Qantas Delays/Cancellations

One problem with QF and ZL flights to rural Australia is that cabin and flight crew are often not based at these rural cities or towns, so if the last (or only!) flight of the day is late, the next morning's one back to the capital city may also be delayed due to fatique requirements.

On Friday 11 October, QF2046, the 1935 hours from MEL to ABX (Q300 VH-TQE) took off at 2115 hours, arriving ABX at 2208 hours, 93 minutes late. This was because the Q300's previous flight, QF2085, had arrived MEL 92 late at 2007 hours.

This morning's ABX-MEL is the timetabled 0650 hours airborne at 1006, with likely arrival at 1058 to be 183 minutes behind schedule. I hope noboy had a late morning international connection.

ZL abandoned this ABX-MEL route due to a dearth of passengers.

With Albury-Wodonga to Melbourne (or MEL) being an easy drive or a relatively fast train journey twice daily on the NSW TrainLink XPTs and thrice daily on V/Line's VLocity railcars, the latter with a $10 single fare for adults and $5 for concession passengers, one wonders how much money QFd is losing on this short route. The trains all stop at Broadmeadows allowing an easy transfer to MEL on the route 901 bus that runs every 15 minutes during weekdays and half hourly on weekends and public holidays.

Sat in the lounge waiting for the infamous QF67, just announced 30 min delay due to engineering requirements….

Edit: and now 10:30…..so glad I got the 6am out of MEL

QF67 on Saturday 12 October (A332 VH-EBR, the 0905 hours SYD-BLR) was airborne at 1044 so expected at gate arrival becomes 1638 hours, 58 minutes late.

Friday 11 October's QF103 from SYD to HNL arrived at 0946 hours, 56 late with A333 VH_QPG. The return working QF104 is the 1105 hours airborne on Friday at 1222 hours. Saturday 12 arrival at gate should be approximately 1926 hours, also as luck would have it 56 minutes behind the timetable.

A333 VH-OQB on 'the 93' (1155 hours very late morning MEL across and up to LAX) is forecast to push back at 1315 hours. It had arrived in MEL this morning as QF94 at 0702 hours, only 176 late.

QF63 (12 October 1030 hours SYD across to JNB) took off at 1139 hours with A388 VH-OQG. Arrival should be at 1650 hours, 40 minutes behind schedule.

B789 VH-ZNL on the delayed QF7 from SYD to DFW arrived on Friday 11 October at 2009 hours, 244 minutes late. It has then formed QF22, the 1940 hours DFW to MEL airborne at 2247. Sunday 13 arrival at gate should be 0744 hours, 139 minutes behind schedule.

Sister -ZND was on yesterday's QF21 from MEL that arrived at its DFW gate at 1326 hours, 36 minutes behind the timetable. It has become QF8 to SYD, the 2115 hours that was up up and away at 2317, with gate arrival likely on Sunday 13 in Sydney at 0740 hours, 85 minutes tardy.

Saturday 12's QF93 (1155 hours MEL-LAX) pointed skywards at 1337 with same day arrival likely at 0911, 61 minutes late.

On Sunday 13 October, A333 VH_QPA arrived in HND (ex SYD) as QF25 only nine minutes late at 0604 hours, but its return down to SYD as QF60 is delayed from the scheduled 0835 hours departure to a forecast 1030. This should mean a post-2200 hours arrival late this evening.

QF3, the midmorning 1010 hours SYD-AKL-JFK is altered to depart at 1150 hours. Its AKL pushback is optimistically forecast as 1815 instead of 1705 hours.

QF10 on Saturday 12 arrived PER at 1755 hours, 375 minutes late with B789 VH-ZNI. It turned around, taking off on the 1830 hours PER-LHR QF9 at 1949 hours. Sunday 13 arrival at gate should be at about 0610 hours, 65 minutes behind schedule.

The Sunday 13 arriving QF10 has sister aircraft ZNH with a 32 minute late arrival at 1212 likely.

Looks like it is awaiting an aircraft to come from MEL as QF6034.

QF6034 was meant to be the 0645 hours empty working from MEL to SYD. B789 VH-ZNL took off at 0959 hours with gate arrival in the mainland Harbour city expected at 1109 hours, 179 minutes late.

The plane had arrived in MEL at 0742 hours, 137 minutes late, as QF22 from distant Dallas.

There is no way QF3, the 1010 hours SYD-AKL-JFK, will be off blocks at 1150 hours: 1310 or later is more likely.

Sunday 13's QF4 from JFK to AKL and SYD is highly likely to be delayed all the way.

Still on Sunday 13 October, QF3 surprised by departing SYD at 1239 149 minutes late), a snappy turnaround from the aircraft B789 VH-ZNL's QF6034 positioning flight. AKL arrival should be about 1705 hours, two hours late.

Looks like QF93 is delayed awaiting inbound QF6033 from SYD.

This empty working was operated by B789 VH-ZND that took off from SYD at 1021 this morning, arriving MEL at gate at 1139 hours, 134 minutes late on its proposed timetable.

UPDATE: QF93 was airborne at 1321 with same day, at gate arrival in LAX estimated as 0907 hours, 57 minutes tardy.
