pushed back at 16:40 AEST, 95 minutes late. The onwards delays are shown as an optimistic 60 minutes, with the LHR arrival now 06:05 BST Monday.

Also on Sunday 23 July, A333 VH-QPG took off from MEL on the 1200 'high noon' MEL-SIN QF35 at 1319, so expected gate arrival becomes 1842, 42 late.

On Monday 24 July 2023, the weekly QF17 from SYD to LAX "extra" is expected to depart at 1705 hours in the late afternoon instead of 1220 hours.
